Algoma football secures Week 4 opponent

There is no longer a hole in Algoma's football schedule after announcing a new matchup over the weekend.

The Wolves will now play Oakfield on Friday, though specifics still need to be ironed out.

The Wolves are 2-1 after beating Gibraltar 36-6 last Friday. They had their game against Prairie Farm cancelled. The Oaks have a similar story to tell after they won their third straight game to start the year against Wayland Academy 58-14. Their game against Kickapoo/La Farge was also cancelled.

Wolves football mauls Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

The Algoma Wolves scored on five consecutive drives to bounce back from a shutout loss to beat the Gibraltar Vikings at home 36-6 on Friday night.

Following an interception by the Wolves' Cayden Neuzil, the two teams traded punts in the first quarter before Algoma finally cracked Gibraltar's defense. Joey Cabino scored the first two Algoma touchdowns, the first from inside the five-yard line and the second from a goal-to-go situation from the 20-yard line on a pass from Lane Cochart.

The Wolves would add to their lead in the final minute of the fourth quarter when Parker Lischka found a space on the edge to score from inside the five-yard line, making it 22-0 at the break.

Following halftime, the Wolves' offense did not cool off, starting with a 40-yard touchdown run by Lischka. A 15-yard pass from Cochart to Aiden Moen pushed the game into a running clock for the Wolves after the wide receiver found himself alone in the endzone. The Vikings were able to salvage some points at the end of the game when Giovanni Mercier pushed his into the endzone for the team's lone score.

The Wolves' future is uncertain after its game against Prairie Farm was canceled. Head coach Wade Vandervest said on the postgame show that he was looking for an opponent to fill the gap, but it could be an off week.

The Vikings will return home after a two-game road trip to face Oneida Nation/NEW Lutheran for the final time as a joint team before the two schools split for the 2026 season. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.
