Marinette wasted little time taking control Tuesday, scoring just 28 seconds into the match as the Marines went on to defeat Algoma 6-1.

Jackson Mahers opened the scoring for Marinette, and the Marines never trailed or let up from there. Marinette found the back of the net four times in the opening half to build a 4-1 advantage.

Algoma answered with its lone goal from Cooper Krause, who converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Wolves could not get any closer, though, as Marinette added two more goals in the second half to close out the 6-1 victory.

Algoma will have Wednesday off before returning to action Thursday at Kewaunee, its third game in four days.

The Algoma volleyball team overcame a stumble in the second set to beat Chilton Monday night 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-23, 25-14).

The Wolves were led by Sadie Rikkola (12 Kills, 3 Aces, 20 Receptions), Lauren Loucks (11 Kills, 2 Aces, 13 Receptions), Natalie Ray (9 Kills, 20 Receptions, 17 Digs), Bristol Schmidt (2 Blocks, 5 Kills), Aleasha Granius (2 Aces, 26 Assists), Eva Liu (1 Ace, 18 Receptions, 22 Digs), and Mackenzie Lischka (19 Assists).

The Wolves are back in action on Thursday when they return to Packerland Conference play at Sturgeon Bay.

The Algoma soccer team will have a chance to show their short memory when they travel to Marinette to face the Marines.

The Wolves dropped their Packerland Conference match to Gibraltar/Sevastopol on Monday, 2-0. 

The Marines enter the match 5-1-2, with their last loss coming Saturday, a 3-0 defeat to Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah. 

Tuesday's match begins at 4:30 p.m.

The Algoma volleyball kicks off the week with a non-conference match at home on Monday night when Chilton pays a visit to the Fulwiler Fieldhouse.

The Wolves went 1-6 last week with a 2-1 win against Two Rivers as their lone highlight. In Thursday's triangular, the Wolves fell to Heritage Christian 25-17, 25-20, Sheboygan Christian 25-15, 25-18, and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 25-16, 14-25, 15-10. During Saturday's invitational, the Wolves lost to Valley Christian 19-25, 25-17, 16-14; to Crivitz 25-16, 25-22; and to Sevastopol 25-18, 25-21.

The Tigers are 10-11 entering Monday's match and fresh off losses to Green Bay Preble and Stevens Point.

The first serve is set for 7 p.m.

Algoma continued its strong start to the season Friday night, shutting out Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 44-0 to move to 5-1 on the season.

The Wolves have now won two straight and have found their rhythm offensively heading into one of their biggest games of the season. Algoma will welcome Sevastopol, also 5-1, on Friday, Oct. 2, with major conference standing implications on the line.

Both teams enter the matchup with just one loss, and both came against the same opponent, Valley Christian. With the regular season winding down, the meeting between the Wolves and Pioneers could play a major role in the Packerland-8 standings.

Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah falls to 4-3 with the loss.

A small, but mighty Algoma cross country team traveled to Mishicot on Thursday for the Jim Bremser Invitational.

Brayden Brumm was the lone Wolf on the boys side, finishing in 22:52 to take 171st. For the girls, Ellie Reif ran a time of 22:43 to lead the girls.

The Algoma football team will hit the road once again on Friday when they play the Resorters at Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah.

The Wolves defeated Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence 36-20 at Perry Park, improving to 4-1 on the season. Algoma used a strong offensive performance to pull away from NEW and earn its fourth win of the season. Ethan Melotte had 50 passing yards on just two completions but rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns to run past the Blazers. Jack Meverden and Calvin Mayheu also scored as the Wolves outrushed the Resorters 349-27.

The Resorters are 4-2 on the season and got back into the win column last Friday with a 33-0 win over Oneida Nation. Cole Wagner has 761 yards and 14 touchdowns through the air, while Matthew Schukow (190 yards) and Cole Wagner (150 yards) offer balance in the backfield. 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Algoma soccer team travels around the bay to Peshtigo for a return to Packerland Conference action on Thursday. 

