Sevastopol takes turn hosting Packerland Golf Tour

The Orchards Golf Course in Egg Harbor will be the next stop on the Packerland Conference Golf Tour as they work through their season.

Sevastopol is the stop's host with Gibraltar, Kewaunee, NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy, Oconto, Peshtigo, Southern Door, and Sturgeon Bay also participating. The Clippers have dominated the team standings with Kewaunee's Evan Maccaux, Sturgeon Bay's Tre Wienke, and Southern Door's Finley LaVine all taking turns on the top of the leaderboard.

Tee time is set for 4 p.m.

Zephyrs run all over United soccer

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar United soccer team could not withstand St. Mary Catholic's offensive pressure on Saturday, losing 7-0.

The Zephyrs jumped out to a 5-0 first-half lead and only extended it further in the second half. Four Zephyrs players scored goals, including Audrey Wanless's hat-trick and Bitzy McCauley's brace.

Despite the high goal total, it could have been worse without the United's good goalkeeping, which stopped 19 of the 26 shots made by the Zephyrs.

Sevastopol track athletes take on Elite

The Sevastopol track team spent Friday taking on the area's best at the St. Norbert Elite Meet.

The Pioneers had three athletes finish in the top eight. For the boys, Jarius Dadam seventh in the triple jump. On the girls' side, Bea Dramm (8th, 3200m) and Caitlyn Fellner's personal record in the 400m led the way.

Pioneers baseball shut out by Blue Devils

The Sevastopol Pioneers baseball team couldn't scratch across a run in Oconto in their first two games against the Blue Devils, losing 5-0.

The Blue Devils jumped out in front of the Pioneers by two runs in the first inning, adding insurance runs in the third and fifth innings. The top of the order provided the offense for the Pioneers, with Chase Haberli and Tyler Grooters collecting two hits apiece. Haberli took the loss on the mound, giving up five runs (5 ER) across five innings while striking out six.

The game was delayed in the second inning.

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team throttled Oconto in two straight games on Friday, beating them 9-0 and 15-3.

In game one, the Pioneers scored at least one run in each of the first four innings before an exclamation point on the game with four runs in the sixth inning. Three Pioneers had multi-hit games, led by Addison Schauske's 3-3 day. Brynn Schartner knocked in four runs on two hits, including a double, and Libby Ash collected two RBI and a hit. Schauske struck out six in three innings, but it was Ash who won, as she scattered five hits across four shutout innings while striking out two.

In the second game, the Pioneers scored at least two runs in five innings, including four in the sixth and seventh innings. In addition to their 15 hits, the Pioneers took advantage of five Blue Devils errors. Schartner followed up her four RBI games with a five-RBI game with a home run. Naomi Rikkola went 3-4 with four RBI thanks to a triple and a home run. Kayla Ranly also went yard for the Pioneers, ending her day going 2-3 with two RBI. Schauske also drove in a pair and earned the circle win, allowing two runs on three hits.

Rankin leads Sevastopol at Door County Classic

The Sevastopol track team had hosting duties for this year's Door County Classic Track Meet, boasting one event champion along the way.

Cassie Rankin posted a new personal record of 29 feet 5 inches in the shot put to win the event. The 4x400m relay team of Danica Werkheiser, Kylee Duessler, Caitlyn Hasenjager, and Caitlyn Fellner was the only other event win for the Pioneers for the boys and the girls, though they did post a total of 11 top-3 performances to boost their point totals in the meet.

Sevastopol hosts Door County Classic Track Meet

The Sevastopol track team will take on the hosting duties for this year's Door County Classic when the first events begin at 4:30 p.m.

Sturgeon Bay, Southern Door, Gibraltar, and Sevastopol will all compete for the first time since last week's Packerland Conference Relays at Kewaunee. The Southern Door girls won their side of the meet while the Southern Door boys took third.  The Eagles boys won the 4x100m and 4x800m relays and the Eagles girls were led by Elise Jackson (100m and 300m hurdles) and the 4x200m relay. Results from that meet can be found here.

