Sevastopol High School Archives for 2019-07

Eight-man football schedules close to being finalized

The defense of a state championship and an inaugural season highlight the 2019 slate for area eight-man football teams.

Sevastopol will begin their defense of the first-ever eight-man football state championship on the road at Suring, which joined eight-man football last year. Algoma begins its inaugural eight-man football season at home against the newly-formed co-op squad of Oneida/NEW Lutheran. Gibraltar will revisit happy memories from last year's run to basketball sectionals with a trip to Florence.

Local games of note, Algoma will travel August 29th to Sevastopol and play host on October 4th vs Gibraltar while the peninsula showdown between the Pioneers and the Vikings is scheduled for October 11th in Fish Creek.

Sevastopol players get one last crack at high school football

Three Sevastopol Pioneers football players cracked the scorebook Saturday in the storm shortened Wisconsin Football Coaches Association eigh man All-Star game.

Sevastopol's Jeremy Jorns, Nathan Stenzel, and Max Krohn cracked the scorebook on the defensive side of the ball, each registering at least one tackle.

The three-game WFCA All Star Weekend raised over $370,000 for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, including $15,015 by Door County athletes.

Final week to donate to local WFCA game participants

You have a week to still donate money to support seven area athletes in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Charity All-Star game on Saturday.

The annual set of games puts the best high school seniors on the field one last time before their collegiate careers begin or put away the helmet and shoulder pads for a final time. Players raise money to participate in the game with all funds collected going to support Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

Sevastopol's Jeremy Jorns, Max Krohn, Jaden Schartner-Sawyer, and Nathan Stenzel along with Gibraltar's Griffin and Trevor Reinhardt will play in the 8-man game at 10 a.m. Southern Door's Derik LeCaptain plays in the small-school game at 1:30 p.m. It will be the first of two all-star games for Trevor Reinhardt, who was also selected to play in the STRIPES Baseball All-Star game on August 11th at Miller Park.

You can click on the individual player to support their efforts. Door County athletes have already raised $14,865 for the game.
