Pioneers welcome area teams for cross country meet

The Sevastopol Pioneers pull hosting duties for Thursday's cross-country meet when Algoma, Gibraltar, Luxemburg-Casco, and Sturgeon Bay also come to run the hills of Cherry Hills Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay.

The first races begin at 3:45 p.m.

LAST ACTION

A small but mighty Algoma cross country team traveled to Mishicot on Thursday for the Jim Bremser Invitational. Brayden Brumm was the lone Wolf on the boys' side, finishing in 22:52 to take 171st. For the girls, Ellie Reif ran a time of 22:43 to lead the girls.

The Gibraltar cross country team had a strong showing at Thursday's Jim Bremser Invitational in Mishicot. For the girls, Olivia Pelkey ran a personal best time of 25:55 to lead the Vikings with a 77th-place finish. On the boys' side, Graham De Voe ran a time of 19:26 to take 21st overall while two of his teammates ran a season-best time.

It was another race and another win for Luxemburg-Casco's Ezra Treml and Claire DuChateau on Thursday, this time at the Jim Bremser Invitational in Mishicot. Treml covered the 5K course in 16:40 to win the race by 16 seconds, beating out Kiel's Austin Helms, West De Pere's Zachary Natzke, and Appleton West's Kegan Phalin. Marcus Doell and Brayden Raydart cracked the Top 25 to help lead the Spartans to a team win. DuChateau had a 30-second margin of victory to win the girls' race with a time of 19:03, with Peshtigo's Berkeley Chaltry, Notre Dame's Anna Miller, and Bay Port's Eloise Holman trailing her. Gretta Annoye ran a time of 21:50 to help the Spartans to a 3rd-place finish behind Bay Port and Notre Dame.

Breiah Newton took on bigger schools as Sevastopol's lone varsity runner in Saturday's Len Nikolai Invite. Newton ran a time of 21:22 to come in the Top 50 overall for the Pioneers. Other runners competed in the junior varsity races, with Margaret Thomas running a personal best of 24:31 to lead the girls squad while Landon Sitte took 66th with a 5K time of 20:07.

The Sturgeon Bay cross country team competed in the Jim Bremser Memorial race in Mishicot on Thursday night. The Clippers competed along with 39 other schools racing through woods and around the school grounds.  This high-energy race is a favorite for our team with the chance to compete against a large number of teams and win ribbons and medals.  Freshman Abigail Matson came in 36th with a time of 23:33, and Penny Kiedrowski came in 37th with a time of 23:34.
