Pioneers track athletes hold their own at L-C Invite

Battling mostly schools bigger than them, Sevastopol track teams posted impressive results at Thursday's Luxemburg-Casco Spartan Invitational.

 

The athletes posted 11 personal records and a pair of season records on the day. The top-performing boys were Ezra Linnan (pole vault) and a pair of relays that finished in the top eight overall. Bea Dramm took second in the 3200m and Brooklyn Brauner took third in the shot put to pace the girls' team.

Pioneers baseball can't dig out against Blue Devils

Oconto scored the first seven runs to sink the Sevastopol Pioneers baseball team 12-1 in Thursday action.

 

The Blue Devils scored two in the second and five in the third to put the Pioneers behind the eight ball and ended Frankie Ash's day as he gave up the runs on seven hits while striking out one. The Pioneers got onto the scoreboard in the fifth inning when Reece Lauder scored on a Blue Devils error forced by a hard ground ball by Henry Bley. The de Young brothers and Lauder collected the hits for the Pioneers. 

Pioneers softball falls to Oconto

Crooked numbers in the second and third innings by Oconto led to their 10-4 victory over Sevastopol on Thursday.

 

The Blue Devils put up two runs in the second inning and four in the third that put them up for good. Libby Ash took the loss for the Pioneers, allowing eight runs on seven hits in just shy of four innings. She struck out two in the process.

 

Providing the offense was Naomi Rikkola and Bailey Rikkola with both registering a pair of hits. Jolene Luedtke drove in the game's first run for the Pioneers before the Blue Devils went on to score the next eight runs. Bailey Rikkola drove in a run in the fifth inning and Naomi drove in two in the seventh. 

 

The reserves did register a 7-3 win in the second game. Kayla Ranly got things going with a RBI triple and Alaina Schopf drove in the winning run with a bases loaded walk. Addison Schauske picked up the win with six strikeouts over four innings while giving up three runs on three hits.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer hosts NEW Lutheran

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer team hopes Thursday brings their first win of the season when they host NEW Lutheran. 

 

The Vikineers have registered a point since a season opening tie at Manitowoc Lutheran. Since that match, they have gone 0-4 including a 9-0 loss to Kiel its last time out. The Blazers snapped their five-game losing streak with 0-0 tie against Lourdes Academy. 

 

Game time is set for 6 p.m.

Sevastopol baseball, softball visit Oconto

The Sevastopol Pioneers will bring their bats and balls to Oconto for a Thursday doubleheader.

 

The softball team saw their four-game winning streak come to an end earlier this week when they were shut out by Peshtigo 6-0. The Blue Devils have won both of its games so far this season, including a 19-1 win over NEW Lutheran its last time out.

 

On the baseball diamond, the Pioneers are still looking for their first win of the season. They lost to Kewaunee 10-0 their previous time out on Thursday. The Blue Devils had a four-game winning streak, but it is sandwiched between two losing streaks, including a close 5-4 loss to Mishicot earlier this week.

 

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Duessler, Werkheiser win Door County Classic titles

Sevastopol track athletes posted 11 personal records and brought home titles from Monday's Door County Classic.

 

Danica Werkheiser won the high jump and Kylee Duessler captured the 100m dash title while both teams took fourth place overall.

Pioneers softball drops first game

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team dropped their first game of the season on Monday, falling to Peshtigo 6-0.

 

The Pioneers'simply couldn't muster the offense against the Bulldogs with Kristen Daubner registering two of the team's three hits and Bailey Rikkola collecting the other one. Bethany Ahrens mowed down the lineup otherwise, pitching all seven innings for the Bulldogs while striking out 12. 

 

Errors also plagued the Pioneers with half of the six runs given up by pitcher Addison Schauske going into the scorebook as unearned. Schauske and Libby Ash combined to strike out five.

Pioneers softball look to continue hot streak

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team hopes to keep their perfect record intact Monday when they face Peshtigo. 

 

The Pioneers won their last game 4-1 thanks to Libby Ash, who kept the Storm under control by allowing just the lone run on three hits over five innings, striking out five along the way. The offense was led by Samantha Differt, who recorded three hits on the night. Jolene Luedtke, Teagan Ellefson, and Ash also got hits in the game. It was a departure from their three previous wins when they mercy ruled each of their opponents. The Bulldogs figure to be worthy adversaries with a perfect 3-0 record including a pair of victories against Southern Door last week.

 

Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.

Pioneers softball best Kewaunee

The Sevastopol Pioneers softball team secured another Packerland victory Thursday, defeating Kewaunee 4-1 in Institute. 

 

Libby Ash kept the Storm under control by allowing just the lone run on three hits over five innings, striking out five along the way. The offense was led by Samantha Differt, who recorded three hits on the night. Jolene Luedtke, Teagan Ellefson, and Ash also got hits in the game. Johanna Andreae registered the lone RBI for the Pioneers. 

Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer heads to Kiel

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer team is still looking for its first win of the season when it travels to Kiel this afternoon.

