Wolves trying to stay within distance of Storm for Packerland title

Algoma picked up another big win in Packerland Conference play Friday night defeating Sevastopol 57-35. The Wolves finished third in the conference last season and are pushing for a chance at the title while Kewaunee tries to defend as the champs for another season. 

Friday's win comes against a struggling Pioneers' team who falls to 3-13 meanwhile the Wolves move ahead to 11-6. Algoma has won four-straight and is 8-2 in their last ten games. They will face Kewaunee in mid-February for what could be a pivotal conference matchup. 

 

Luna Ramirez led the Pioneers with nine points while Sienna Cain pitched in with eight points. The Wolves, however, had three players reach double figures including 12 points from Jadyn Nellis and 10 points apiece from Lauren Loucks and Ella Severinsen.

Right now, though, Algoma will focus on their next contest, a 7 p.m. date at Southern Door Tuesday, Feb. 3. 

Wolves girls basketball hosting Pioneers

The Algoma girls' basketball team will host the Sevastopol Pioneers on Friday. The Wolves sit in second place in the Packerland Conference with a 9-1 conference record, while the Pioneers are in fifth place at 3-6.

 

Sevastopol is coming off a 58-34 win over Sturgeon Bay. Sienna Cain and Sydney Peterson led the way, each scoring 19 points. Cain added nine rebounds, two assists, and five steals, while Peterson recorded two rebounds, three assists, six steals, and a block. Luna Ramirez chipped in nine points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

 

Algoma is coming off a 52-46 victory over Peshtigo. Reagan Schnieder led the Wolves with 14 points, followed by Jaydn Nellis with 13 and Claire Gerdmann with 10.

 

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Wolves boys fall short again against Bulldogs

The Algoma Wolves boys basketball team got nipped by the Peshtigo Bulldogs for the second time this season, this time by 45-42 margin Thursday night.

 

The Bulldogs hit six three-pointers in the first half, including three off the fingertips of Levi Hodgins. Parker Lischka and Charlie Prokash each had six points in the first half, but the Wolves found themselves trailing 26-17 at the break. The Wolves' defense kept the Bulldogs in check in the second half, allowing just five made shots from the field. The Bulldogs were able to get to the finish line with the win however thanks to 7-10 free throw shooting.

 

Hodgins led all scorers with 18 points while Brady Polzin registered 13 points and Dominik Baxter chipped in 10 points for the Bulldogs. Lischka paced the Wolves with 14 points while Griffen Robinson added nine points and Prokash added six.

Wolves boys basketball facing Bulldogs at home

The Algoma boys basketball team will host the Peshtigo Bulldogs on Thursday. Algoma sits in second place in the Packerland Conference at 6-2, while Peshtigo is fifth at 5-4.

 

The Bulldogs are coming off a 64-46 victory over Sturgeon Bay. Algoma also won its last game, beating Oconto 58-45. Parker Lischka led the Wolves with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Griffen Robinson added 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Charlie Prokash chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

 

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Algoma takes care of Oconto on the road

January has brought nothing but tough games to the Algoma Wolves and Tuesday was no different. They traveled to face the Oconto Blue Devils who came into the game riding a three-game winning streak. 

Algoma came in and controlled the offensive tempo from the jump, relying on Parker Lischka to lead the way with 13 of his game-high 22 points coming in the first half.

Oconto was unable to slow down the  Algoma offense and the Wolves rolled on to a double-digit, 58-45 victory. Lischka was complemented by Griffen Robinson's 15 points and 10 points from Charlie Prokash. The Blue Devils were led by 12 points from Hayden Peterson and 10 points from Lars Saldana.

 

 

Algoma improved to 11 wins on the season and will now gear up for a home matchup with Peshtigo Thursday at 7 p.m. 

Wolves boys' basketball traveling to face Blue Devils

The Algoma boys’ basketball team travels across the bay on Tuesday to face the Oconto Blue Devils. Oconto is coming off a 51-49 win over Southern Door.

 

The Wolves are looking to bounce back from a 65-44 loss to No. 2-ranked Kewaunee. Griffen Robinson led Algoma with 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Parker Lischka added 10 points, three rebounds, and a steal.

 

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Wolves girls outlast Bulldogs

Ten three pointers made by the Algoma girls basketball team proved to crucial in a 52-46 win over Peshtigo Monday night.

 

Jadyn Nellis and Reagan Schneider each hit two in the first half, helping the Wolves climb to a 27-23 advantage at the break. The Bulldogs were able to keep the Wolves reeled in during the second half, but could never get over the hump as Schneider hit another pair of threes in the second half en route to a 14 point night to lead the Wolves.