Both teams are coming off losses to Sturgeon Bay in their most recent action. The Wolves fell to the Clippers 4-0 last Thursday while the Bulldogs dropped their contest 10-0 to the Clippers after just 40 minutes.

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

The Algoma volleyball team travels to Sheboygan Christian on Thursday for a triangular meet featuring the host school, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah and Heritage Christian.

The Wolves are coming off a great weekend where they avenged their conference loss to Gibraltar 25-14, 24-26, 15-13 and toppled Central Wisconsin Christian 25-21, 11-25, 15-6 after starting last Saturday with a loss to host Hilbert 25-16, 25-27, 10-15.

The first match begins at 5 p.m.

Algoma was swept by Gibraltar by scores of 25-20, 25-16, 25-9. The Wolves were led by Lauren Loucks (5 Kills, 2 Aces), Natalie Ray (6 Kills, 7 Digs, 28 Receptions), Sadie Rikkola (4 Kills, 14 Digs, 12 Receptions), Eva Liu (7 Digs, 16 receptions), Aleasha Granius (10 Assists, 1 Kill), and Mackenzie Lischka (10 Assists, 2 Digs). The Vikings were led by Azucena Jauregui (7 kills, 3 aces, 1 block kill), Ella Clarke (8 kills, 1 block kill, .467 hitting efficiency), Aileen Torres (7 kills, 7 digs), Isla Fagundes (20 assists, 4 kills, 1 ace, 1 block kill), and Ema Collak (4 kills, 5 aces).

Central Wisconsin Christian, Mishicot, Roncalli, and Wittenberg-Birnamwood will also compete when the first matches begin at 8 a.m.

The Algoma football team looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season on Friday when they host NEW Lutheran.

In a battle of ranked teams, the Wolves fell to Valley Christian 31-14. Ethan Melotte was limited to just 12 yards through the air and had to work hard to gain 79 yards on 26 carries without a score. Jacob Blahnik rushed for 78 yards and a score, while Jack Meverden scored the other on 44 yards rushing. Brady Walker led the defense with 14 tackles and a sack.

The Blazers shut out their old co-op mates, Oneida Nation, 32-0 after falling to Sevastopol 50-18 the previous week.

Kickoff from Perry Park is set for 7 p.m.

Algoma's Charlie Prokash will continue his baseball career, committing to play Bryan & Stratton College in Wauwatosa.

Prokash was All-Packerland Conference first team as a pitcher during his freshman and junior years and a second team performer during his sophomore season. Prokash was also a contributor to this year's Door County League playoff champion Kolberg, driving in a run in the team's 10-9 win over Sister Bay.

The Bobcats play at the NJCAA Division II level in Region 4.

The Algoma volleyball team returns to Packerland Conference play on Thursday with a home match against Gibraltar.

The Wolves are coming off a sweep at the hands of Kewaunee, falling to their rivals 25-15, 25-21, 25-17. The team is looking for its first win since beating Two Rivers 2-0 and their first set win since falling to Reedsville on August 28th.

The Vikings played as many as four divisions up on Saturday as they went 1-3 in the Ashwaubenon Jaguar Classic. The Vikings started the day with a win over Division 2 Antigo (13-25, 25-16, 15-13) before losing to D1 Ashwaubenon (17-25, 20-25), D3 Wrightstown (20-25, 10-25), and D1 Menasha (20-25, 18-25). 

First serve is set for 7 p.m.

The Algoma soccer team will try to add to the win column again on Tuesday after dropping its Monday contest to Providence Academy 4-1.

The loss snapped a four-match winning streak that started after they lost to Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah 8-3 on August 25th.

Next up on the Wolves' schedule is Denmark, which is 3-2 on the season and snapped a two-match losing streak with an 8-0 win over Wrightstown. Landin Thiem leads the Vikings with six goals.

The Algoma soccer team will stay around town on Monday to welcome Providence Academy to its pitch.

