Pioneers take on Clippers in Packerland Conference play

The Sturgeon Bay girls basketball team will travel to Sevastopol to play the Pioneers in conference action on Friday December 31st. 

 

The Pioneers come into this game winners in 7 of their first 8 matchups, and are currently on a 4 game win streak and are hoping to make it 5 straight with a win over the Clippers. Naomi Rikkola is leading the Pioneers in scoring with 15 points per game, and Bailey Rikkola is averaging 13 points per game. Both are also the top two rebounders on the team.

 

As for the Clippers, they come in seeking their first win on the season after losing their first 5 matchups.

Pioneers fall in tournament opening shootout

The Sevastopol boys basketball team traveled to Elcho High School to face off with the Abbotsford Falcons in tournament play and lost a high scoring affair by a score of 85-75. 

 

This was the 4th straight loss for the Pioneers losing their last 4 matchups to Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Goodman/Pembine, and Abbotsford. 

 

The Pioneers will look to turn their luck around in the new year when they travel to Algoma to take on the Wolves on Tuesday January 4th with tip set for 7:30 PM.

Pioneers beat Chiefs to win 4th straight

The Sevastopol girls basketball team beat the Shiocton Chiefs 44-36 on Tuesday December 28th. 

 

The win for the Sevastopol girls varsity team marks their 4th straight win, beating Roncalli, Southern Door, Algoma, and Shiocton during that stretch of games. 

 

The Pioneers will next be in action on Friday December 31st as they host Sturgeon Bay in a Packerland Conference matchup with tip set for 12:30 PM from Sevastopol High School.

Pioneers set to take on Hornets in tournament play

The Sevastopol boys basketball team will be traveling to Elcho High School to face the Elcho Hornets as part of a tournament taking place at Elcho High School.

 

The Pioneers have lost three straight including two Packerland Conference Matchups but are looking to turn things around with a win over the Hornets on Tuesday December 28th. The Pioneers have been getting a lot of offensive production from Jack de Young who is averaging 16 points per game and Manav Jandu who is averaging 10 points per game. 

 

As for the Hornets, they are looking to avoid losing back to back games after losing their last game to Florence by a score of 64-50 on Wednesday December 22nd. The Hornets enter this contest led by Chase Novak and Seth Schuett who are averaging 19 points per game, and 16 points per game respectively.

Pioneers travel to Shiocton to take on Chiefs

The Sevastopol girls basketball team will be traveling to Shiocton for a matchup against the Chiefs on Tuesday December 28th. 

 

The Pioneers were winners in their last game before the holiday break, beating Algoma by a score of 60-26. The Pioneers are led by Naomi Rikkola who is averaging 15 points per game, and Bailey Rikkola who is averaging 13 points per game. Both are also leading the team in rebounds per game. 

 

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have had a hot start to their season, winning back to back games, and winning 7 of their first 8 contests. The Chiefs have used a balanced offensive attack to gain their success so far, but they are led by Kendal Stingle who is the only player averaging double digit points on the team with 10 points per game.

 

Tip is set for 7:15 at Shiocton High School.

Pioneer boys hit the road to Goodman/Pembine

The Sevastopol Pioneers' boy basketball team will head on the road Monday night to face the Goodman/Pembine Patriots.

 

Jack DeYoung scored 21 points but no one else scored more than eight in the Pioneers' 79-43 loss to the Clippers in their last game on Thursday. DeYoung is averaging just over 15 points a game while Manav Jandu has been pitching in another 11 a contest. Boone Larison scored 18 and two others reached double figures in the Patriots' 78-39 thrashing of St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.

 

Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.

Pioneer girls tame Wolves

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team got balanced scoring to more than double up their visitors from Algoma 60-26.

 

Naomi Rikkola led the Pioneers' scoring attack with 16 points with two other registering double figures. The Pioneers' defense meanwhile was suffocating, allowing no more than four points to one player in the entire game. The Wolves were down 29-11 at halftime and outscored 31-15 in the second half. Ryley Zimmerman and Ameila Robinson each had four points in the loss for the Wolves. 

Pioneers girls host Algoma

The Sevastopol Pioneers and the Algoma Wolves meet Friday night in a Packerland girls' basketball showdown in Institute.

