Wolves fall to Florence in football opener

The Algoma football team shook off the rust in its first game in two years Friday, losing to Florence 14-6.

Florence did all of its scoring in the first half, finding the endzone on a pair of running plays. The Wolves finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a one-yard touchdown carry by Carter Zimmerman. He finished the day with 77 yards rushing and 85 yards passing. Three players had double-digit tackles on the night, including 15 from Kaden Vardon.

The Wolves lost their only All-Packerland player Hannah Wiese to graduation last season.

Daul leads Wolves in Chief K Invite

The Algoma Wolves girls' cross country team opened their season on Thursday at the Chief Kahquados Invitational.

The Wolves did not field a boys squad, so the five-member girls' team had to figure out the course on their own without feedback from the previous race. Savanna Daul ran a 27:30 5K time, which was good enough to lead the Wolves and take 68th overall. The Wolves finished in 11th place with a team score of 260.
