The Algoma Wolves won a second straight rout on the road on Thursday, soundly beating Wausaukee 54-8 on Thursday.

The Wolves scored three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters, three of which came from at least 20 yards out. The two teams traded touchdowns in the final quarter with the game well in hand for the Wolves.

Ethan Melotte threw for six yards but ran for 130 yards and a score on just nine carries. Jacob Blahnik scored two touchdowns on three carries for 66 yards while Jack Meverden rushed for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Nolan Cochart scored once on 46 yards rushing. 

The Wolves will play a third straight Thursday night game against Gibraltar on September 3rd. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.

The Algoma girls cross country team put two runners in the Top 15 at Thursday's Chief K Invitational hosted by Gibraltar.

Ellie Reif and Claire Gerdmann each broke 24 minutes on the 5K course to secure 9th and 11th place respectively in the 40+ runner field

Another long road trip is in store for the Algoma Wolves football team on Thursday when they travel to Wausaukee to face the Rangers.

In their 44-6 win over Newman Catholic last week, the Wolves started fast with a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. All of the Cardinals' points came in the fourth quarter with a running clock and the end result all but confirmed. Ethan Melotte only completed two passes, but they both were for long touchdowns as he accumulated 110 yards through the air. Melotte also added a team-high 75 yards and a score on the ground while Jack Meverden (73 yards, two touchdowns) and Jack Schwader (62 yards, one touchdown) added to the rushing attack. Cooper Fay caught both passes for the Wolves. The Wolves defense pounced on opportunities as well with two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

The Rangers opened their season with a 62-0 loss to Wild Rose.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Algoma soccer team returns to their home pitch on Thursday when they welcome Peshtigo.

The two teams were tied at two at the break before the Tigers outscored the Wolves 6-1 in the second half to take the opening day victory.

The Wolves return to action on Thursday when they welcome Peshtigo for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Algoma Wolves will have a tough draw to start their season when they play in Wausau against Newman Catholic.

The Wolves graduated All-Conference selections Parker Lischka, Lane Cochart, and Joey Cabino, but welcome back fellow All-Conference honorees Kaden Bielawski and David Tebon into the fold. The Wolves went 6-2 last season with one of those wins coming against state semi-finalist Oakfield.

The Cardinals had a down year by their standards last season, going 5-4 including a 65-0 loss to Frederic in the opening round of the playoffs.