Sevastopol bats fly in doubleheader sweep of Sturgeon Bay

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team only played eight innings across two games on Thursday, but they were still able to score 30 runs on 26 hits in a pair of 15-0 wins over Sturgeon Bay on Thursday.

In game one, a six-run fifth-inning ended the contest after five innings. Addison Schauske only needed one run as she threw a perfect game with no hits or walks across five innings with seven strike outs. Eight players registered at least one hit led by Jolene Luedtke's 3-4 night. Schauske (4 RBI) and Naomi Rikkola (2 RBI) all had multiple RBI games as four other drove home runs.

Jolene Luedtke 3-4, 3 runs scored, double

Taylor Kochanski 1-2, 2 runs scored

Naomi Rikkola 1-3, 3 runs scored, 2 RBI

Kayla Ranly 1-2, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, double

Addison Schauske 1-4, double, 4 RBI

In game 2, the Pioneers batted around in the 1st and 3rd innings to end the game after three. The Pioneers were aided by four Clippers errors and another strong performance from the circle from Schauske, who allowed one hit across three innings while registered seven of the nine outs as strikeouts. An Annika Schoeneman single in the third inning with two outs was the lone bright spot offensively for the Clippers. Five Pioneers players had multi-hit games including three hits from Rikkola. Schauske and Kaylee Krishka each had three RBI while Taylor Kochanski drove in a pair in the win.

Jolene Luedtke 2-3, 2 runs scored, triple, double

Tomaszewski's PR lone Pioneer win at Peshtigo quad

Aaron Tomaszewski's new personal record represented Sevastopol's best finish at the Peshtigo Quad track meet on Tuesday.

The sophomore's time of 11:51 was the fastest in the meet and one of three top-three finishes for the boys' squad. As for the girls, runner-up finishes for Bea Dramm (800m), the 4x400m relay, and Danica Werkheiser (high jump) were the best registered for the Pioneers.

United draws against Peshtigo ahead of county grudge match

On Tuesday, the Sevastopol/Gibraltar girls' soccer team picked up a point in the Packerland Conference table with a 1-1 draw.

No other details from the match were provided.

The United will head to Sturgeon Bay for another Packerland Conference matchup on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

Pioneer girls softball no-hit by Mishicot

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team dropped a non-conference game to the Mishicot Indians of the Big East Conference.  The final score was 6-0 as the Pioneers could not manage a run or a hit against one of the states’ perennial top teams and pitcher Kiran Sanford, who struck out 15 batters.  Addison Schauske took the loss for the Pioneers, allowing nine hits while striking out four batters in seven innings.

The Pioneers are next scheduled to play a doubleheader at Sturgeon Bay against the Clippers on Saturday afternoon.

Pioneers baseball gets split against Bulldogs

The Sevastopol Pioneers baseball bounced back from 8-1 loss in their first game in Peshtigo to beat the Bulldogs in game two 4-3.

In game one, the Bulldogs built up an 8-0 lead before Drake Olson registered the lone RBI for the Pioneers. Olson took the loss, allowing seven of the eight runs (4 ER) while striking out four. Caleb Klimek proved to be a pest for the Bulldogs, driving in two runs on two hits.

In game two, the Pioneers used two runs in the first and third innings to hold off the Bulldogs. Chase Haberli and Gavin Jorns each had two hits and two RBI in the game. Haberli earned the win with 6 1/3 innings of five hit ball, allowing three runs (3 ER) while striking out six. The Pioneers secured the win in spectacular fashion with a Chase Haberli throw on a relay from Gavin Jorns on a play at the plate by Logan Schuh.

Pioneers softball swept in Peshtigo

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team came up just shy of salvaging one of their games in Peshtigo on Saturday. They lost both ends of their doubleheader, 9-6 and 5-4.

