Wolves boys routs Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

Good defense led to great offense for the Algoma boys basketball team on Friday night as they beat the visiting Gibraltar Vikings 80-32 on their home court.

The Wolves wasted no time getting on top as they opened the game on a 7-0 run engineered mostly by Parker Lischka. The Vikings were able to climb back into the game behind three-pointers from Aaron Brey and Marco Jauregui to get the game back to within three points midway through the half.

The Wolves would answer two long scoring runs with Braeden Leist and Aidan Zeitler taking lead roles as they extended the lead out to 42-22 at the break.

As Wolves head coach Eric Schneider wanted to see heading into the game, the defense paved the way in the second half as they produced several fast break opportunities off of fast breaks and allowed just 10 points to the Vikings after the break. The Wolves were able to spread the scoring around as well in the second half with eight different players scoring at least a point in the period.

Leist ended the game with a game-high 24 points for the Wolves with Lischka adding 19 points and Zeitler chipping in with eight points. Jauregui led the Vikings with 11 points while Brey contributed nine points and Jackson collected six points.

The Vikings return to work on Tuesday with a road game at Goodman/Pembine for a 6 p.m. start

The Wolves kick off their week with their rival Kewaunee on the road for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Eric Fischer will have a call of that game on 104.1 WRLU beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.