 

The Vikineers could only muster a second-half goal in its 7-1 loss to Marinette its last time out. It will be a tall task against Kiel, which is 7-0 on the season and have outscored their opponents 38-3 in five April wins.

 

First touch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Sevastopol's bats to battle Kewaunee

The Sevastopol baseball and softball teams will stay at home Thursday afternoon for a pair of games against Kewaunee.

 

The Pioneers baseball team saw errors derail last week's loss to Goodman/Pembine as they start the season 0-2. The Storm knocked around NEW Lutheran 12-2 earlier this week.

 

The Pioneers softball team blew past Goodman/Pembine 17-0 in their last game while the Storm still look for their first decision of the season. 

 

The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer hosts Marinette

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer team will stay at home Tuesday night when they host Marinette from across the bay.

 

The Vikineers are still looking for their first win of the season, starting the year with an 0-2-1 record. They lost their last game 3-1 with the score coming in the second half. 

 

The Marines blew out Little Chute 10-1 to post their first victory of the season last week. 

Errors doom Sevastopol baseball

Four errors in two decisive innings sent the Sevastopol baseball team to an 8-3 loss to Goodman-Pembine in Institute on Thursday.

 

It was tied 3-3 after four innings of play with Nick Peterson and Frankie Ash knocking in the runs in the third inning and a wild pitch occurring while Reece Lauder was at the plate. Goodman-Pembine would score the next five runs, aided in part by four errors by the Pioneers.  Ash was the hard-luck pitcher for the Pioneers, giving up eight runs on six hits, but only two of those runs were earned across 5 1/3 innings of work. He also had four strikeouts in the game. 

Sevastopol softball slugs past Goodman/Pembine

An 11-run third inning ended the day early for the Sevastopol softball team 17-0 after just three innings of play against Goodman-Pembine.

 

The Pioneers scored six runs before the big rally thanks to RBI from Jolene Luedtke and Samantha Differt in the first inning and Naomi Rikkola, Johanna Andreae, and Kristin Daubner in the second inning. Tegan Ellefson delivered the big blow in the decisive third inning with a three-run homer while Libby Ash, Kayla Ranly, Rikkola, Andreae, Luedtke, and Daubner also forced in runs from the plate. Ash sparkled on the mound, limiting Goodman-Pembine to just one hit across three innings while striking out five.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar visit Kohler in soccer action

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer team hit the road Thursday in search of their first win of the 2022 season when they travel to Kohler.

 

The Vikineers hope to get the taste of a 7-0 loss to Appleton West out of their mouths after registering a tie in their first game. Kohler has lost their only game of the season, a 3-0 decision to Omro.

 

The two teams are scheduled to square off at 7 p.m. in Kohler.

Duessler, pole vaulters capture event wins for Pioneers

Three athletes for the Sevastopol track team captured event wins at Tuesday's track meet hosted by Gibraltar and also featuring Kewaunee and Algoma.

 

Kylie Duessler won the 100m while Marley Turnerand and Danica Werkheiser had identical heights to win the pole vault.

Sevastopol's bats stay home against Peshtigo

The Sevastopol baseball and softball teams head to Peshtigo Tuesday for Packerland Conference action.

 

The Pioneers softball's offense exploded over the weekend, scoring 28 runs across two victories on Saturday. It will be the Bulldogs' first game this season. The girls will play in Institute.

 

The Pioneers' baseball team will play in their first game Tuesday while the Bulldogs nipped Marinette 8-7 in their first game over the weekend. The boys will play at West Jacksonport

 

Games start at 5 p.m.

Sevastopol-Gibraltar visits Valders in soccer

The Sevastopol/Gibraltar soccer team looks for their first win of the season on Tuesday when they stay around town to face Valders.

 

The Vikineers were shut out by Appleton West in their first match of the season this month. Valders did not fair well in their first match either, falling to Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 9-0.

 

The first touch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Sevastopol's Frank honored

Sevastopol's Ron Frank was honored at a recent Wisconsin Football Coaches Association event.

 

He was presented a plaque for 30 years of coaching by the WFCA, which covers three different stints as the head coach of the Pioneers. beginning in 1991. In 2018 he helped engineer Sevastopol's first state title in football and the first-ever in Wisconsin history in eight-man football. He also led the Pioneers to multiple appearances in the WIAA Eight-Man Football Jamboree, a precursor to the state tournament.

Pioneers softball sweep pair in Crivitz

The Sevastopol softball team picked up a pair of wins in Crivitz on Saturday.

 

The Pioneers hit the mercy rule against Crivitz in three innings, beating the host school 18-0. Libby Ash was a star as the winning pitcher and going 1-2 and clearing the bases on a triple. Kristen Daubner went a perfect 4-4 with four RBI and a triple. Samantha Differt went 1-2 and contributed two RBI. 


Sevastopol hit the big number again against Crandon, winning that game 18-10
Daubner had another big game at the plate going 2-3 with three RBI on two doubles. Teagan Ellefson went 3-4 while knocking in a pair.
Naomi Rikkola, Alaina Schopf, Jolene Luedtke, and Bailey Rikkola also collected hits in the game won again by pitcher Ash.
