Neenah doubles up Wolves softball

The Algoma Wolves' softball team found themselves in a deep hole early in its 6-3 loss to Neenah.

 

Rylee Fenendael was the pitcher of record, giving up five of the six runs in the first two innings before allowing a single tally in the fourth inning. 

 

Down 6-0 in the fifth inning, the Wolves staged a rally with Olivia Cabino starting things off with a RBI single. Her stolen base allowed Kennedy Neuzil to swipe home before Brooke Mattson's own RBI single scored Cabino.

 

The loss ended the Wolves' day at the Pulaski Invitational. 

Spartans golf finish 11th in Valders

Matt Zellner broke 100 as Luxemburg-Casco's golf team came in 11th place at Valders Par 3 Invitational.

 

The Spartans took 11th place with a score of 443. The winner was Sheboygan Falls with a score of 272. The low score belonged to Roncalli's John Oberbroeckling with a 64.

Wolves baseball lose to Hilbert

Jack Cole's run in the seventh inning was all Algoma could muster in a 6-1 loss to Hilbert Friday night.

 

Hilbert's Sam Bradley, Parker Kleppen, and Coltin Casper all had two hits as they scored in four of their six offensive innings. Carson Grenzer stumped the Wolves over six innings, striking out nine while just giving up three hits.  

Mattson, Borths pace Algoma track teams at Oconto Falls

The Algoma Wolves track team had two event winners at Thursday's track invite hosted by Oconto Falls.

 

Algoma's Morgan Mattson won the 100m dash and took third in 300m hurdles. Emily Kirchman just missed out on gold with a second and third place finish in the shot put and discus events. Logan Borths spun his way to wins in the 100m, 400m, and 800m events as a wheelchair athlete.

Track athletes take advantage of sunny skies in Algoma

The Packerland Conference Relays meet at Algoma featured the best weather the teams have experienced all season long.

Wolves softball shuts out Clippers

The Algoma softball team put up crooked numbers in three different innings to cruise past Sturgeon Bay 7-0.

 

The Wolves scored twice in both the third and fourth innings and three times in the sixth inning while Rylee Fenendal allowed just three hits and struck out 15 to shut down the Clippers. Rylee Zimmermann and Sierra Slaby recorded the RBI for the Wolves in the win.

Algoma baseball, softball battles Sturgeon Bay

The Algoma Wolves' baseball and softball teams will stay close to home on Thursday when they host Sturgeon Bay Thursday.

 

Carson Leist had 10 strikeouts while Spencer Haack, Javen Charles, Carson Lischka, Jordan Fenendael, and Chase Romdenne all drove in runs in Tuesday's 6-5 Wolves' baseball win over Peshtigo on Tuesday. The Clippers' game against NEW Lutheran had to be suspended with the score 1-1.

 

in Softball, the Wolves lost their first game of the season to Peshtigo 4-3 while the Clippers dropped their game to NEW Lutheran 11-4.

 

The doubleheader begins at 4:30 p.m.

Algoma hosts conference relays meet

It is relays only Thursday afternoon when Algoma hosts the entire Packerland Conference for the annual meet.

 

The meet featuring Algoma, Gibraltar, Kewaunee, NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy, Oconto, Peshtigo, Sevastopol, Southern Door, and Sturgeon Bay begins at 3:30 p.m. with the field events and the track action at 4 p.m. 

 

The meet features some unique events that you will only see at relay meets such as the 3x1600m, sprint medley featuring three different distances, and the 3x100m throwers relay.

Algoma baseball, softball head to Peshtigo

The Algoma Wolves baseball and sofftball teams head to Peshtigo for their first games of the season.

 

The baseball team has had its first two games either postponed or canceled while the softball team has had it happened three times so far this season.

 

The Bulldogs' softball team is in the same boat as Algoma's teams, but the baseball team has been able to get three games in, including a 9-4 win last week against Sevastopol.

 

Games begin at 5 p.m. with the softball matchup consisting of a doubleheader. 

Zimmerman steps down as Algoma basketball coach

For the first time since the 2017-2018 season, Algoma will have to look for a new basketball coach.

 

Mark Miller from the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook shared on Twitter Wednesday afternoon that Corie Zimmerman was stepping down from the position of head basketball coach. He had a career record of 19-89 in his five seasons at the helm. the move times out with the graduation of his son Carter, who set the all-time scoring record in Algoma High School history this season.

Field events pace Algoma at Gibraltar meet

The Algoma Wolves track team had a number of strong performances in their meet that also featured Kewaunee, Gibraltar, and Sevastopol on Tuesday in Fish Creek.

 

For the boys, Mason Melohn won the discus while Morgan Mattson (triple jump) and Veronica Ramirez (pole vault).
