Pioneers girls visit Peshtigo for Packerland opener

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team hopes to continue its undefeated start on Tuesday when it battles Peshtigo on the road Tuesday night. 

 

The Pioneers have won each of its three games by at least 21 points so far this season, including a 53-24 decision against Wausaukee last Tuesday after winning by more than 60 the night before. The Bulldogs are coming off an over two week break after beating Marinette 63-29 on November 18th.

 

Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

Sevastopol boys dominate Suring

The Sevastopol Pioneers opened the 2021-22 basketball season with a convincing 61-41 home victory over the Suring Eagles in a non-conference matchup.  The Pioneers took a 29-17 lead into intermission and never looked back.  The trio of Tommy Giblin, Jack DeYoung, and Carter Bieri combined for 44 points to lead the Pioneers.  Giblin was hot from the outside nailing five three-pointers to take game-high honors with 17 points.  

 

Sevastopol girls topple Wausaukee on the road

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team made the most of their trip up north with a 53-24 win over Wausaukee Tuesday night.

 

The Pioneers outscored their hosts 28-9 in the opening half thanks in part to Naomi Rikkola scoring 15 of her team-high 17 points in the frame. Bailey Rikkola kicked in 13 points of her own. Sparrow Luccarini led the Rangers with 11 points while no other teams scored more than four.

 

The Pioneers will take the rest of the week off from games until they battle Peshtigo on November 30th.

Sevastopol smokes Stockbridge, face Wausaukee

The Sevastopol girls' basketball season got another convincing win on Monday ahead of its Tuesday night matchup at Wausaukee.

 

The Pioneers beat Stockbridge Monday night at home 67-5. No stats were found for this contest.

 

They will face a Rangers squad on Tuesday that has split its first two games of the season. It most recently beat Goodman/Pembine 54-14. The Pioneers scored the extra game after Wausaukee's original opponent Green Bay West canceled much of its varsity girls' basketball slate due to a lack of participation.

 

Tip is set for 7:15 p.m.

Sevastopol girls play Stockbridge

The Sevastopol girls basketball team will squeeze in a pair of games before the Thanksgiving holiday beginning on Monday.

 

The Pioneers are coming off a 56-35 win over Oneida Nation last week. The Indians did not fare well in its first game of the season, losing to Sheboygan Lutheran 80-6. The Pioneers will also travel to face Wausaukee on Tuesday. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. in Institute.

Sevastopol girls basketball welcomes Oneida Nation

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team opens their 2021-2022 campaign in Institute Thursday night when they host Oneida Nation.

 

The Pioneers finished their season in the middle of the pack in the Packerland Conference last season and beat Gibraltar in the opening round of the playoffs before falling to the eventual state champion Mishicot Indians in the regional semifinal. The Thunderhawks had troubles getting their season going last year, only playing six games beginning on January 28th. They went 3-2 in contest games before having to forfeit its regional matchup to NEW Lutheran.

 

Tip time is set for 6:30 p.m.

DCU highlights All-Bay Conference

The Door County United Swim Team saw many of its team members get All-Bay Conference accolades after they were announced last week.

 

Gaining first team accolades were Julia Michalski, Phoebe Bissen, Christy Braun and

Danica Neville for the 200 Medley Relay, Cassie Rankin for the 200 Freestyle, Christy Braun for the 200 IM, Julia Michalski for the 50 Freestyle, Phoebe Bissen for the 100 fly, Sanya Wienke for the 100 freestyle, Cassie Rankin for the 500 Freestyle, Phoebe Bissen, Sanya Wienke, Cassie Rankin and Christy Braun for the 200 Freestyle relay,  Julia Michalski for 100 backstroke, Christy Braun for the 100 breaststroke, and Julia Michalski, Sanya Wienke, Danica Neville and Cassie Rankin for the 400 freestyle relay.

 

Second team honors went to Danica Neville for the 100 breaststroke while honorable mention accolades went to Sanya Wienke in the 200 IM and Brooke Strege for the 500 yard freestyle. 

DCU celebrates successful season at sectionals

The Door County United Girls Swim Team competed in the Division 1 Sectional meet in Neenah on Saturday, November 6th. The sectional team consisted of Phoebe Bissen (SBHS), Christy Braun (SBHS), Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV), Isabella Jimenez Seyfer (SBHS), Julia Michalski (SHBS), Gaby Moreno (SBHS), Danica Neville (SDHS), Cassie Rankin (SEV), Anika Steinbach (SEV), Brooke Strege (SDHS), Sanya Wienke (SBHS). The team finished 7th overall out of 13 overall teams. Phoebe Bissen finished 9th overall in the 50 yard free and 17th overall in the 100 Fly. Gaby Moreno Finished 18th overall in the 50-yard freestyle and 23rd overall in the 100-yard freestyle. Danica Neville finished 10th overall in the 100 breaststroke and 18th overall in the 200 yard IM. The 200-yard freestyle relay, consisting of Phoebe Bissen, Sanya Weinke, Danica Neville, and Cassie Rankin finished 5th overall, just shy of qualifying for state. Christy Braun finished 5th overall in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:11.63, allowing her to qualify for state on Saturday, November 13th. The student-athletes worked extremely hard for their success this season. Best of luck to Christy at the state swim meet on Saturday.
