Leist brothers, Lischka help Wolves boys topple Blue Devils

The Algoma boys basketball team got over 20 points from both Braeden Leist and Parker Lischka in its 68-50 win over Oconto on Thursday night.

 

Lischka was balanced in his approach as he scored 10-plus points in both halves to register 23 points on the night. The Wolves were able to come out of the locker room at halftime with a 34-27 advantage, which was when Leist took over. He scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half, which helped the Wolves keep pace with the Blue Devils' Carter Koch discovering his groove in the second half. Carson Leist scored nine points and Chase Romdenne added eight points in the win for the Wolves. The Blue Devils were led by Koch's 16 points, while Cooper Campshure was good for 13 points.

Algoma boys trim Blazers on the road

The Algoma Wolves upended the NEW Lutheran Blazers in Green Bay Tuesday night 66-59. 

 

The Wolves led the Blazers 29-27 at halftime and were able to hang on for the win.

 

Parker Lischka led the way for Algoma with 27 points and Chase Romdenne added 23 more as the Wolves improved to 6-2 in Packerland Conference and 10-4 overall.

 

The Wolves will host the Oconto Blue Devils on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Algoma High School.

 

Wolves boys throttle Vikings, face Blazers Tuesday

The Algoma Wolves boys basketball team outscored Valders 40-22 in the second half to secure the 69-49 win Monday night. 

 

The Wolves's Parker Lischka scored 11 of his team-high 26 points in the first half to help stake the Wolves to a slim two-point lead at the break. Five different players scored six points or more in the second half to start the rout. In addition to Lischka's 26 points, Chase Romdenne posted 12 points, Braeden Leist added 11 points, and both Charlie Prokash and Cody Kirchman chipped in 10 points. Will Sieracki scored 19 points and two others registered 11 points in the Vikings' loss.

 

The Wolves are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Green Bay to face NEW Lutheran at 7:15 p.m. The Blazers are trying to snap a four-game losing streak and earn their first victory since January 10th.

Algoma boys open week vs. Valders

After the cold locked them out a week ago, the Algoma Wolves boys basketball team will make up its game against Valders on Monday night. 

 

The Wolves had their four-game winning streak snapped on Friday in a 66-46 loss to county rival Kewaunee. Parker Lischka's 12 first-half points helped the Wolves get to the intermission with a 25-23 lead. The Storm flipped the script in the second half, outscoring the Wolves 41-19 thanks to seven three-pointers. Lischka slowed down in the second half, but still led the Wolves with 16 points. Chase Romdenne and Braden Leist each added 10 points for the Wolves in the loss.

 

The Vikings snapped a five-game losing skid in its last game, outscoring Chilton by 20 in the first half en route to a 72-49 win. Will Sieracki leads the Vikings with 20 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Teammate Mason Staudinger also nearly averages a double-double a game with 10.9 ppg and 7.3 rpg.

 

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Algoma. The Wolves are set to for a quick turnaround with a game against NEW Lutheran tomorrow.

Wolves girls pull away from Thunderhawks

The Algoma Wolves girls basketball team outscored Oneida Nation 35-19 in the second half to earn the 58-40 win on Saturday afternoon.

 

The two teams played tight in the first half, with the Wolves taking just a two-point lead into the break. Claire Gerdmann led the Wolves' attack in the second half, scoring 10 of her team-high 14 points after the break. Brooke Mattson hit three three-pointers en route to a 13-point afternoon, while Therese Gerdmann chipped in eight points. Mariah Cloud paced the Thunderhawks with 16 points.

Algoma boys blast Gibraltar

The Algoma boys basketball shot it well from distance and clamped down defensively on Gibraltar to win the game 71-43.

 

The Wolves outscored the Vikings 37-20 in the first half to set the tone for the rest of the game. They hit five of their 12 three-pointers in the first half to give themselves some space from the Vikings. Carson Leist led the way with 18 points while Braden Leist added 14 points, Parker Lischka scored 13 points, and Chase Romdenne chipped in 10 points in the Wolves' win. Kayin Jackson used his penetrating style of play to pile up plenty of free throw attempts in the second half en route to a 23 point afternoon. Liam Lindenberg added 12 points in part to two of the Vikings' six threes.

