Sevastopol boys rallies in second half for win

At halftime, it looked like the Algoma High School boys’ basketball team might pick up its first conference win of the season. Sevastopol’s Robbie Pollman and Brent Haberli had something to say about that idea, fueling an explosive Pioneer rally. Sevastopol turned a deficit into a 75-64 victory. It was the Pioneers’ second win in as many nights, good momentum heading into the state tournament Tuesday night.


Sevastopol ends the regular season at 7-14. They visit Howards Grove, 11-11 overall from the Big East-North. Algoma is 2-20 overall and will be traveling to Cedar Grove-Belgium.

 

Pioneers extinguish Blazers in Green Bay

Sevastopol erased a three-point halftime deficit to blow past NEW Lutheran on the road 65-58.

 

Robby Pollman continues to pad his scoring record in Pioneer history, leading the team with 33 points. Johnny Jorns chipped in another 14 points for the Pioneers, which outscored the Blazers 41-31 to get the road victory. Marshal Bukowski led the Blazers with 15 points while two other plays registered 10 points.

Sevastopol faces tall task in Kewaunee

The Sevastopol boys' basketball team will try its hand against the Packerland's top team when it travels to Kewaunee Monday night.

 

Robby Pollman willed the Pioneers to victory in its 75-74 victory over Gibraltar last week, scoring 35 points in the contest. That was the Pioneers' first conference win since January 7th win against Algoma. The Storm, on the other hand, has one such loss the entire season in the Packerland and is in the middle of a seven-game winning streak overall. The tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

Sevastopol girls tops NEW Lutheran

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team got their second Packerland win of the season Thursday night, defeating NEW Lutheran 39-36. 

 

The Pioneers were able to eight-point lead heading into the break and was able to hold off a Blazers run in the second half to secure the victory. Stockbridge will be the final opponent for the Pioneers before the playoffs begin next week. 

Sevastopol - Algoma boys game rescheduled for February 28

The Packerland Conference game scheduled for Tuesday night between the Algoma Wolves and the Sevastopol Pioneers has been rescheduled for Friday, February 28 at Sevastopol.  Sevastopol did not have school on Tuesday due to the snowstorm Monday evening and Tuesday morning.  The JV and Varsity games will be played at 6 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively. Sevastopol will be saluting the seniors on the team prior to the varsity game.

West comes up just shy of sectional wrestling

The Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestling team completed its season Saturday at the WIAA Regional meet in Denmark. 

 

Nick West led the way for Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol with a third place finish.

Pioneers can't slow down Clippers

Despite another strong night by Robby Pollman and Brent Haberli, the Sevastopol Pioneers boys' basketball team simply didn't have enough against Sturgeon Bay in its 92-69 defeat Thursday.

 

The Clippers did their damage from behind the arc, knocking down 13 three-pointers while the Pioneers did their own good work from range, connecting on 11 of their own. Pollman and Haberli each connected on four three-pointers en route to 31 and 23 point night respectively. Gunnar Tebon led all scorers with 32 points in the game for the Clippers. 

 

The Pioneers are back in action at home on Tuesday against Algoma.

Sevastopol, Sturgeon Bay girls renew rivalry

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team looks for conference win number two Saturday when they travel just a few miles south to face Sturgeon Bay. 

 

The Pioneers have lost their last two games after breaking a multi-season stretch of conference losses with a win at Oconto on January 23rd. After only scoring 15 points at Peshtigo, the Pioneers improved through the game in their most recent contest, a 54-40 loss to Southern Door. The Clippers did not fare much better against Peshtigo in their last game, losing 45-27. 

 

Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

Pioneers face tough test in Eagles

The Sevastopol Pioneers boys' basketball team hopes to make it two in a row this season when they host the Southern Door Eagles at home Friday night.

 

The Pioneers saw Robby Pollman and Josh Pfieger combine to score 50 points in their 68-65 win over Living Word Lutheran in Jackson, Wis. last Saturday. That win broke a five-game losing streak for the Pioneers. The Eagles are also coming off a win, beating Peshtigo 61-37. The contest features two of the county's most recent additions to the 1,000 point club with the Eagles' Ryan Claflin crossing that threshold last weekend and Robby Pollman doing so in January.

 

Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

Kewaunee, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol battle in final Packerland dual

The final dual of the Packerland Conference wrestling season is Thursday night as Kewaunee hosts Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol.

 

Both teams are coming off tournaments their last time out on the mat. At the Deerfield Scramble, the Storm finished 3rd as a team and saw two individual titles won by Jason Reinke and Jack Severin. Drew Barganz took third and Nick West took 5th as Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol competed hard as a team at its own Dirk Sorenson Door County Classic. Kewaunee clinched the conference title last week with a win over Southern Door. Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol enters the night 2-1 in conference action, topping Oconto and Peshtigo.

 

First whistle is set for 7 p.m.

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol places two at Door County Classic

An outmanned Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol squad competed hard at its own Dirk Sorenson Door County Classic on Saturday.

 

Drew Barganz took third and Nick West took 5th as the only place winners in the tournament which featured some of the best teams in northeast Wisconsin and across the state.
