Blahnik adds more hardware in discus

Algoma's Bobbi Blahnik found herself on the medal stand a second time on Thursday at the Division 3 State Meet in LaCrosse.

Her best throw of the day was her first one, netting her a toss of 110-0 feet. That was good for second place after the first toss. Blahnik would go on to scratch three times while trying to best that distance, getting as far as 107-10 feet. Blahnik earlier in the day won second place in shot put.

It was the second time she double-medaled at the state meet, having taken 3rd place and 8th place in the shot put and discus respectively in 2019.

Blahnik earns silver at state

Algoma will be leaving Lacrosse this weekend with a thrower on the podium as Bobbi Blahnik came away with second place in the Division 3 girls shot put on Thursday. Blahnik out-threw her rank, coming in the third seed. She got the second place mark with a throw of 39-8.00. Blahnik was just under four feet shy of the championship mark.

Blahnik also competed in the discus on Thursday, and placed sixth. She came into that event ranked third as well. With the double-event performance at the state meet including being near the top in shot put, Blahnik’s season comes to an end.

Algoma's Blahnik carries tradition to state

The Blahnik family name is already well known before Bobbi ever picks up a discus or a shotput at the Division 3 State Track Meet on Thursday.

Blahnik is ranked third in both the shot put (38-06.00) and the discus (115-05). She'll be pushed not just by the best throwers in the state during second flight, but also by history. Her big sister Kennedy holds the state record in both events (49-01.50 shot put, 161-00.50 discus)  and her dad Dean has been coaching track for decades.

The field events begin at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Algoma's softball season ends in heartbreaker

The Algoma Wolves took to extra innings to decide a winner in their WIAA playoff game on Wednesday. However, the Wolves fell to Lola-Scandinavia by a final score of 4-3. With the loss, Algoma’s season is now complete. Their season ended with a 10-11 overall record.

Algoma throwers in comfortable position at sectionals

Shot put and discus rings at sectionals have been a home away from home for Algoma track and field athletes in recent years.

Thursday's sectional in Rosholt will be no exception thanks to Bobbi Blahnik. She bested the discus field by 10 feet (108 ft) and the shot put field by more than two feet (40 ft 11 inches) to win a pair of regional titles in Hilbert on Tuesday.

She will be the lone member of the Wolves competing on Thursday when the first events in Rosholt begin at 3:30 p.m.

Algoma hosts Crandon in regional opener

The Algoma Wolves softball team looks to keep their season alive at home when they host Crandon in the WIAA Regional opener.

The Wolves come into the matchup 9-10 overall on the season, ending the regular season campaign going 4-1 in their last five matchups. Hannah Wiese led the way offensively this season for the Wolves, compiling a .429 battering average and driving in 16 runs. The Cardinals have won three of its last eight games, including an 8-6 victory over Manawa in its season finale.

The two teams meet in Algoma at 4:30 p.m.

Baseball: Wolves drop regular season finale

The Algoma baseball regular season ended with a non-conference home loss to Hilbert/Stockbridge on Monday. Algoma put up seven runs, which was a season-high, but could not slow down Hilbert/Stockbridge’s hitting attack. The final score was 17-7. Algoma went the regular season without being able to get in the win column but has a chance to change that on Thursday. The Wolves play Kewaunee in the WIAA Playoffs on Thursday at 5:00 PM. The teams played on May 8th, and Kewaunee won 14-0.

Blahnik captures shot put title at Packerlands

Bobbi Blahnik won the shot put and discus titles on Monday's Packerland Conference meet to lead the Algoma Wolves in Peshtigo.

Her throws of 41-01 in the shot put and 109-03 in the discus were both season records.

Softball: Algoma dominates in road win

The Algoma Wolves softball team has been on opposite ends of shutouts in their last two games. On Tuesday, they were on the right side, beating Green Bay NEW Lutheran 16-0. Algoma is now 5-4 in conference play, and guaranteed to finish at least .500. Algoma has a chance to end their regular season on a winning streak, when they take on Sevastopol on Friday. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.

Baseball: Wolves outlasted in pitching duel

Algoma fell just short of their first win of the season on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 loss at Green Bay NEW Lutheran. A trio of runs scored by the Blazers in the bottom of the fifth inning would be the backbreaker for Algoma. Algoma gets another shot for their first win on Thursday and Friday when they have a homestand against Oconto and then Sevastopol.

Baseball: Wolves hunt for first win over Blazers

On Tuesday, Algoma baseball will have a chance to avenge a three run loss from two weeks ago. Algoma, still in the hunt for their first win, face Green Bay NEW Lutheran on Tuesday. NEW Lutheran’s lone win of the season was a 6-3 victory over the Wolves on May 14th. First pitch for Tuesday’s game with the Wolves and Blazers will start at 5:00 PM with the Blazers hosting.

Softball: Algoma comes off a weeks rest against Blazers

Since their Thursday matchup with Oconto was postponed, the Algoma Wolves will have their first game in eight days when they meet up with Green Bay NEW Lutheran on Tuesday evening. It is the second meeting between the two teams who also played on May 13th, with the Wolves getting the 15-0 victory. Algoma has an overall record of 6-9, most recently getting downed 10-0 at Kewaunee. NEW Lutheran continues to play for their first win of the season. The Blazers will host the game on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 PM.