In game one, the Pioneers responded to an early 2-0 deficit with four runs in their half of the first inning thanks to knocks from Taylor Kochanski, Addison Schauske, and Adison Sawyer. The Bulldogs responded with three runs and an insurance run in the fifth inning to put the game away. The Pioneers put up single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings but came up short. Kochanski had four hits and RBI to lead the Pioneers, while Naomi Rikkola and Schauske each had three hits, combining to drive in three runs. Schauske took the loss from the circle, going the distance while allowing nine runs (5 ER) on nine hits.

In game two, the Pioneers led 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh before being shocked by the Bulldogs, who put up four runs in the final frame to capture it in walk-off fashion. Kayla Ranly went 2-3 with two RBI to pace the Pioneers, while Rikkola and Schauske drove in the other runs. Schauske and Brynn Schartner joined Ranly in having two hits. Schauske had seven strikeouts in game two but ran out of gas in the seventh, where she gave up four runs on four hits, including the game-winning run on a passed ball.

Red Devils down United

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer team could not overcome the Green Bay East defense Saturday morning, losing 2-0 at City Stadium in Green Bay.

The United held off the Red Devils' attack for most of the first half before succumbing to the home team in the latter stages of the game.

United battles Red Devils on City Stadium pitch Saturday

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar girls' soccer team will visit historic City Stadium on Saturday morning to face the Green Bay East Red Devils.

The United earned its first win of the season on Monday, winning 2-0 over Little Chute. The United scored their first goal on a corner kick when Izzy Andrae headed the ball past the Mustangs goalkeeper to make 1-0 with 32 minutes left in the second half. With 25 minutes remaining, the United doubled their lead when Kaitlyn Conner dribbled past multiple defenders and tucked it underneath a diving goalkeeper.

The Red Devils secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over New London, improving to 1-1-0 on the year. CJ Ross scored a goal and an assist, while Sherlyn Grijalva scored the other goal to lead the Red Devils to victory.

Saturday's fixture begins at 10 a.m.

Pioneers baseball can't dig out of early hole vs. Lancers

The Sevastopol Pioneers baseball team found themselves down early and could not come back in a 9-2 loss to Manitowoc Lutheran on Thursday.

The Pioneers were down 5-0 before Reid Kacmarynski singled home a run to make 5-1. A four-run fifth inning clinched the decision for the Lancers, who would later give one of those runs back when Oliver Matthews was credited with an RBI thanks to a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning. Frankie DeYoung went 2-4 on the day to pace all Pioneers' batters. Logan Schuh provided some stability after the Pioneers' first two pitchers combined to retire just one batter while allowing four runs. Schuh went 3/2/3 innings, allowing five runs (3 ER) and four hits while striking out two.

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they face Peshtigo.

Second half goals push United past Mustangs

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar girls' soccer team earned its first win of the season on Monday, winning 2-0 over Little Chute.

Pioneers softball picks up victory vs. Assumption

The Sevastopol softball team picked up their first win of the season on Monday, topping Assumption 6-2.

Things were snug between the Pioneers and the Royals early on, with the game tied at two through six innings. A four-run rally sparked by Jolene Luedtke's bases-clearing double and capped off by her stealing home led the Pioneers to victory.

Luedtke went 2-3 with two doubles and four RBI, while Alaina Schopf - 1-4 with a triple. Naomi Rikkola was a pest on the basepaths, scoring two runs and stealing three bases. Addison Schauske held down the Royals, allowing four hits, three runs (2 ER), and ten strikeouts in her complete-game outing.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar scheduled to play at Manitowoc Lincoln Thursday

If field conditions allow, you may see the Sevastopol/Gibraltar United take the pitch on Thursday for their first match of the season against Manitowoc Lincoln on the road.

The United have not played since June 1st, when they lost to St. Mary Catholic 3-0 in the girls' soccer tournament. They finished their campaign 3-13-2 while splitting their conference matches.

While the United had their Tuesday match against Marinette postponed, the Ships played against Sheboygan Falls, losing the match 1-0. Sarah Bolchen is the team's lone All-Conference contributor from last season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