 

The Pioneers are getting 14 points a game from Bailey and Naomi Rikkola as they have split their first two Packerland games. They soared past Southern Door in their last game 58-28. The Wolves showed plenty of balanced scoring and fight in their 38-35 loss to first place Peshtigo on Tuesday.

Pioneer, Clippers battle in boys' basketball

Two county rivals will match up in Institute on Thursday night when Sturgeon Bay visits Sevastopol.

 

The Clippers head to Institute looking for their first Packerland win on the season after falling to Oconto 79-61 in its last game. Izaak Aune continues to lead the team in scoring with over 17 points per game. The Pioneers are in the same boat as the Clippers after seeing their Packerland record drop to 0-2 following their 77-64 loss despite Manav Jandu erupting for 22 points.

Pioneer girls renew county rivalry with Southern Door

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team  will make its case as the county's best team when they host Southern Door on Thursday.

 

The Pioneers are off to a 4-1 start after beating Roncalli 44-39 earlier this week. Bailey and Naomi Rikkola have been a potent 1-2 punch for the Pioneers as at least one of them leads the team in all major categories. The pair are currently averaging more than 14 points a game. Taylor Jandrin is trying to lead his Eagles squad to its first win since he took the job officially over a week ago. Kendra Shimon and Ashlyn Delfosse each scored 11 points in their 57-38 loss to Brillion on Tuesday.

Pioneer boys hang on for win over Stockbridge

The Sevastopol Pioneers were edged by Stockbridge 51-49 on Tuesday night in non-conference boys basketball action. .  The Pioneers had a 15 point lead at halftime and were able to hang on the lead with the one-point victory.  The Pioneers had a balanced attack with Carter Bieri leading the way with 12 points.  Sevastopol was hot from the outside, hitting eight three-pointers from the field. 

Pioneers hope for continued non-con success against Stockbridge

The Sevastopol Pioneers look to improve to 3-0 in non-conference play Tuesday when they battle Stockbridge in Institute.

 

The Pioneers took Wausaukee to task last Friday 65-38. Jack deYoung scored 21 points to lead all Pioneers players in the victory. The Indians won 79-62 over Eastbrook Academy on Saturday.

Pioneers girls win a tale of two halves against Roncalli

The Sevastopol Pioneers girls' basketball team had a big lead before almost losing it in the second half of its 44-39 victory over Roncalli Monday night.

 

The Pioneers limited the Jets to a couple of baskets in the first half as they took a 25-5 lead into the break. The Jets came out firing in the second half, scoring 34 points to almost overtake the Pioneers.

Sevastopol girls travel to Roncalli

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team is kicking off its week with a road trip to Manitowoc to face Roncalli.

 

The Pioneers suffered their first setback of the season last Tuesday when it lost to Peshtigo 58-45. Their defense still hasn't allowed more than 60 points in a game and the Pioneers did not even allow more than 40 points prior to their matchup against the Bulldogs. The Jets are 1-3 on the season, losing their last game to Valders 39-24. They beat Southern Door earlier this year 45-30, but otherwise have struggled to break the 30 point mark.

Pioneers rebound to beat Wausaukee

A day after losing to Peshtigo 83-46, the Sevastopol boys' basketball team beat Wausaukee Friday night 65-38.

 

Jack deYoung followed up a 12 point night against the Bulldogs with 21 points against the Rangers. Manav Jandu pitched in 11 to help the victors' cause. The Pioneers hit the ground running after a slow offensive night against the Bulldogs, outscoring the Rangers 31-16 in the opening frame. 

Pioneers boys host Peshtigo

The Sevastopol Pioneers' boys basketball team is staying Insititute Thursday night for its game against Peshtigo.

 

The Pioneers got their first win of the season last week against Suring when three players reached double figures to beat the Eagles 61-41. Tommy Giblin led the way with 17 points followed by Jack deYoung's 16. The Bulldogs have not yet played a game this season.

Lund, Peshtigo too much for Sevastopol girls

The Sevastopol Pioneers took their first loss of the season on the road Tuesday night, as the Peshtigo Tigers upended the Pioneers 58-45.  Sydney Lund had a huge game for the Tigers scoring 22 points by going 7/9 from the field and hitting 8/11 free throws.  She also had eight rebounds and five steals on defense to lead Peshtigo to the win.  Sevastopol (3-1)will now play Manitowoc Roncalli on the road next Monday in a non-conference game.