The Wolves are coming off a 4-3 win over NEW Lutheran last Thursday, while the Paladins are coming off the high of beating Sturgeon Bay 3-2 last Thursday, snapping the Clippers' 40-plus Packerland Conference match-winning streak.

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

The Algoma cross country tackled the darkened hills of the Winagamie Golf Course on Friday as part of the Nightfall Classic 920 in Neenah.

Brayden was a lone wolf for the boys, running a time of 22:07. Ellie Reif ran a time of 22:17 to pace the girls' team with a 29th-place finish.

In a battle of two ranked teams, the Algoma football team suffered their first loss of the season on Friday, falling to Valley Christian 31-14.

Trailing 14-6 after the first quarter, the Wolves allowed the Warriors to score 10 unanswered points to lead 24-6 at the break. The Wolves outscored the Warriors 8-7 in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Head coach Wade Vandervest said after the game that the team made too many mistakes to overcome a quality opponent.

The Wolves are back in action on Friday when they host 3-1 NEW Lutheran at Perry Park at 7 p.m.

Valley Christian, 4-0, pulled away from Algoma, 3-1, on Friday night, handing the Wolves a 31-14 loss.
 

The Wolves got on the scoreboard first in the opening quarter, but Valley Christian answered with 14 points in the first and added 10 more in the second to take a 24-6 lead into halftime. Valley Christian continued to build its advantage in the third quarter, scoring seven more points to take a 31-14 lead.

Algoma fought to stay within striking distance, but the Wolves were unable to close the gap in the final quarter. Algoma's defense held Valley Christian scoreless in the fourth, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

The Wolves will look to bounce back next Friday when they host Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence at 7 p.m. at Perry Park.

The Algoma Wolves will face their stiffest test of the season thus far on Friday when they travel to Oshkosh to battle Valley Christian.

Ethan Melotte contributed to all six touchdowns in a 42-6 romp over Gibraltar on Thursday night for the Wolves. Melotte showed off his arm early with a 41-yard touchdown throw to Cooper Fay to make it 6-0 before he ran in for a score from five yards out on the next drive following a Vikings turnover to make it 12-0 in the first quarter. It was more of the same in the second quarter, but just from a little further out. Melotte connected with Fay on a third-and-long play for a 58-yard score following another forced fumble before cashing in on their final possession of the half on an eight-yard quarterback keeper. Melotte and the Wolves would extend the lead to 42-0 in the third quarter thanks to another pair of touchdown runs. Wolves head coach Wade Vandervest was happy with his team's effort and its ability to force the Vikings into some mistakes as they recovered three fumbles in the rout.

Similar to the Wolves, the Warriors have proven to be able to pile up the points, including a 59-0 win over Oneida Nation last week. Sam Gloudemans rushed for 145 yards on eight carries and caught two passes en route to three total touchdowns on the evening. Mason Everts has eight total touchdowns on the season, including four through the air among his 14 completions.

The Pioneers came off a 5-1 weekend in Wisconsin Dells. After going 4-0 on Saturday, the Pioneers lost in the semifinals to Wittenberg-Birnamwood, which went on to win the tournament. The Pioneers had two players named to the all-tournament team, Brynn Schartner and Aleah Volkmann. The Pioneers returned home to host Providence and earned a three-set sweep, 25-16, 25-6, 25-9.

The Wolves will host Packerland Conference rivals Gibraltar and Sevastopol in addition to Chesterton Academy, Crivitz, Denmark, Lena, NEWCHAA, Oconto, Oneida Nation, and Sevastopol for the meet.

Five of Algoma's six runners ran their season-best times on the campus of UW-Green Bay on Thursday as a part of the James Boyd Invitational Cross Country Meet hosted by De Pere.

Brayden Brumm was a lone wolf for the boys, taking 101st with a season-best 24:42. For the girls, Ellie Reif ran the best time of her high school cross country career with a 23:27 that was good for a top 50 finish.
