The Sevastopol cross country teams tested themselves against some of the state’s top programs Friday at the Manitowoc Len Nikoli Invitational, with freshman Breiah Newton leading the charge for the Pioneers.
Newton continued her impressive debut season, placing 26th overall in 20:37.9 in the girls varsity 5,000-meter race. Senior Sienna Cain (94th, 23:28.4), junior Shylee Asher (105th, 24:02.2) and junior Izzy Andreae (129th, 25:12.8) rounded out Sevastopol’s finishers. With only four runners competing, the Pioneers did not register a team score, but their individual efforts stood out in a deep field featuring more than a dozen large-school programs.
On the boys side, senior Aaron Tomaszewski paced Sevastopol with a strong run of 18:24.2, good for 58th place in the varsity race.
Wauwatosa East captured the girls team title and Manitowoc Lincoln’s Natalie Portmann won the individual crown in 19:18.6. On the boys side, Stevens Point dominated the team standings, while Brookfield Central’s Owen England ran away with the individual win in 15:55.3.
