The Algoma soccer team will try to add to the win column again on Tuesday after dropping its Monday contest to Providence Academy 4-1.

The loss snapped a four-match winning streak that started after they lost to Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah 8-3 on August 25th.

Next up on the Wolves' schedule is Denmark, which is 3-2 on the season and snapped a two-match losing streak with an 8-0 win over Wrightstown. Landin Thiem leads the Vikings with six goals.

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

The Algoma soccer team will stay around town on Monday to welcome Providence Academy to its pitch.

The Wolves are coming off a 4-3 win over NEW Lutheran last Thursday, while the Paladins are coming off the high of beating Sturgeon Bay 3-2 last Thursday, snapping the Clippers' 40-plus Packerland Conference match-winning streak.

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

The Algoma cross country tackled the darkened hills of the Winagamie Golf Course on Friday as part of the Nightfall Classic 920 in Neenah.

Brayden was a lone wolf for the boys, running a time of 22:07. Ellie Reif ran a time of 22:17 to pace the girls' team with a 29th-place finish.

In a battle of two ranked teams, the Algoma football team suffered their first loss of the season on Friday, falling to Valley Christian 31-14.

Trailing 14-6 after the first quarter, the Wolves allowed the Warriors to score 10 unanswered points to lead 24-6 at the break. The Wolves outscored the Warriors 8-7 in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Head coach Wade Vandervest said after the game that the team made too many mistakes to overcome a quality opponent. 

For the Wolves, Ethan Melotte was limited to just 12 yards through the air and had to work hard to gain 79 yards on 26 carries without a score. Jacob Blahnik rushed for 78 yards and a score, while Jack Meverden scored the other on 44 yards rushing. Brady Walker led the defense with 14 tackles and a sack.

For the Warriors, Mason Everts had 33 yards through the air and another 18 on the ground, giving the keys of the offense to Sam Gloudemans, who rushed for 148 yards on 26 carries and three touchdowns. Noah Ekholm added 83 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The Wolves are back in action on Friday when they host 3-1 NEW Lutheran at Perry Park at 7 p.m.

Valley Christian, 4-0, pulled away from Algoma, 3-1, on Friday night, handing the Wolves a 31-14 loss.
 

The Wolves got on the scoreboard first in the opening quarter, but Valley Christian answered with 14 points in the first and added 10 more in the second to take a 24-6 lead into halftime. Valley Christian continued to build its advantage in the third quarter, scoring seven more points to take a 31-14 lead.

Algoma fought to stay within striking distance, but the Wolves were unable to close the gap in the final quarter. Algoma's defense held Valley Christian scoreless in the fourth, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

The Wolves will look to bounce back next Friday when they host Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence at 7 p.m. at Perry Park.

The Algoma Wolves will face their stiffest test of the season thus far on Friday when they travel to Oshkosh to battle Valley Christian.

Ethan Melotte contributed to all six touchdowns in a 42-6 romp over Gibraltar on Thursday night for the Wolves. Melotte showed off his arm early with a 41-yard touchdown throw to Cooper Fay to make it 6-0 before he ran in for a score from five yards out on the next drive following a Vikings turnover to make it 12-0 in the first quarter. It was more of the same in the second quarter, but just from a little further out. Melotte connected with Fay on a third-and-long play for a 58-yard score following another forced fumble before cashing in on their final possession of the half on an eight-yard quarterback keeper. Melotte and the Wolves would extend the lead to 42-0 in the third quarter thanks to another pair of touchdown runs. Wolves head coach Wade Vandervest was happy with his team's effort and its ability to force the Vikings into some mistakes as they recovered three fumbles in the rout.

Similar to the Wolves, the Warriors have proven to be able to pile up the points, including a 59-0 win over Oneida Nation last week. Sam Gloudemans rushed for 145 yards on eight carries and caught two passes en route to three total touchdowns on the evening. Mason Everts has eight total touchdowns on the season, including four through the air among his 14 completions.

The Algoma Wolves volleyball team heads north on Tuesday to face Packerland Conference foe Sevastopol to kickoff the holiday-shortened week.

The Wolves opened its home slate on Thursday without capturing a set, losing to NEW Lutheran 3-0 (15-25, 15-25, 16-25). The Wolves were led by Lauren Loucks (5 Kills, 5 Blocks, 3 Digs), Bristol Schmidt (4 Kills, 1 Block), Sadie Rikkola (14 Digs, 14 Receptions, 2 Kills), and Eva Liu (9 Receptions, 3 Digs).

The Pioneers came off a 5-1 weekend in Wisconsin Dells. After going 4-0 on Saturday, the Pioneers lost in the semifinals to Wittenberg-Birnamwood, which went on to win the tournament. The Pioneers had two players named to the all-tournament team, Brynn Schartner and Aleah Volkmann. The Pioneers returned home to host Providence and earned a three-set sweep, 25-16, 25-6, 25-9.

The first serve is set for 7 p.m.

Peterson Park is the site for the annual Algoma Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday.

The Wolves will host Packerland Conference rivals Gibraltar and Sevastopol in addition to Chesterton Academy, Crivitz, Denmark, Lena, NEWCHAA, Oconto, Oneida Nation, and Sevastopol for the meet.

The first race is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

Five of Algoma's six runners ran their season-best times on the campus of UW-Green Bay on Thursday as a part of the James Boyd Invitational Cross Country Meet hosted by De Pere.

Brayden Brumm was a lone wolf for the boys, taking 101st with a season-best 24:42. For the girls, Ellie Reif ran the best time of her high school cross country career with a 23:27 that was good for a top 50 finish.