 

Complmenting Schneider were 13 points from Nellis and 10 points from Claire Gerdmann. The Bulldogs were led by Jaycee Mullins' 14 points and eight points apiece from Peyton Michalski and Jadyn Jashinsky. 

Wolves girls throttle Blue Devils

The Algoma girls basketball team jumped out to a 35-11 halftime lead and never looked back in its 57-27 win over Oconto on Thursday.

 

The Wolves were hot from behind the arc in the first half, hitting nine three pointers in the frame including four from Reagan Schneider and three from Sadie Rikkola. They worked inside the arc in the second half with Lauren Loucks scoring all nine of her points after halftime.

 

Schneider led all scorers with 17 points while Jadyn Nellis and Rikkola added 10 points apiece and Claire Gerdmann contributed another eight points. Natalie Schlueter led the Blue Devils with 10 points. 

 

The Wolves hit the road again on Monday when they travel to Peshtigo for a 7 p.m. tip.

Wolves girls' basketball hosting Blue Devils

The Algoma girls' basketball team will host the Oconto Blue Devils on Thursday. Oconto is looking to rebound from a 52-50 loss to No. 7-ranked Bonduel.

 

The Wolves are coming off a 71-19 victory over Sturgeon Bay. Jadyn Nellis led Algoma with 19 points, while Lauren Loucks added 12 points and Ella Severinsen chipped in 11.

 

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Algoma Falls to 4th-ranked Team For Second Time in January

The new 4th ranked Kewaunee Storm defeated Algoma for it's second loss to a 4th-ranked team in January after being defeated by Reedsville on the 10th. 

Kewaunee remains undefeated and was led throughout the matchup by scoring from Diesel Bosdeck and Mason Kovals who combined for 32 points. The pair also accounted for 5 of the 7 three's made by the Storm. 

Algoma didn't go down without a fight as Griffen Robinson led the Wolves with 15 and Parker Lischka followed behind with 10 more. Similar to the Storm, the two had 4 of the team's 6 triples. 

Kewaunee strategically pulled away from Algoma in the game for the eventual win, 65-44. 

The Wolves will move onto N.E.W. Lutheran Thursday while Kewaunee will host Gibraltar. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. tip off. 

Wolves boys' basketball taking on No. 4-ranked Storm

The Algoma boys’ basketball team will host the No. 4-ranked team in Division 4, the Kewaunee Storm, on Tuesday. Kewaunee is undefeated at 11-0 and sits atop the Packerland Conference with a 6-0 conference record. Algoma enters at 10-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play, good for second place.

 

The Storm are coming off a 67-34 victory over Southern Door. Dane Harrell led Kewaunee with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, along with one assist and two steals. Conor Kilgore added 14 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block, while Baylor Elliott contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
The Wolves are also coming off a win, defeating Gibraltar 52-37. Parker Lishka led Algoma with 22 points. Lane Cochart and Charlie Prokash each scored nine.

 

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Wolves' girls rebound against Clippers Saturday

After their first conference loss of the season to Kewaunee, the Algoma Wolves' girls got right back on schedule taking down the Sturgeon Bay Clippers at home.

 

The quick turn-around had no impact for Algoma as they pounded the rock offensively and pulled away from Sturgeon Bay early in the first half. Algoma rebounds with the 71-19 victory and will prepare for another big matchup in the forecast.

 

Jadyn Nellis led the Wolves with 19 points while Lauren Loucks added 12 points and Ella Severinsen chipped in 11 points in the Wolves win. Reen Walker led the Clippers with five points while Regan Kasten and Prudence Goettelman each chipped in four points.

 

A home date with Oconto is on the schedule for Thursday at 7 p.m.

Lischka, Algoma boys power past Gibraltar on 105.1 The GOAT

Great defense led to good offense for the Algoma Wolves in the second half of its 52-37 win over Gibraltar in Fish Creek on Friday.

 

 

Both teams struggled to get their offense going, but a 7-0 run to start the game and a 5-0 run near the end of the half helped the Wolves build a 21-12 lead. Seven different Wolves players scored at least two points in the frame, led by Parker Lischka's seven points. Wyatt Bultman's prescence in the paint helped the Vikings keep the game close in the first half as he scored six points and had a couple blocks to turn away the Wolves' attack.

 

 

The Wolves' defense turned it up a notch in the second half, generating several fast break and set the stage for several easy plays at the hoop including Lischka's second dunk of the game. Unable to go inside, the Vikings had to rely on Aaron Brey's hot shooting as he hit four three-pointers in the second half. 

