Algoma needs another road win to keep advancing

A 10-point halftime lead evaporated for Algoma as the Cougars came storming back late, hitting a pair of 3-pointers in the final two minutes to bring the Division 4 regional game within a possession.

Algoma led 18-8 at halftime in a first half that didn’t see either team’s offense excel. Under nine minutes into the second half, Algoma extended its lead to 15 after a quick 5-0 run.

A six-point swing at the three-minute mark made things interesting, but the Cougars wouldn’t get any closer.

The Wolves were able to break the press, and Aliza Jensen drew a foul from the Cougars’ defense with 18 seconds on the clock. She drained both free throws, and Algoma closed out the 45-39 win over No. 4 seed Coleman.

Freshman Reagan Schneider totaled a career-high 19 points in the win, netting five 3-pointers to help the Wolves move on. Claire Gerdmann added eight points, and Ella Severinsen chipped in six.

After a win by Manitowoc Lutheran, Algoma will face the top-seeded Lancers on the road, once again needing a win to stay alive. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.

Wolves boys douse Blazers in regular season finale

It was the defense that shined the brightest in Algoma's 69-42 victory over NEW Lutheran on Thursday night in their final tune-up before the start of the WIAA Tournament.

The Wolves limited the Blazers to just 17 points in the first half, including just three points by the team's leading scorer Hayden Schultz. Meanwhile, Parker Lischka outscored the Blazers by himself with 20 first-half points thanks in part to four three-pointers. Aidan Moen and Griffen Robinson also hit three-pointers to help the Wolves build a 41-17 lead at the break.

Brett Gajeski did his best to reel in the Wolves for the Blazers as he scored 16 of his team-high 20 points in the second half. Lischka and Braeden Leist combined to score 18 points in the second half to thwart any comeback attempt by the Blazers.

The Wolves were led by Lischka's 32 points while Robinson, Leist, Moen, and Aidan Zeitler all scored at least six points to ensure the team's Senior Night would not be spoiled.

The Wolves are back in action on Tuesday when they host Packerland rival Southern Door in the opening round of the WIAA Tournament. Jacob Nate will have the call on U-102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.

Wolves boys routs Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

Good defense led to great offense for the Algoma boys basketball team on Friday night as they beat the visiting Gibraltar Vikings 80-32 on their home court.

The Wolves wasted no time getting on top as they opened the game on a 7-0 run engineered mostly by Parker Lischka. The Vikings were able to climb back into the game behind three-pointers from Aaron Brey and Marco Jauregui to get the game back to within three points midway through the half.

The Wolves would answer two long scoring runs with Braeden Leist and Aidan Zeitler taking lead roles as they extended the lead out to 42-22 at the break.

As Wolves head coach Eric Schneider wanted to see heading into the game, the defense paved the way in the second half as they produced several fast break opportunities off of fast breaks and allowed just 10 points to the Vikings after the break. The Wolves were able to spread the scoring around as well in the second half with eight different players scoring at least a point in the period.

Leist ended the game with a game-high 24 points for the Wolves with Lischka adding 19 points and Zeitler chipping in with eight points. Jauregui led the Vikings with 11 points while Brey contributed nine points and Jackson collected six points.

The Vikings return to work on Tuesday with a road game at Goodman/Pembine for a 6 p.m. start

The Wolves kick off their week with their rival Kewaunee on the road for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Eric Fischer will have a call of that game on 104.1 WRLU beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.

Packerland girls basketball crown comes down to Algoma, Kewaunee

The chase for Packerland Conference supremacy comes down to a pair of Kewaunee County rivals when Algoma welcomes Kewaunee Monday night.

The Wolves are a half-game behind the Storm in the Packerland standings with a loss against Kewaunee their lone blemish on the season. They are 4-1 over their last five games, including a dominating 66-17 win over Gibraltar on Friday that saw Jadyn Nellis (19 points), Reagan Schneider (12 points), and Lauren Loucks (15 points) all reach double figures.

The Storm are also 4-1 in their last five with a 51-47 defeat to Seymour the lone misstep. Their four wins all came against Packerland Conference opponents and all were by no less than 39 points.

In their previous matchup, Jade Kroll scored a game-high 21 points and Braelyn Chevalier posted 15 points in a 54-41 win over the Wolves. Nellis scored 11 points while Claire Gerdmann and Sadie Rikkola each added 10 points in the loss.

Algoma routs N.E.W. Lutheran

There was no love lost between Algoma and N.E.W. Saturday in a matchup that resulted in the Wolves' 4th straight win and secured their 15th win on the season.

