Duessler, Dramm punch tickets to state at Marathon sectional

Two of the Sevastopol track team's most consistent performers all season long have one more meet left after placing in the top four in their respective events at the Marathon sectional meet.

Kylie Duessler was the team's highest placeholder, taking third in the 200m with a season-best time. Bea Dramm qualified for the state meet next weekend in the 1600m and 3200m. Her 1600m was a personal best.

Sevastopol softball sees season end in Almond-Bancroft

All 15 runs were scored in the first three innings, but it was Sevastopol that came up empty at the end of their 11-4 loss to Almond-Bancroft in the WIAA Regional Championship Thursday afternoon.

Addison Schauske took the brunt of the damage after pitching so well in the semifinal, going just one inning while giving up seven earned runs and six walks. Messina Meddaugh and Aaliyah Newby were among those that took advantage of uncharacteristic pitching performance as the pair combine to knock in seven runs on five hits.

Schauske's positional counterpart Riya Ceballos kept things under control for Almond-Bancroft, allowing four runs while striking out six across seven innings of work. Bailey Rikkola went 2-3 with a stolen base while sister Naomi knocked in two runs on an RBI double. Schauske got some payback as her dinger helper narrow the deficit.

Pioneers baseball opens tournament play at Iola-Scandinavia

The #12 Sevastopol Pioneers make their way to Iola-Scandinavia for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

The Pioneers' two-game sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas Mother's Day weekend represents the team's only wins this season, losing the other 19 matchups. They ended the year on a five-game losing streak during which they only scored eight runs, six of which came in a 7-6 loss to Algoma in the regular season finale.

Following an eight-game losing skid, Iola-Scandinavia won two of their final three games of the regular season. They beat Wild Rose 11-3 in the season finale just one day after a 11-1 thrashing by Auburndale the day before.

United soccer battles Red Devils Thursday

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer team will welcome Green Bay East for a non-conference match-up in Institute Thursday afternoon.

The United played Wrightstown to a 1-1 draw earlier in the week, Eve Andreae scored for the United with Sam Herrell picking up the assist. Emma Steuber held off the Tigers' attack for much of the night, making 15 saves.

The Red Devils have struggled to get back into the win column since wins against Xavier and Peshtigo on May 2nd and 4th respectively. They have since gone 0-3-2 during the stretch that has only seen one goal scored, including a 0-0 draw against Seymour on Monday.

The first touch is set for 5 p.m.

Division 3 schools will head to Valders for their meet with the first events starting at 4 p.m. Algoma, Gibraltar, and Sevastopol will be joined by Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, Hilbert, Manitowoc Lutheran, Mishicot, Oneida Nation, Roncalli, and Reedsville for the regional meet. The top finishers will head to Marathon High School on Thursday.

Pioneers baseball falls to Crusaders; host Wolves Friday

The Sevastopol Pioneers will have one last chance to grab a win in Packerland Conference play when they host the Algoma Wolves for a doubleheader Friday.

Sevastopol is fresh off of a close loss to the Crusaders of Sheboygan Lutheran on Thursday night by a score of 3-1, dropping their record to 2-17 overall and 0-14 in Packerland play. The Pioneers will look to avoid going a full season without a conference win, as they took home two conference wins last season.

Algoma is coming off a win against Hilbert/Stockbridge 10-0, as they have turned their season around in the second half of the year. The Wolves are 5-2 in their last seven games to run their overall record to 9-8 and their Packerland record to 6-8 in fifth of the conference. The Wolves grabbed a fourth seed in the WIAA playoffs, and will take on St. Thomas Aquinas.

First pitch from Sevastopol is set for 4:30 p.m.

Sevastopol baseball heads south for Sheboygan Lutheran

The Sevastopol Pioneers will play some non-conference baseball on Thursday when they travel south to take on the Sheboygan Lutheran Crusaders.

Sevastopol was swept in a doubleheader against Oconto on Monday, and was not able to continue the momentum they had from a winning weekend where they took down St. Thomas Aquinas 11-0 and 13-10 for their first wins of the season. The Pioneers had been 0-14 leading up to those games, and will look to add another non-conference win to their resume against the Crusaders.

Sheboygan Lutheran is 5-9 overall and 4-8 in the Big East Conference. The Crusaders have had a tough week so far, losing 20-0 to the Indians of Mishicot on Monday, and falling to St. Mary’s Catholic 3-0. Lutheran is on a four game losing streak entering the game with Sevastopol, and the Pioneers will look to make it five.

