Pioneers boys win opener over Indians

The Sevastopol boys basketball team opened their season on a high note Tuesday night, defeating Mishicot 64-43.

Andrew Wiesner made sure the Pioneers got out to a fast start, hitting four three-pointers in the opening stanza to stake the team to a 31-23 lead at the break. The offense did not slow down in the second half, but scoring became more spread out as eight different players scored at least two points in the frame.

Wiesner ended his night with a game-high 22 points while the Pioneers also got eight points from Damien Lardinois and seven points apiece from Logan Schuh and Bo Tanck. Bradley Wendricks led the Indians with 10 points on the night, eight of which came in the first half. He was complemented by eight points from Brylee Garcia and six points from Jax Vogel.

Bears claw past Pioneers in season opener

The Sevastopol girls' basketball team will have plenty of time to work on some of the lessons learned from Tuesday's game after its 71-11 loss to Bonduel.

The Pioneers struggled shooting from the field against a longer Bears squad as they also adjust to losing their two top scorers. As a result, the Pioneers shot just 13 percent from the field including 2-for-15 from behind the arc. Braelyn Staats and Luna Ramirez hit those three-pointers to pace the team with three points apiece.

The Pioneers will play again after the Thanksgiving holiday when they play local rival Southern Door on December 2nd in Institute.