 

 

Lischka led all scorers with 22 points to pace the Wolves while Charlie Prokash and Lane Cochart added nine points apiece and Aidan Zeitler chipped in four points.

 

 

Brey scored all 15 of his points in the second half to lead the Vikings while Bultman registered 10 points and Kayin Jackson contributed eight points.

 

 

Both teams will play their next game against Kewaunee with Algoma hosting the Storm on Tuesday with Packerland supremacy on the line while Gibraltar will make the trip south on Friday. Tim Kowols will have the call for Friday's game on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first tip at 7 p.m.

 

Wolves boys clipped by Vikings

A rough second-half at the free throw line allowed Valders to sneak past Algoma 47-45 in non-conference boys basketball action on Monday.

 

The Wolves carried a 21-15 advantage into the second half, but missed 12 free throws after the break to allow the Vikings to close the gap and eventually the steal the game away. The Vikings kept one of the Wolves' leading scorer Parker Lischka in check as he tallied just seven points. Griffen Robinson led the Wolves with 15 points while Charlie Prokash added 11 points and Aidan Zeitler chipped in eight more. Mason Staudinger led all scorers with 18 points while Jacob Olson scored all 11 of his points in the decisive second half for the Vikings.

 

The Wolves will try to break their two-game skid on Friday when they travel to Fish Creek on Friday to face Gibraltar. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and 1051TheGOAT.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.

Algoma boys look for bounceback against Vikings

The Algoma's boys basketball team will be able to get back to work after its loss on Saturday with a game against Valders on Monday. 

 

The Wolves were outscored 33-15 in the first-half of its 68-49 loss to state-ranked Reedsville on Saturday. The Panthers had three players reach double-figures, including 21 points from Ben Prochnow. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Wolves.

 

The hosting Vikings are 3-7 on the season, winning two of their last five games. Mason Staudinger stirs the offensive drink for the Vikings, averaging 22.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg, and 3.6 apg to lead the team in all three categories.

 

Tip off in Valders is set for 7 p.m.

Algoma loses on the road as Reedsville controls pace from opening tip

The Reedsville Panthers led wire to wire defeating Algoma Saturday night. 

Reedsivlle controlled to the tune of 33-15 at halftime. Coming out of the break, the Wolves went on a run bringing it back to within 7 with 12 minutes left, but they couldn't sustain the run. 

Algoma would go on a short drought while Reedsville continued to pound the ball inside and defeated the Wolves 68-49. 

It's just Algoma's second loss on the season (9-2) and they'll have a second non-conference road came in a row on Monday January 12 against Valders at 7 p.m. 

Wolves don't mess around with Vikings at home

Algoma started out strong and controlled the pace throughout taking the win 63-20 as they defended their home court Friday night. 

Freshman Reagan Schnider for the Wolves led all scorers with 15 including a trio of 3-pointers. Azucena Jauregui grabbed 10 as the only one in double-figures for the Vikings. 

Gibraltar has sprinkled wins throughout their season and heading into Algoma has played just three games since their last win against Southern Door December 16. They'll get a break from local play hosting Stockbridge January 13 with an earlier 6 p.m. tip off. 

On the other hand, Algoma (7-5) will take on Kewaunee January 13 in a big Packerland conference matchup as both hold 5-0 records in games against conference foes this season.

Wolves boys' basketball facing the fourth-ranked Panthers

The Algoma boys’ basketball team is preparing for this Saturday as they are set to host the #4-ranked Reedsville Panthers. The Panthers are sitting at 8-0 thus far into the season, their last outing saw them beat Howards Grove 65-57. The Wolves are 9-1, looking to build off a 59-41 victory over Crivitz. Leading the way for the Wolves was Braeden Leist with 21 points, followed by Parker Lishcka with 17. 
    Saturday’s tip-off is at 7:15 PM. 
 

Wolves girls' basketball hosting Vikings

    The Algoma girls’ basketball team is playing at home this Friday, taking on the Gibraltar Vikings. The Vikings are looking to bounce back from a 43-34 loss to Sturgeon Bay. Azucena Jauregui led the scoring with 8 points, followed by Celeste Jauregui, Megan Schar, Emilie Glocke, and Gabriella Soloman, all with 6 apiece. The Wolves look to build off a 67-39 victory over Two Rivers. Paving the way for the Wolves was Jadyn Nellis with 15 points, Claire Gerdmann with 14, and Sadie Rikkola with 12 points. 
    Friday’s tip-off is at 6:00 PM.
 