First pitch from Sheboygan is set for 4:30 p.m.

Pioneers softball battles Blue Devils to split

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team came back to win game two 13-7 after dropping their first game against the Oconto Blue Devils Monday evening 8-5.

In game one, the Pioneers limited the Blue Devils to six hits, but three of them left the yard in the loss. Kayla Ranly, Naomi Rikkola, Alaina Schopf, and Claire Haberli all had two hits with Ranly and Rikkola combining to swipe five bags. Libby Ash took the loss, accumulating two walks and three strikeouts in her night's work.

In game two, the Pioneers pounded out 18 hits en route to their six-run victory. Addison Schauske got the win from the circle, allowing five hits and 10 walks, but limited the Blue Devils to just four runs thanks in part to six strikeouts. Schauske also did damage from the plate, going 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Ash went 2-2 with four stolen bases while Johanna Andreae, Jolene Luedtke, and Bailey Rikkola each had three hits. Luedtke set the tone offensively with three RBI.

United soccer faces Clintonville Tuesday

Sevastopol/Gibraltar girls soccer is coming off of a win in its last time out against NEW Lutheran, and will look to win another when they welcome in the Clintonville Truckers Tuesday.

United soccer is looking to stack up some wins towards the end of the season, and making it back to back with a win against Clintonville would make momentum for Sevastopol/Gibraltar. United just needed one goal to take down the Blazers, and are now 2-7-1 overall on the season that continues to head towards the playoffs.

Clintonville is 0-12 overall in play so far this season, with exactly half of their losses coming in NEC play, where they sit in last place at 0-6. Sturgeon Bay and NEW Lutheran have both taken down Clintonville earlier in the season, as the Truckers fell 9-1 to Sturgeon Bay and 7-1 to the Blazers. They have been outscored 47-1 in conference play, with the one goal coming recently against Waupaca.

The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.

Pioneers play out the string against Oconto

Before they take on NEW Lutheran in the WIAA Tournament, the Sevastopol Pioneers will battle against Oconto Monday in Institute.

It was a tale of two games for the Sevastopol softball team as they lost 5-2 in game one but captured game two 15-8 against the Algoma Wolves. In game one, Libby Ash was the hard-luck pitcher with no walks or earned runs while scattering six hits with five strikeouts. The team was uncharacteristic with the Pioneers committing five defensive errors and collecting three hits. Johanna Andreae and Alaina Schopf each had a hit and an RBI in the loss. Things were a little closer to normal in the second game, though Addison Schauske had to weather 11 walks and five hits to go along with five strikeouts. Johanna Andreae came through offensively, going 4-5  with three runs scored and five RBI. Jolene Luedtke and Addison Schauske each scored five runs while Alaina Schopf punched in two RBI.

The Blue Devils made quick work of Gibraltar last week in their 19-0 and 15-0 victories, putting them above .500 in the Packerland Conference with an 8-6 mark as they have won six of their last nine games.

First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.

Pioneers baseball aim to bring weekend success home against Oconto

The Sevastopol Pioneers hope Saturday's success carries over into Monday's games against Oconto in Institute.

The Pioneers won their games against St. Thomas Aquinas by scores of 11-0 and 13-10, their first two victories of the season. Chase Haberli was key in both victories, going 2-3 with two RBI in the first game before picking up the win in the second game, throwing 3 scoreless innings that allowed us to take and hold the lead in this back-and-forth affair.

The Blue Devils are 9-5 on the year and 6-4 in the conference, with those four losses coming against the conference-leading Kewaunee Storm and Southern Door Eagles. They swept a doubleheader from Algoma over the weekend, winning those games 5-2 and 14-2.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Sevastopol softball splits with Algoma

It was a tale of two games for the Sevastopol softball team as they lost 5-2 in game one but captured game two 15-8 against the Algoma Wolves.

In game one, Libby Ash was the hard-luck pitcher with no walks or earned runs while scattering six hits with five strikeouts. The team was uncharacteristic with the Pioneers committing five defensive errors and collecting three hits. Johanna Andreae and Alaina Schopf each had a hit and an RBI in the loss. Ryley Zimmerman had two hits and Sierra Slaby went 1-2 with two RBI on her double in the victory for the Wolves.

