Sevastopol travels to Gibraltar for make-up game

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team will add another chapter in their cross-county rivalry with Gibraltar in a make-up game in Fish Creek at 7:30 p.m. 

 

The Pioneers enter this contest having lost three of their last five games. In four of those games, the Pioneers have put up less than 40 points, failing to meet their season average of 48 points per game. They were able to get a much-needed win over Southern Door this past Friday, thanks to 19 points from Bailey Rikkola and 15 points from Libby Ash. 

 

The Vikings are still looking for their first win of the season, with their latest loss coming against N.E.W Lutheran. 

 

Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

Pioneers fall to Florence in Saturday non-conference matchup

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team traveled to Florence on Saturday for a non-conference matchup. 

 

Florence was able to answer anything Sevastopol tried in both halves as they were able to walk away with a 85-48 win over the Pioneers. The loss for the Pioneers marks their 12th straight and moves them to 3-13 on the season. 

 

The Pioneers will next be in action on Friday as they get set to host Southern Door.

Pioneers top Eagles in Packerland play on Friday

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team traveled to Southern Door on Friday night to take on the Eagles in conference play. 

 

Sevastopol was able to find their momentum again after losing two games in a row and walk away with a road victory over the Eagles by a score of 56-32. 

 

The Pioneers will travel to Gibraltar on Monday to take on the Vikings in another conference matchup.

Pioneers hit the road to face Bobcats

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team will travel to Florence on Saturday to take on the Bobcats in a non-conference game. 

 

After starting the season 3-1, the Pioneers desperately need a win as they have lost their last seven consecutive matchups. Saturday is the Pioneers final non-conference game and a win would be a huge momentum builder as they look to finish their season strong against conference opponents. Sevastopol is led by Jack de Young who is averaging 15 points per contest. 

 

Florence enters the game with a record of 10-3, and is led by Evan Johnson, who is one of four players averaging double figures with 15 points per game.

Pioneers set to face Eagles on the road

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team will travel to Southern Door on Friday night to take on the Eagles in a Packerland Conference matchup. 

 

The Pioneers have lost back-to-back games for the first time all season, and are looking to get back to their winning ways with a win over a conference opponent in the Southern Door Eagles. The Pioneers are led by Bailey and Naomi Rikkola who are averaging 14 and 11 points per game respectively. 

 

The Eagles also come into this game having lost back-to-back matchups and are looking to turn their momentum around with a win over the Pioneers. The Eagles are being led by Kendra Shimon who is averaging 11 points per game.

Pioneers fall big to Peshtigo

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team traveled to Peshtigo on Tuesday night to take on the Bulldogs in Packerland conference play. 

 

The Bulldogs controlled the pace from the beginning and propelled themselves to a 42 point victory, winning by a final score of 75-33. The loss marks the 11th straight for the Pioneers. 

 

The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday as they will travel to take on Florence in non conference action.

Pioneers hoping to knock off Bulldogs

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team will travel to Peshtigo on Tuesday night to face the Bulldogs in a high stakes Packerland game for the Bulldogs. 

 

The Pioneers have lost their last 10 games in a row, but are hoping to play spoiler to Peshtigo as they are currently tied for the conference lead. The Pioneers are currently being led by Jack de Young who is averaging 16 points per game, followed by Manav Jandu and Carter Bieri who are averaging 8 a piece. 

 

The Bulldogs are led by Landon Lemke and Kaine Fort who are averaging 14 and 11 points per game respectively. 

 

Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. 

Pioneers drop back to back games

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team hosted the Two Rivers Purple Raiders last night in non conference action and were unable to escape with a victory. 

 

Two Rivers was able to match any momentum that the Pioneers were able to form and it helped them answer Sevastopol on the offensive end. The Purple Raiders earned a 5 point win on the road by a score of 39-34. Kenzie Graff led the Raiders with 17 points to lead them to a win. 

 

The Pioneers will look to get back in the win column on Friday as they travel to take on Southern Door.

Pioneers host Purple Raiders in non conference battle

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team is set to host Two Rivers in non conference play on Monday night. 

 

The Pioneers are coming off of their third loss this season and are looking to bounce back with a win over Two Rivers before heading back into Packerland Conference play. Sevastopol is led by Bailey and Naomi Rikkola who are averaging 15 and 12 points per game respectively. 

 

Two Rivers comes in with a record of 10-8 and is led by Allyson Kakes and Kenzie Graff who are averaging 15 and 13 points per game respectively.

Pioneers fall to Blue Devils, losing streak hits double digits

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team traveled to Oconto on Friday night to take on the Blue Devils in a conference matchup. 

 

The Pioneers had a chance to shake up the conference standings with a win, but unfortunately the Blue Devils came out on a mission and walked away with a 94-47 win. The win keeps Oconto in 4th place in the conference standings, and with the loss Sevastopol has lost their 10th straight game and are still looking for that first conference win. 

 

The Pioneers will have a chance to snap the losing streak and get that first conference win as they travel to Peshtigo to face the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

Pioneers look to get back in the win column vs. Blue Devils

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team will try and dodge it’s tenth straight loss on Friday as they travel to Oconto. 

