Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer looks to even series with Sturgeon Bay

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar girls soccer team will take the field once again against the Sturgeon Bay Clippers on Thursday.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar is coming off a 3-0 shutout loss to Freedom. The Irish had three different girls score against Sevastopol/Gibraltar, as Abby Bradael, Abby Drontle and Claire Murphy were the respective scorers. The last time these two teams met, Sturgeon Bay got the best of the United, winning 2-1.

Sturgeon Bay took a tough loss the last time they were in competition, losing 8-0 to Kiel last Friday. The Clippers are 2-3 so far this season with wins over the United as mentioned earlier, and Clintonville 9-1. Sturgeon Bay will look to sweep the series with Sevastopol/Gibraltar and get back to .500 on Thursday.

The match is set for 5:00 p.m. in Sevastopol.

Pioneer girls' softball sweep two from Sturgeon Bay

The Sevastopol Pioneers rolled on Tuesday with two wins against the Sturgeon Bay Clippers.  Playing on the road, the Pioneers claimed a doubleheader from the Clippers with scores of 3-1 in the opener and 9-1 in the nightcap.

Pioneer pitcher Libby Ash went the distance to pick up the win allowing only four hits while striking out six Clipper batters.

In the nightcap, Jolene Luedtke had two hits and an RBI, while Addison Schauske had three hits including a double to pace the Pioneers.

Pioneers baseball gears up for doubleheader with Clippers

The Sevastopol Pioneers will be looking to grab their first win of the season on Tuesday when they play a doubleheader with Sturgeon Bay.

The Pioneers have not found much success in game action so far this season. Sevastopol dropped a two game doubleheader with Peshtigo this weekend, losing the first game 8-0, and the second game 11-5. Sevastopol will enter the game with Sturgeon Bay 0-7 and 0-6 in the Packerland Conference. Sturgeon Bay had a solid weekend of their own, going 2-1 in their three games on Friday and Saturday. After beating one-hit in their 4-1 loss to L-C, the Clippers bounced back by taking both games of their doubleheader with NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy.

The first pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.

Sevastopol softball looks to bounce back against Mishicot

A new week will be good for Sevastopol, as they saw themselves take their first three losses of the season during the past week. They will start anew with a non-conference game with the Mishicot Indians Monday afternoon.

Sevastopol went through a tough stretch of games, including the second half of their doubleheader with Southern Door, and then two games over the weekend with Peshtigo, dropping all three of those games. The Pioneers went from 7-0 entering the week to 7-3, and will look to get the train back on the right track starting with Monday afternoon.

Mishicot dropped their first game of the season on Friday night, falling to the Algoma Wolves in late fashion. Algoma was able to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, upsetting Mishicot. The Indians are currently 4-1 heading into the matchup with Sevastopol, and are ranked as one of the top teams in the state in their division.

First pitch from Institute is slated for 4:30 p.m.

Pioneers softball swept by Peshtigo in two games

Saturday was not kind to the softball team from Institute as the Sevastopol Pioneers fell in both games to the Peshtigo Bulldogs.

Game One saw a closer contest, with the Pioneers dropping that game by a score of 8-6. Sevastopol had the lead through four and a half innings played, leading 6-3 going into the bottom of the fifth. After a single and a home run, the lead was cut to 1. The Bulldogs would add on three more runs in the frame, making the game 8-6. The score would hold through the rest of the game, with Peshtigo taking the first game.

The Bulldogs would take their success from the previous outing and build on it even more, as Peshtigo took game two 12-2. Five runs in the top of the third inning from the Bulldogs would prove to be the final blow to the Pioneers on Saturday, as they could never recover from that point.

Sevastopol will look to bounce back on Monday when they take on Mishicot.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer makes trip to NEW Lutheran

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar girls soccer team will look to bounce back in their matchup against NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy on Thursday.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar did not find much success against Marinette on Tuesday, as the Marines put up seven goals throughout the game, and routed the United. With a strong schedule coming up in the next few games, the matchup with the Blazers is an opportunity for the United to get some momentum into matches against teams such as Hortonville and Freedom.

Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy took a hard fought loss to Kohler on Saturday, 3-2. The Blazers are 0-3 coming into the matchup with the United and average 1.33 goals per game in their three games played.

The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.

A Patriots error and a fielder's choice by Henry Bley staked the Pioneers to 2-0 lead after three innings. The comeback started in the fourth inning when the Patriots scratched one run across in the fourth inning. The Pioneers would help the Patriots' cause on their other three runs which came via a wild pitch and three errors. Sevastopol baseball takes trip to Goodman/Pembine

Looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s results will be the Sevastopol Pioneers, as they host the Goodman/Pembine Patriots on Thursday.

After minimal success at the plate against the Eagles of Southern Door, the Pioneers will look to get back on track with their non-conference game with Goodman/Pembine. Frankie DeYoung was a bright spot behind the plate for Sevastopol in Tuesday’s game, as he made multiple plays to keep runners stranded at third on pitches in the dirt.

The Patriots are 0-1 on the season so far after a loss to NEW Lutheran last Thursday by a score of 7-2. Goodman/Pembine made a trip to the Regional Final in last season’s postseason trip ultimately losing 15-9 to Lena. These two teams matched up in the beginning of the season last year, with the Patriots defeating Sevastopol 8-3.

First pitch from Goodman/Pembine is set for 5:00 p.m.

Pioneers softball stays at home against Patriots

NOTE: A previous version of this story had Sevastopol traveling for the game, but it will instead be played in Institute.

After nearly getting two games in on Tuesday against Southern Door, the Sevastopol Pioneers will have to shift their attention to Pembine/Goodman on Thursday with the second half of the game with the Eagles still lingering.

Sevastopol had a strong showing in the first game against Southern Door, getting out to a 7-0 lead before the Eagles tied it in the bottom of the seventh. Addison Schauske had her hands all over the win in game one, making a big impact on the mound and in the batter's box. Schauske hit a game deciding 3 run home run in the top of the eighth inning to propel the Pioneers to a 11-7 win.

Pembine/Goodman has started off their season on the slow end, losing their first four matchups. Three of those losses came in the Hodag Dome, where Sevastopol played two non-conference games earlier this season. Losses to Clintonville, Boyceville, Kingsford (MI), and Wausaukee has been the tale of the season so far for the Patriots. The Pioneers took care of business last season against Pembine/Goodman, winning 17-0.

First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