Macie Zimmerman led the Wolves with two RBI while Amelia Robinson, Brooke Mattson, and Hannah Nell each garnered one. Nell took the loss for the Wolves, surrendering all 15 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits.

Sevastopol and Algoma softball compete in battle of top teams

One of the top seeds in the Division 4 WIAA State Tournament will travel to Institute to battle a likely #1 seed in the Division 5 tournament as Sevastopol hosts Algoma Friday afternoon.

The Wolves are coming off a two-game sweep of NEW Lutheran by scores of 6-0 and 13-2. In game one, Macie Zimmerman shut out the Blazers in the circle and went 2-4 with an RBI at the plate to lead the Wolves. Brooke Mattson matched her hit total with two RBI while Ryley Zimmerman, Sierra Slaby, and Nora Krause all knocked in a run of their own. In game two, Algoma just needed five innings to beat the Blazers 13-2 thanks to a three-run homer by Ryley Zimmerman and single RBIs from five other players in the rout. Hannah Nell took care of the rest from the circle, allowing two runs and three hits in five innings of work while striking out seven.

Ironically enough, the Blazers were also victims of a lopsided sweep at the hands of the Pioneers. Monday's rain in Green Bay forced the Packerland Conference to move the games from NEW Lutheran to Institute where the rain was kept at bay. Libby Ash kept the Blazers' batters from getting on base, throwing a no-hitter across five innings and six strikeouts in an 11-0 opening game win. Alaina Schopf led the way offensively, going 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. The afternoon's second game was almost as impressive with Addison Schauske allowing just one hit across four innings with four strikeouts. The Pioneers went on to win the game 15-0 in four innings with Kayla Ranly, Schauske, Alaina Schopf, and Claire Haberli getting one hit. Ranly earned three walks en route to scoring three runs while Haberli registered three RBI in the win.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Institute.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer hosts parents' night, NEW Lutheran Thursday

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer hopes to continue smiling if they can earn a second straight win on Thursday against NEW Lutheran.

The United's Zoe Armbruster registered a brace (two goals) in the team's 4-1 win over Green Bay West in their last game, their first victory in their last five matches. The team's last victory before their match against the Wildcats came against the Blazers on April 20th in a 1-0 road victory.

The Blazers have won three of their last four matches, following its 3-1 loss to Sturgeon Bay last week with a 6-0 shutout of Valders.

Thursday's game will begin at 6 p.m, with parents' night occurring at halftime and a meal featuring both teams and their families occurring afterwards.

Pioneer baseball in search of first win against Blazers

The Sevastopol Pioneers baseball team will look to grab their first win of the season when they take on NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.

Sevastopol enters the game against the Blazers at 0-12 overall on the season and 0-10 in Packerland play after being swept in a doubleheader against the Storm of Kewaunee and recently losing to Mishicot. The Pioneers took down NEW Lutheran three different times last season, twice in a doubleheader with scores of 13-3 and 3-1, but also in the WIAA Regional where Sevastopol won 7-2.

NEW Lutheran has also had a bit of struggle to their season so far, with a 3-11 overall record and a 1-11 record in the Packerland Conference. That one win came against Peshtigo early in the season by a score of 10-2, but the Blazers have lost eight straight games coming into play against the Pioneers.

First pitch from Green Bay is set for 4:00 p.m.

No gold no problem for Sevastopol track at Algoma Invite

The lack of champs does not take away from the strong slate of performances posted by the Sevastopol track team at Tuesday's Algoma Invitational.

For the girls, Bea Dramm (3200m), Kylie Duessler (200m), and Caitlyn Fellner (400m) all earned runner-up finishes while finishing with either a season or personal record.

The boys saw Ezra Linnan (pole vault and 1600m), Jarius Dadam (400m), and Atlee Manson (100m) end their days at the team's top performers with fifth place finishes in their respective events.

Sevastopol baseball makes trip to Mishicot

The Sevastopol Pioneers will kick off a busy week for Mishicot hosting Packerland teams on Tuesday.

The Pioneers enter the matchup 0-11 on the season and trying to close up a -95 run differential. They lost by at least 10 runs in their four games against Sturgeon Bay and Kewaunee.

The Indians snapped a two-game losing streak on Thursday with a 1-0 victory over Howards Grove. Since losing four in a row in the middle of April, the Indians split their following six games.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Pioneers softball snag home games, doubleheader sweep from Blazers

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team dismantled NEW Lutheran in a doubleheader sweep, thwarting Mother Nature's attempt to do the same to them.