 

The Pioneers are coming off of a 31 point loss against the N.E.W Lutheran Blazers on Tuesday night and are looking to turn things around as they have lost nine straight games. The Pioneers have been without leading scorer and rebounder Jack De Young for the last two games and are hopeful to have him return to the lineup in the near future. The second leading scorer behind De Young is Carter Bieri who is averaging 8 points per game. 

 

Oconto is led by Kadin Baxter who is one of four Blue Devils averaging double figures with 16 points per game.

Pioneers fall to Bulldogs in OT

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team traveled to Peshtigo on Thursday night to take on the Bulldogs in conference play. 

 

It was a tight game throughout as both teams would force the game to go to overtime to determine a winner. In the end Peshtigo was able to escape with a 5 point victory by a score of 39-34. 

 

The loss was just the third of the season for the Pioneers who are currently sitting in 4th place in the conference standings. Sevastopol will travel to Two Rivers on Monday to face the Purple Raiders in non conference play.

Pioneers look to jump Peshtigo in Packerland standings with win

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team will host Peshtigo High School in a Packerland Conference matchup on Thursday night. 

 

The Pioneers are coming off of a 14 point victory over Suring in their last matchup. Sevastopol comes into this game with a 5-2 conference record, while Peshtigo is 6-2 in conference meaning if the Pioneers could squeeze out a win, they would move into third place above Peshtigo in the Packerland standings by a half game. The Pioneers are led by Bailey and Naomi Rikkola who are averaging 15 and 12 points per game respectively.

Pioneers lose ninth straight to Blazers

The Sevastopol Pioneers hosted the N.E.W Lutheran Blazers in a Packerland Conference matchup on Tuesday night. 

 

Sevastopol got off to a slow start and never found their groove, not allowing for a comeback against the Blazers who would take the 31 point victory by a score of 73-42. The Pioneers have now lost nine straight games and find themselves sitting in last place in the Packerland Conference having not won a game within the conference schedule this year. 

 

N.E.W moved to a perfect 7-0 in conference with the win. 

 

The Pioneers will try and turn their luck around against Oconto on Friday.

 

Pioneers get back in the win column vs. Suring

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team got back to their winning ways on Monday night as they were able to beat Surfing in non conference play by a score of 38-24. 

 

The win for the Pioneers moved them to 12-2 on the year overall, and 5-2 in Packerland Conference play. They are currently sitting in fourth place in the conference standings behind Oconto, Kewaunee, and Peshtigo. 

 

Sevastopol will have a couple of days off and then return to action on Thursday January 20th as they will host the Peshtigo Bulldogs with tip set for 7:30 p.m.

Pioneers look to snap an eight game losing skid vs. Blazers

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team will host the N.E.W Lutheran/Prov. Academy Blazers on Tuesday night in Packerland Conference play. 

 

The Pioneers have lost 8 straight coming into this matchup, with their latest loss coming against Reedsville before having their game with Kewaunee postponed. With a win over N.E.W, Sevastopol would also be picking up their first conference win of the season. The Pioneers are led by Jack De Young who is averaging 17 points per game to go along with 10 rebounds per game, and Manav Jandu who is averaging 9 points per game. 

 

N.E.W comes in with a record of 11-1 and have won their last 7 matchups in a row. The Blazers are being led by Tristian Lynch who is averaging 20 points per game, while Lucas Dhein and Elijah Meerstein are averaging 13 points per game.

Pioneers look to get back to winning ways vs. Suring

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team is looking to get back in the win column as they host the Suring Eagles in nonconference play on Monday night. 

 

The Pioneers are coming off their second loss of the season, losing to Oconto 38-35 on Saturday night. After the Pioneers first loss of the season, they went on to win eight in a row. Sevastopol will rely on their balanced scoring attack, led by Bailey and Naomi Rikkola who are averaging 14 and 13 points respectively, to get back to winning form. 

 

As for Suring, they were able to snap a seven game losing streak their last time out, beating Wausaukee 47-25. The Eagles are led by Christene Sleeter who is averaging 16 points per game.

Pioneers unable to win ninth straight

The Sevastopol girls’ basketball team was unable to win their ninth straight game on Saturday, losing to the Oconto Blue Devils for just their second loss of the season. 

 

Both teams came out ready to play defense, as the score at the halftime break was just 18-17 with Sevastopol leading by one. Oconto would then make the adjustments in the second half and outscore the Pioneers in the second half to end up winning by a final score of 38-35. 

 

The Pioneers will next be in action on Monday night as they host Suring with tip set for 7:30 p.m. 

Pioneers going for 9th straight win

The Sevastopol Pioneer girls’ basketball team is looking to win their 9th straight game on Saturday as they host the Oconto Blue Devils. 

 

The Pioneers are 11-1 on the season with that one loss coming against Peshtigo in the early part of the season. Since then, they have won 8 straight with 5 of those wins coming against Packerland Conference opponents. Sevastopol is being led by Bailey and Naomi Rikkola who are averaging 14 and 13 points per game respectively. Both are also leading the team in rebounds, and Bailey Rikkola leads the team in assists. 