Wolves boys bounce Wolverines

The Algoma boys basketball team kept their winning ways rolling on Thursday night, beating Crivitz at home 59-41.

 

The Wolverines proved to be a worthy opponent for the Wolves in the first half, taking an early advantage and bringing a 25-22 advantage with them into the locker room. Kade and Landon Thoma did their part to ensure that would happen for the Wolverines as they combined to score 18 points, but the Wolves ensured they would not do that in the second half. The pair mustered just two points the rest of the way as the Wolves blew past the Wolverines in the second half, outscoring them 37-19. Braeden Leist tallied 12 of his game-high 21 points in the second half while Parker Lischka joined him in double-figures with 17 points. Kade Thoma led the Wolverines with 13 points on the night

 

The Wolves will be tested once again on Saturday when they travel to undefeated Reedsville for a 7:15 p.m. tip.

Wolves boys' basketball taking on Wolverines

The Algoma boys’ basketball team is preparing for this Thursday's matchup on home court against Crivitz. The Wolverines are coming off a massive 74-25 victory over Wausaukee. While the Wolves are looking to continue their success as well, having won their past six games. Most recently beating Sturgeon Bay 59-51 on Tuesday. Parker Lischka led the way for the Wolves with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Braeden Liest added 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal, and Charlie Prokash sprinkled in 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and a block. 
    Thursday’s tip-off is at 7:00 PM. 
 

Wolves Survive Battle with Clippers on U102.1

he Sturgeon Bay Clippers gave the Algoma Wolves a strong challenge Tuesday night on the Wolves’ home court, but the home team eventually came away with a 59-51 victory, broadcast on U102.1.

 

The first half featured a back-and-forth battle, with each team taking turns leading and no advantage growing larger than five points. Sturgeon Bay won the opening tip, scored on the first possession and held the lead for much of the half, thanks in part to a strong performance by Ben Ash, who led the Clippers with 10 first-half points.

 

Algoma’s first lead came at 14-12. The Wolves did not hit a single 3-point shot in the first half, with Braeden Leist leading the team with 10 points. Algoma took a slim 23-22 lead into halftime and would receive the opening possession of the second half.

The duo of Leist and Parker Lischka made it difficult for the Clippers to fully catch up in the second half, as each scored in double figures after the break. Ben Ash and Rylan Ruenger also finished with double-digit second halves for Sturgeon Bay. Algoma led throughout the second half, with its advantage growing to as many as 11 points before shrinking back to a single point.

 

With the Wolves holding a four-point lead late, a key turning point came at the free-throw line, where Algoma had struggled throughout the night. Up to that point, the Wolves were 2-for-7 from the line. Charlie Prokash stepped to the line in a bonus situation and made both free throws, effectively sealing the win.

 

Lischka led the Wolves with 22 points, followed by Leist with 20 and Prokash with 10. The Clippers were led by Ash, who finished with 20 points, and Ruenger with 14.

Algoma hits the road Thursday for a matchup with Crivitz. Sturgeon Bay returns home Saturday evening to face the Gibraltar Vikings.

Wolves girls ride big first-half to win over Raiders

A 43-15 halftime advantage provided more than enough cushion for the Algoma girls' basketball team's 67-39 win over Two Rivers on Monday.

 

Triggering the first-half blowout was Jadyn Nellis, who scored 13 of her team-high 15 points in the opening period while five other players scored at least five points in the frame. The two teams played level in the second half with more Raiders players getting into the act offensively. 

 

In addition to Nellis' 15 points, Claire Gerdmann scored 14 points Sadie Rikkola registered 12 points, and Lauren Loucks chipped in eight points. Rylee Timm led all Raiders with 14 points.

 

The Wolves try to improve to 6-0 in conference Friday night and set up a first-place battle with Kewaunee when they host Gibraltar at 6 p.m.

Wolves girls prepare for Raiders

The Algoma girls basketball team will keep things non-conference on Monday when they face Two Rivers at home on Monday.

 

In their 45-27 loss to Luxemburg-Casco, Claire Gerdmann scored seven first-half points, but was held to just a free throw in the second half as she matched Jadyn Nellis for a team-high eight points. Theresa Gerdmann added six points and Sadie Rikkola pitched in five points in the Wolves' loss. The game snapped a season-long three-game winning streak for the Wolves.

 

Allie Gallagher (10.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.8 apg) leads a Raiders squad that has lost four of its last five games, including a 74-58 decision to Sheboygan Christian its last time out.

 

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