Pioneers softball to battle Blazers redux

For the second time since Friday, the Sevastopol Pioneers softball team is at the very least scheduled to play against NEW Lutheran in Green Bay for a doubleheader.

The Pioneers took care of business when they traveled to Kewaunee last month, making it a week since Sevastopol played a game. Sitting at 11-4 overall and 7-3 in the Packerland Conference, Sevastopol is one game ahead of the Southern Door Eagles, who they split a doubleheader with earlier in the season.

NEW Lutheran has had a rough go of things so far this season, as they are losers of six of their last seven games. The Blazers are 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Packerland Conference, and have been outscored by 40 runs in those eight conference games. NEW Lutheran was blanked by Sevastopol in both games the two teams played last season, with the Pioneers winning 10-0 and 12-0.

First pitch from NEW Lutheran is set for 4:00 p.m.

Duessler leads big day for Sevastopol at Seymour

Kylie Duessler's win in the 200m was the only victory not among Sevastopol's track athletes but all of the local entries at Thursday's Seymour Invitational.

The stage for Duessler's win was set in motion by her impressive display in the 100m where she took third. The Pioneers girls had four other performances in the top three, including Bea Dramm's season best in the 1600m for a second place finish.

For the boys, a third-place finish for the 4x100m relay was the lone top-three performance. Atlee Manson, who was a part of the 4x100m relay, set a personal record in the 200m to take fifth. Nine other boys set personal records on the day.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer to battle Green Bay West

Sevastopol/Gibraltar had their match against Kewaunee canceled, but they will play at Green Bay West Friday for a 5 p.m. opening touch.

The United's offense has been kept in check all season long, scoring just four goal across nine games. Goalkeepers have posted clean sheets against the United in four of their last five games.

The Wildcats have fielded a JV team for the season, being held scoreless in all but one of their matches.

Sevastopol softball faces off with NEW Lutheran

The Sevastopol Pioneers have rebounded after a small mid season slide, and will look to continue that success when they take on the NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy Blazers Friday afternoon.

The Pioneers took care of business when they traveled to Kewaunee last Friday, making it a week since Sevastopol played a game.

Pioneer baseball looks for first win against Blazers

The Sevastopol Pioneers baseball team will look to grab their first win of the season when they take on NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

Sevastopol enters the game against the Blazers at 0-11 overall on the season and 0-10 in Packerland play after being swept in a doubleheader against the Storm of Kewaunee. The Pioneers took down NEW Lutheran three different times last season, twice in a doubleheader with scores of 13-3 and 3-1, but also in the WIAA Regional where Sevastopol won 7-2.

NEW Lutheran has also had a bit of struggle to their season so far, with a 3-9 overall record and a 1-9 record in the Packerland Conference. That one win came against Peshtigo early in the season by a score of 10-2, but the Blazers have lost six straight games coming into play against the Pioneers.

First pitch from Green Bay is set for 4:00 p.m.

Sevastopol softball hosts Oconto

The Sevastopol softball team continues its pursuit of Peshtigo in the Packerland Conference standings with a doubleheader against Oconto on Tuesday.

The Pioneers only needed the full seven innings in one of their two games, beating the Storm in both ends of the doubleheader. In the 7-2 win, Libby Ash was the star at the plate and on the mound. She went 2-3 with a run scored while she went the distance toeing the rubber, allowing six hits and striking three. In their 12-2 victory, Ash went all five innings while allowing four hits and no runs. Ash, Claire Haberli, Bailey Rikkola all had two RBI.

The Blue Devils sit one full game below the Pioneers thanks to playing two less conference matchups. They have won three straight games, including a two-game sweep of NEW Lutheran on Saturday.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Sevastopol softball travel west to Laona-Wabeno

If the weather allows, the Sevastopol softball team will hit the diamond on Monday to battle Laona-Wabeno.

The Pioneers have covered up a four-game losing skid with a four-game winning streak with sweeps of Sturgeon Bay and Kewaunee. Rikkola also recently learned that she will represent the school in the high school all-star game this summer.

The Rebels have answered their own four-game losing skid with a three-game winning streak. They topped Three Lakes/Phelps in their last game 7-5.

If Mother Nature allows, the Pioneers will play at Laona beginning at 5 p.m.