 

The Blue Devils are a perfect 13-0 this year and are looking to stay unbeaten on Saturday night. Oconto is led by Lianna Baxter who is averaging 18 points per game, and Addisyn Viestenz who is averaging 11 points per game.

Sevastopol boys travel to Reedsville

The Sevastopol boys basketball team will try to find the win column in Reedsville Tuesday evening.

 

Sevastopol was without leading scorer and rebounder Jack De Young but managed to put up 23 points in the first half. The Pioneers would tighten up the defense coming out of the halftime break and hold Gibraltar to only 26 second-half points, but the gap was too big for the Pioneers to close and the Vikings ended up winning 92-44. Frankie Ash led the Pioneers with 16 points in the loss. Reedsville is a perfect 10-0 on the season, winning its last game 61-50 over Sheboygan Christian. Brennan Dvorachek leads his team in all offensive categories, averaging over 17 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists a game.

Sevastopol girls look to keep streak going against NEW Lutheran

A seven-game winning streak is on the line when Sevastopol travels to Green Bay to play NEW Lutheran in girls' basketball Tuesday night. 

 

No win during that streak was bigger than Friday's win against Kewaunee, a 53-48 decision that was a program first since the Pioneers last beat the Storm in 2007. They went on to squeak past Marinette the next afternoon 44-41. The Blazers are coming off a 67-36 loss to Peshtigo.


Tip is earlier than usual Tuesday with the teams meeting at 6:00 p.m. 

Hi ho silver for SBS wrestling at Manawa

Two wrestlers from Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol's wrestling brought home silver medals from Saturday's Manawa Invitational.

 

Ben Roman (285) and Zak Wrobel (182) captured silver at the Manawa Invitational while the team took ninth overall with 45 points scored.

Pioneers fall to Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team hosted the Gibraltar Vikings in a Packerland Conference matchup on Saturday January 8th. 

 

The Vikings got out to a hot start scoring the first 6 points of the game off of defensive steals. The Viking offense would not slow down from there, they would end up posting 66 points in the first half including a dunk from senior guard Sam Lindenberg who scored a game high 31 points and took a 43 point lead into the halftime break. 

 

Sevastopol was without leading scorer and rebounder Jack De Young but managed to put up 23 points in the first half. The Pioneers would tighten up the defense coming out of the halftime break and hold Gibraltar to only 26 second half points, but the gap was too big for the Pioneers to close and the Vikings ended up winning 92-44

 

Sevastopol will also play on Tuesday as they travel to take on Reedsville.

 

Pioneers host Marines in Saturday non conference game

The Sevastopol Pioneer girls’ basketball team will host Marinette on Saturday January 8th. The Pioneers are coming off of an overtime win against Kewaunee on Friday night and are looking to stay hot against Marinette on Saturday. Naomi and Bailey Rikkola have been providing Sevastopol with a big offensive spark this year as they are averaging 14 and 13 points per game respectively. Bailey Rikkola also leads the team in rebounds on the season. 

 

Tip is set for 3:00 p.m. from Sevastopol High School.

Pioneers host Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team will host Gibraltar in Packerland Conference play on 105.1 The GOAT. 

 

The Vikings come into this game losing a close one to Peshtigo on Tuesday. Gibraltar will be looking to get their first conference win on Saturday against the Pioneers. The Vikings are led by senior Sam Lindenberg who is averaging 23 points per game. 

 

As for Sevastopol, they are looking to turn the momentum in their favor after losing six consecutive games. The Pioneers are led offensively by Jack De Young who is averaging 17 points per contest.

Pioneers fall to Wolves in Packerland play

The Sevastopol boys’ basketball team faced off against the Algoma Wolves in a conference matchup on Tuesday night. 

 

The Wolves were able to hold Sevastopol to 23 points in both the first and second half, while they scored 34 in the first half and 37 in the second half to secure the win. The Wolves got a big boost offensively from Carter Zimmerman who posted 31 points while Carson Lischka added 10. 

 

As for the Pioneers, Jack De Young scored 22 of the 46 Pioneer points with the next highest scorer being Tommy Giblin with 7. 

 

The Sevastopol Pioneers will next be in action on Saturday January 8th as they will host Gibraltar in a game that will be broadcast on 105.1 The GOAT.

Pioneers win 5th straight vs. Clippers

The Sevastopol girls basketball team hosted Sturgeon Bay on Friday December 31st in Packerland Conference play. 

 

The Pioneers held Sturgeon Bay to just 8 points in the first half and never looked back, winning the game by a score of 69-23. The Pioneers were led by Bailey Rikkola who scored 16 points, and had two other players in double figures with Naomi Rikkola scoring 11, and Kayla Ranly adding 10. 

 

The loss marked the sixth straight loss for the Clippers. 

 

Sevastopol will be back in action on Monday January 3rd as they travel to Gibraltar to take on the Vikings.
