Sevastopol Spring Sports Senior Day: Baseball

Sevastopol head baseball coach Kent Berkley will have to wait another year to manage.

Berkley left Sturgeon Bay at the end of last year for the opportunity to manage the Pioneers after the team went 3-14 in 2019. Robby Pollman and Josh Pflieger were returning all-conference performers for the team with  Jacob Pflieger, Caleb Malvitz, Arthur Hocevar and Johnny Jorns all slated to return as well. Even though his time with his seniors were short, Berkley left them with some thoughts about baseball during a recently posted spring sports tribute.

After graduation, Pollman will be attending St. Norbert and studying Business. Josh Pflieger will attend UW-Platteville to study Computer Science. Jacob Pflieger will be attending UW-Stevens Point and studying Natural Resources. Malvitz will be attending NWTC and studying Electrical Power Distribution Program. Hocevar will be attending NWTC and studying Electrical Engineering Technology. Jorns will be attending NWTC and studying Fire Medic and Fire Science.

Sevastopol Spring Sports Senior Day: Softball

For Allison Daubner, Karoline Jordan, Lauren Junion, and Melissa Lopez, the 2020 Sevastopol softball will always be what might've been.

The Pioneers went 4-14 last year but won two of their final three games to advance to the second round of the WIAA playoffs. Junion was a second-team All-Packerland Conference performer last year as an infielder. In a spring sports tribute video, Pioneers head coach Brooke Bittorf offered these words.

After graduation, Junion will be attending US Army National Guard then Marquette and studying Nursing. Daubner will be attending Carroll University and studying Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Jordan will be attending UW-River Falls and studying Equine Science. Lopez will be

Sevastopol Track Senior Day: Mya Ploor

Sevastopol's Mya Ploor could have been on the doorstep for three different events at the state track meet if she had a senior season this year.

In addition to being on the state runner-up 4 x 800M relay team with Zoe Kuehn, Lizzy Fiscus, and Olivia Stenzel, she was also a sectional qualifier in the 4 x 400M relay and the 800M. She was also improving in many of her events, running two personal records and within shout distance of another in pole vault. Sevastopol track coach Dennis Ploor says her career is not done yet.

After this year, she will be attending Luther College and studying Music Education.

Sevastopol Track Senior Day: Kiegen Sargent

Sevastopol's Kiegen Sargent was hoping to improve on his state placement in one event and qualify in another before his senior season was cut short just six days in.

Sargent placed sixth at the WIAA State Track Meet held LaCrosse last year in long jump, setting a one foot personal record in the process. Reaching the 20 foot barrier seven times in 2019, he leapt 21' 5" at state to capture a medal. Sargent missed out on state in the 100M dash, but improved from his 2018 sectional time. Sevastopol track coach Dennis Ploor said in the school's spring sports video salute video that even though his four-year senior year was cut short, Sargent has big things on the horizon.

After this year, he will be joining the National Guard Infantry and UW-Stevens Point and studying Forestry.

Sevastopol Track Senior Day: Lizzy Fiscus

Sevastopol's Lizzy Fiscus will sadly not have a chance a gold medal after COVID-19 concerns canceled the 2020 spring sports season.

Fiscus, along with Zoe Kuehn, Mya Ploor, Lizzy Fiscus, Olivia Stenzel, ran on the 4x800 team that took second in the state last year with a time of just over 10 minutes flat. As an individual, Fiscus ran four personal record times during her junior year including the 400 meter, 800 meter, 3200 meter, and 2000 meter steeplechase. She was also a part of a sectional qualifying 4 x 400M relay team. Sevastopol Track Coach Dennis Ploor was optimistic for Fiscus in Sevastopol's spring sports video tribute.

During her years in the district, Fiscus was also a member of the school's Destination Imagination team and FFA chapter. She also won the Sturgeon Bay Breakfast Rotary's choral music award in 2018.

Sevastopol Track Senior Day: Kailee Moe

Joining the team in 2018, Moe has competed in the 100M, 200M, Discus, Pole Vault, Long Jump, and two different relays.  She set personal records last year in the 100M, discus, and long jump. In the spring sports salute video, Sevastopol head coach Dennis Ploor had some fun with the senior.

Sevastopol Track Senior Day: Kelton Couperus

Kelton Couperus' career as a Sevastopol track athlete might be as short as his time at the school itself.

Coperus started the year at Mellen High School, located near the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in northern Wisconsin. According to Athletic.net, he had a personal record of 20:28 in the 5K event at the Indianhead Conference Copperud Open in Solon Springs. Sevastopol Track Coach Dennis Ploor said in the school's spring sports video that Coperus was an inspiration.

After this year, Coperus will be attending Brigham Young University and studying Biophysics.

Sevastopol Track Senior Day: Madison Duginski

Madison Duginksi's track career was only six days old when COVID-19 canceled the rest of the season, but she can still look back at the cross country season with high regard.

According to Athletic.net, Duginski tried her hand at distance running last fall, running a 34:24 in her first 5K race. She improved the whole season, cutting off two minutes on her time her next two meets before running sub-30 minute races the rest of the year. Her personal record was at the Packerland Conference meet with a time of 28:13. That was a six-minute personal record on Gibraltar's home course. Head coach Dennis Ploor said in the school spring sports video that it was fun six days with Duginski.

After this year, Duginski will be joining the United States Navy and doing Nuclear Mechanics.

Sevastopol Golf Senior Day: Tyler Kiehnau

The golfer that caused Sevastopol head coach Dan Sanborn to take over the reins in 2020 will be the one he will get to coach the least.

One year removed from being the team's and the area's only All-Packerland Conference honoree, Tyler Kiehnau was the Pioneer's lone senior. He was hoping to build on last year's success to clinch a berth to the state golf tournament in Madison. He scored an 86 in last year's Crivitz sectional, which was good for ninth place. Sanborn hopes golf is something he is able to take with him through life.

After graduation, Kiehnau is attending St. Norbert College to study marketing.

DKHS.com's Champion of Champions Series: 2006 Sevastopol Cross Country

Sevastopol has always had a strong cross country team, but none stronger than their 2006 squad.

The Pioneers placed three of its top seven runners in the top 25 runners linked to teams, outscoring second-place Edgar 109-132.  Racheal Wilson, a freshman at the time, was the top runner for the Pioneers that day, taking 14th place overall with a time of 15:51 in the 4K race. Haley Moeller came in 18th place and Annie Bley came in 39th overall to help Sevastopol earn the title. The Pioneers earned their spot as a team by winning their own sectional, beating second place Oshkosh Lourdes 42-63.
