Algoma track boasts strong performances at Oconto Falls, Oshkosh

The Algoma Wolves track teams look to be anchored by their field events once again this season.

 

Carter Dachelet threw a personal best distance in his 1st place performance in Monday's meet at Oconto Falls. Emily Kirchman won both the Oconto Falls and the UW-Oshkosh meets on consecutive days. Kirchman won the UWO meet thanks to a new personal best of 35-10. Morgan Mattson medaled in three events, but her best finish was third in the triple jump. Wolves Track Round-Up: Girls start strong

The Algoma Track teams got to business last week with a pair of meets in Algoma and Ripon.

 

For the boys in Oshkosh, Austin Miller's 60 meet dash was the only one to record a time.

Both teams competed in Ripon the following day. Dane Preston posted the best result for the boys with a jump of 5"04 for a seventh place finish. Emily Kirchman took third in the shot put and Morgan Mattson took third in the triple jump to pace the Wolves girls.

Wolves fall to Shiocton in regionals

The Algoma Wolves boys battled but came up short against the Shiocton Chiefs 68-55 in Shiocton Tuesday night in Division 4 regional quarterfinal action.  The Chiefs doubled up the Wolves in the first half 32-16 and cruised to the victory.  Algoma was led by Kaden Vardon with 22 points and Carter Zimmerman added 15 more in the loss.  Shiocton was led by Dawson Schmidt who tallied 27 points.  Shiocton will now advance to the regional semi-final on Friday night against Coleman.  

Algoma boys face Shiocton on the road

The Algoma Wolves look to extend their season by a few days Tuesday when they travel to face Shiocton in the opening round of the WIAA Division 4 playoffs.

 

The Wolves ended their regular season splitting their last six games. Led by Carter Zimmerman and his 21.3 points and 11.1 rebounds per game, the Wolves toppled Gresham 76-51 before falling to Gibraltar 76-41 in the regular-season finale.

 

Shiocton finished their season 8-16 overall with a 4-8 conference mark. Behind the prowess of Dawson Schmidt (26.5 ppg, 8.8 RPG, 3.8 apg), Shiocton has lost seven straight games including a 78-64 loss to Wittenberg-Birnamwood in their regular season finale.

 

Tip is set for 7 p.m.