Algoma came out powerful with a strong offense led by Parker Lischka and used that to gain separation throughout for another game at an over 25 point differential.

The final, 76-50, showed the strong offensive ability from the Wolves and how balanced their attack can be when paired with a grueling defense.

They take advantage of a lull in the Blazers season in which they have lost six straight games after a strong start.

Algoma (15-5) will host Oneida Nation Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Wolves looking to stay on track against N.E.W. Lutheran

Algoma is currently sitting in a good position with a 14-5 overall record as they head into Saturday's matchup against N.E.W. Lutheran (9-9) in Green Bay. The Blazers' boys have lost 5 straight, including a pair of close games after starting off the season 9-4.

A win would be crucial for the Wolves as Algoma tries to build back their confidence after a minor hiccup against Peshtigo to end January. The Wolves will lean on Parker Lischka and Breadan Leis, who combine for nearly 40 points per game and 50% shooting. They are one of the toughest duos to shut down in the Packerland Conference.

N.E.W. has relied on Hayden Schultz, the Junior compiles 19.9 points on 31.2% from deep.

The matchup tips off in Green Bay at 2 p.m.

Algoma silences Gibraltar on the road

The Wolves entered Friday night's matchup needing a big win to build confidence heading into postseason play and they got it against Gibraltar on the road.

There wasn't much room for offense from the Vikings as they were held under 20 points total by the Wolves and scored only 5 points in the second half after Algoma got even better coming out of the  break.

Great defense led to an explosive offense, by taking chances at shots Algoma may not have always gone for.

The Wolves were led by Jadyn Nellis with 19 points, thanks in part to knocking down five three pointers. However, Nellis wasn't alone, three Wolves eclipsed double-digit scoring as they won handily 66-17.

Algoma responded after the loss to Kohler and will see the court again Feb 16 for a huge Packerland conference matchup against Kewaunee that tips off at 7 p.m. on the Wolves' home court. Gibraltar will tip off their last game of the season against Kewaunee three days later, Feb 19 on the road at 7 p.m.

Wolves Handle Clippers on U102.1

The Algoma Wolves had no trouble defeating the Clippers in Sturgeon Bay on Thursday night, earning a 63-48 victory.

Unlike the last time the teams met, the Wolves took control early, building a lead the Clippers could not overcome. The duo of Braeden Leist and Parker Lischka each scored in double figures in the first half to help break the game open. The Clippers struggled offensively in the first half, with Siggy Hansen the only player to make multiple baskets. That led to a 39-22 halftime advantage for Algoma.

The second half was more competitive, with Sturgeon Bay outscoring Algoma 26-24. However, both teams emptied their benches for a stretch, giving younger players valuable in-game experience as the 2026 playoffs loom just weeks away.

Leist led the Wolves with 25 points, followed by Lischka with 19. Hansen paced the Clippers with 15 points, while Sam Fruzyna added nine. Three other Clippers finished with seven points each.

The Wolves improved to 9-3 in the Packerland Conference and 14-5 overall. They will travel to Green Bay NEW Lutheran for a 2 p.m. game Saturday.

The Clippers fell to 4-8 in conference play and 9-10 overall. They will look to rebound Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on the road against Valders.

Wolves meet match in Blue Bombers

Algoma faced off against a Kohler team Tuesday night that had lost just two games this season since a rough opening game. However, Algoma has had a lot of success this season as well, losing just six games.

The Wolves struggled to hold Kohler on the defensive side of the ball allowing a season-high in points in a 77-52 loss.

Algoma made the shots when they had opportunities, but struggled in transition defense making space for the Blue Bombers to pull away.

The tough loss, is just the seventh on the season, but the Wolves will try to rebound quickly as they finish up conference play in the next week taking on Gibraltar Friday and Kewaunee Feb 16. Both will start at 7 p.m.

The Eagles were able to reel in the Wolves in the second half thanks to the hot shooting of Eli Jadin, who hit seven 3-pointers in the frame to finish with a game-high 21 points.

The Wolves were led by Lischka’s 19 points, along with 13 each from Leist and Seiler. In addition to Mueller’s 21, the Eagles received seven points apiece from Raymond Paye and Lauden Berg.

Algoma turned a two-point halftime lead into a 15-point victory. Lischka relied on his short game and free throws, going 9-for-11 at the line and knocking down 11 field goals for a game-high 31 points.

Lischka relied on the short game and free throws, going 9-11 at the line and putting 11 field goals through for a game high 31.

Sevastopol was trailing by just two at the break, but was then outscored 37-24 in the second creating more distance that they couldn't recover from. Bo Tanck and Reid Kacmarynski combined for 28, but it wasn't enough to keep it close.
