Wolves track set for another meet at Oconto Falls

An overall successful start to the season for the Algoma Wolves Track and Field team will continue when they compete at the Oconto Falls Indoor Meet.

The field events have been the strong suits of the Wolves team this season, but the runners will look to turn that into their favor on Tuesday. Freshman Brennan Buckman has led the Wolves in the 60 and 200 meter dash so far this young season.

Algoma will be competing against Gibraltar, Gillett, Oconto Falls and Suring. The first events will begin at 4:00 P.M.

It appears the Algoma track team's success will lean on its field events after a strong showing by the specialists at the Princeton/Green Lake Invitational hosted by Ripon College Friday night.

For the boys, Mason Melohn posted a personal record in the shot put, as did Braden Crewe in the high jump and Austin Miller in the pole vault. The girls stuck together for Algoma with Emily Kirchman and Faith Gerdmann finished 2 and 3 in the shootout. Vivika Meverden finished in the top five in high jump.

Algoma Track and Field heads to Ripon Friday after strong start at Oshkosh

The Algoma Track and Field Boys Team will have two meets in two days after competing at UW-Oshkosh on Thursday.

Part of our boys competed at UW Oshkosh last night. Leading the boys in points was Senior Austin Miller placing 2nd in the pole vault, his first medal. Getting 5th in the 3200m run was Sophomore Alex Kirchman, his first medal also. Junior Mason Melohn 7th in shot and senior Cole Younk finished 8th, both with career-bests.

The Wolves have a quick turnaround heading to Ripon for another indoor invite on Friday. They will face Living Word Lutheran, Valley Christian, Kewaunee, Cedar Grove-Belgium, Hustisford, Laconia, Markesan, Mayville, Palmyra-Eagle, Columbus, Tri-County, Weyauwega Fremont and Reedsville.

Wolves hope for positive spring season outlook

After a successful Winter sports season from the Wolves, Algoma will look to carry that momentum into the spring season whenever it gets underway.

Last year's baseball season saw Algoma finish with a 5-13 record overall, and going 3-5 in conference play. The team could be returning all three of their Packerland All-Conference selections, with Chase Romdenne as a 2nd team infielder being their highest nominated player from last season. With only two seniors on the 2022 team, Algoma could be primed for a breakout season in the Packerland.

The Wolves softball team sits in the same position as the baseball team, potentially returning every member of the 2022 team but two graduating seniors. Algoma finished 5th in the Packerland conference last season at 6-6, and their overall record was 7-9. The Wolves lose their 2nd Team All-Conference pitcher Rylee Fenendael but will still potentially have Ryley Zimmerman and Sierra Slaby to lead the Wolves.

The Algoma track team will look to improve on their times from last season as well, after the boys and girls teams finished 8th at the Packerland Conference meet in 2022. The Wolves will welcome back 2nd place finisher in the 100 meter dash Kaden Vardon on the boys side and on the girls side Emily Kirchman who finished 2nd in the Shot Put will return as well.

The spring season could shake up to be an overall success for the Wolves of Algoma.
