Algoma High School Archives for 2020-05

DKHS.com's Champion of Champions Series: 2017 Algoma Girls' Track and Field

Behind the strength of its field events, the Algoma girl's track team won its first only state track title in 2017.

The Wolves edged Edgar High School 44-42 in the D3 scoring column thanks to several strong individual efforts. Elizabeth McClure won the high jump with a height of 5'06" while Morgan Davister and Katelyn Williams had top-five peformances in both shot put and discus. McClure also took sixth in pole vault.  The Wolves also took care of things on the track with Davister and Williams anchoring a 4 x 100M relay team that took fifth in the state with Khloe Williams and Courtney Guillette joining them on the squad. Alli Spitzer took ninth in the mile with a time of 5:24.

Algoma Baseball Senior Day: Gavin Miller

It has been our pleasure to have Gavin out for baseball.  He sets a good example of what hard work can do, especially in his training for football.  He gained a lot of strength by hitting the weights along with increased speed and agility by spending numerous hours in the Wellness Center.  It is great to have an athlete so dedicated to football come out and give baseball a try.  He has been fun to have on the team and we are hopeful Gavin is a trailblazer for other hard working athletes to take on new challenges.

Algoma Baseball Senior Day: Justin Dragosh

As a junior, Justin jumped head first into the Varsity Baseball program.  As expected, a late start did not phase Justin.  He is one of those players you wish you had one more year to work with.  Justin made so much progress and had a lot of momentum, energy, and excitement coming into his senior season.  He worked extremely hard and became one of our most coachable athletes.  Justin possess the perfect combination for an AHS baseball player; reliable, dependable, punctual, and team oriented.  The coaching staff is saddened for this loss of opportunity, but grateful for his contributions.  We expect big things for Justin in his future.

Algoma Baseball Senior Day: Bryce Duerst

Bryce came into spring with high excitement and expectations.   He planned open gyms, utilized the weight room, and worked hard in the off-season to prepare for his final season.    Bryce is the type of leader that I hope others aspire to be like.   His personality, enthusiasm, work ethic, and passion was second to none.   Bryce has certain intangibles that cannot be replaced.

During the off-season, after working double shifts on Charter boats, Bryce would always find time to volunteer helping the Youth program on weekends as well as umpire little league games on weeknights.

There is no question; Bryce will be a future leader someday.  The coaching staff could not be more proud to call Bryce our Team Captain.

Algoma's Dier wins lip sync challenge

It was not the dance Algoma alum Anna Dier thought she would win when she committed to UW-Green Bay, but she will graduate a champion nonetheless.

Dier upended Hailey Oskey in the first-ever Phoenix Lip-Sync Championship, outdoing the sophomore with a version of “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” by Steam that once around took viewers in and around Algoma.

Dier and Luxemburg-Casco alum Cassie Schlitz joined their teammates in a wrap-up version of “We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical.