Wolves girls singe Blazers

The Algoma girls basketball team was able to make a 27-10 halftime lead stick as they beat NEW Lutheran 42-35 on Friday night.

 

Jaydyn Nellis and Lauren Loucks ensured the Wolves started on the right foot with a combined 15 points. That early lead would be needed as the Blazers made a strong bid for an upset in the second half, outscoring the Wolves 25-15 after the break.

 

Nellis ended her night with 12 points while Loucks and Slaby added 10 points in the Wolves win. Lexi Meerstein paced the Blazers with 13 points.

Algoma boys blow past NEWCHAA

The Algoma Wolves had three players with more than 15 points in their 80-65 win over NEWCHAA.

 

The Wolves held a 45-31 lead at the break thanks to Braden Leist, Charlie Prokash, Chase Romdenne, Parker Lischka, and Cody Kirchman score at least seven first half points.  Lischka ended his night with a game-high 27 points while Leist added 19 points and Romdenne chipping in 16 points. NEWCHAA had four players of its own in double-figures led by Carter Frisque's 15 points. Isaiah Henselin added 13 points and Caleb Jackson and Thomas O'Donahue each had ten in the NEWCHAA loss. 

Algoma girls topple Mishicot

The Algoma girls' basketball team got back into the win column on Monday night, beating Mishicot at home 68-43.

 

The Wolves hit five three-pointers in the first half en route to a 41-18 lead at the break. Nora Krause paced the charge with three of those five three-pointers as she piled up 13 first-half points. The Indians were able to stop Krause in the second half, but her teammates were able to pick up where she left off, as she was one of four players in double figures. Bristol Schmidt led the way with 15 points, with Therese Gerdmann adding 12 and Brooke Mattson contributing 10 points. The Indians' Karsyn Krause did her part to keep her team in the game, going 12-15 from the line en route to a 22-point game. Anna Cisler chipped in eight points in the loss for the Indians.

Wolves girls look for bounceback vs. Mishicot

The Algoma Wolves girls basketball team will waste no time trying to get the taste of Saturday's loss out of their mouth when they host Mishicot on Monday night.

 

Kewaunee's defense clamped down on the Wolves on Saturday afternoon, leading to a 66-33 win to take control of the Packerland Conference. No Wolves cracked double figures in the contest, with Sierra Slaby's eight points and Bristol Schmidt's six points leading the way in the loss. 

 

The Indians have rebounded from a 0-5 start to get their record to 5-7 overall thanks to a three-game winning streak heading into Monday. Kensi Rosenow scored 25 points, and Karsyn Krause posted 20 points and 16 rebounds in the Indians' 58-47 win over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in their last game.

 

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Wolves Outlast Clippers 54-49 on U-102.1

In a Friday night game tied at 25 a piece at halftime, it would be the hometown Algoma Wolves claiming victory over the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 54-49.

 

It was a back-and-forth game, with each team having leads of over 5 points. The leading scorer of the game was Parker Lischka, the only Wolve in double digits in the points column. He led the scoring in each half for either team. He had 17 in the first and added 10 more in the second. Carsen Leist was the next highest Wolve with 8.

 

The one place the Clippers let themselves down was the free-throw line, where they shot a combined 2-10 from the charity stripe. Jackson Star went 2 for 7 from the free-throw line, scoring his team's second-highest 12 points, trailing Ben Ash, who finished with 13.

 

The Clippers' next matchup is a Tuesday home matchup with Gibraltar, which will be broadcast on 105.1 The GOAT. On Thursday night, Algoma will face NEWCHAA in Algoma.

Wolves cruise past Truckers

The Algoma Wolves came away with a convincing 69-38 win over the Clintonville Truckers in non-conference play on Tuesday night on the road.  The Wolves took a big 32-17 lead into halftime and never looked back.  Parker Lischka led Algoma with 19 points, Chase Romdenne added 13 more, and Braeden Leist chipped in 10 more.

Jaxson Baribeau paced the Truckers with 15 points on five three-pointers.

Algoma will now host Sturgeon Bay on Friday night, with a tip-off at 7 p.m.
