Pioneers volleyball exits tournament

The Sevastopol Pioneers volleyball team saw their season end on Thursday night in front of its home crowd, losing to Iola-Scandinavia 3-0.

 

The Thunderbirds earned their trip to the regional final at Pittsville by topping the Pioneers 25-22, 25-13, 25-18.

 

The Pioneers' season ends with a 14-14 mark.

DCU visits Shawano for sprints meet

The season is winding down, but the team will travel to Shawano High School for the conference sprints meet on Tuesday, October 22nd. 

 

The Door County United (DCU) girls swim team held their own in the non-conference invitational on Saturday, October 19th, at Shorewood High School. The team placed 7th out of 17 teams, scoring 124 points total. Julia Michalski (SBHS) was the top scorer for DCU, scoring 26 points with her 7th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and her 5th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Freshman Quinn Sperber (SDHS) dropped time in both of her events, placing 24th in the 50-yard freestyle and 19th in the 100-yard backstroke. The relays were the most successful, helping to score the team 66 points overall. The 200-yard medley relay consisted of Julia Michalski (SBHS), Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV), Isabella Jimenez Seyfer (SBHS), and Megan Quaderer (SBHS). The 200-yard freestyle relay consisted of Choe Bissen (SBHS), Megan Quaderer (SBHS), Kailyn Neville (SDHS), and Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV). The 400-yard freestyle relay consisted of Julia Michalski (SBHS), Kailyn Neville (SDHS), Megan Quaderer (SBHS), and Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV).

 

Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Seymour, New London, Marinette, Clintonville, and the host school are expected to compete in the meet when it begins in Shawano at 5 p.m.

Pioneers end regular season by taming Tigers

The Sevastopol Pioneers went from being winless last season to five-win campaign this year after beating Gillett 44-14 Thursday night in Institute.

 

Logan Schuh commanded the offense with over 320 yards through the air and on the ground, contributing to four touchdowns. Aiden Isaksen was on the receiving end of Schuh's three passing touchdowns as he compiled 160 yards on seven catches. The Pioneers showed balance in their rushing attack as well with Bo Tanck and Chase Haberli adding 64 and 58 yards on the ground in addition to Schuh's 77.

 

The Pioneers will now wait to see if five wins is enough to make the playoffs when the bracket is announced on Saturday.

Dadam, Rikkola post Top-10 performances at Packerlands

Two runners from the Sevastopol Pioneers cross country teams finished in the Top 10 at Tuesday's Packerland Conference Championships, which were hosted at UW-Green Bay.

 

Jarius Dadam challenged the leaders with a time of 19:00 in the boys race to finish in third place. Naomi Rikkola covered the 5K distance with a time of 22:17, which was good for eighth overall.

Pioneers stoned by Hematites

The Sevastopol Pioneers saw their winning streak end Friday evening, falling to Ishpeming 54-0.

 

Ray Johnson's interception was the only thing that could slow down the Michigan-based offense. Dash Kuehn completed 6 of 15 passes for 64 yards for Sevastopol. Three of the completions were courtesy of Liam Schultz, gathering 45 yards in the process.

 

Rikkola and Linnan pace Pioneers in Luxemburg races

The Sevastopol Pioneers took on more than a dozen other teams at Friday's Russ Fameree Invitational hosted by Luxemburg-Casco.

 

In the girls' race, Naomi Rikkola retained her lead spot for the Pioneers with a 5K time of 23:37 for 49th place overall. The youth movement was on display in the boys' race as freshman Paxton Linnan led the way with a time of 20:39 to finish in 84th.

Pioneers volleyball swept by Blazers

The Sevastopol Pioneers volleyball team challenged conference-leading NEW Lutheran but never had the breakthrough they needed to steal a set as they lost 3-0 Thursday night.

 

The Blazers captured the match 25-17, 26-24, 25-22. The Blazers' defense held off the Pioneer's attack, with Emma Laatsch (19 digs), Sydney Steffel (11 digs), and Kiley Dhein (10 digs) all posting double-digit dig totals.

Sevastopol hosts cross country invite at Cherry Hills Thursday

Ten teams from around northeast Wisconsin will tackle the hills of Cherry Hills Golf Course on Thursday for the annual Sevastopol Pioneer Invitational.

 

Algoma, Denmark, Gibraltar, Green Bay Preble, Luxemburg-Casco, Manitowoc Lutheran, Providence Academy (Green Bay), Sturgeon Bay, and Two Rivers will join the Pioneers for the 5K races.

 

The schedule is below:

Girls (Varsity and JV): 3:45 p.m.

MS Boys & Girls (1.5 miles): 4:30 p.m.

Boys (Varsity and JV): 5:00 p.m.
