It was the defense that shined the brightest in Algoma's 69-42 victory over NEW Lutheran on Thursday night in their final tune-up before the start of the WIAA Tournament.
The Wolves limited the Blazers to just 17 points in the first half, including just three points by the team's leading scorer Hayden Schultz. Meanwhile, Parker Lischka outscored the Blazers by himself with 20 first-half points thanks in part to four three-pointers. Aidan Moen and Griffen Robinson also hit three-pointers to help the Wolves build a 41-17 lead at the break.
Brett Gajeski did his best to reel in the Wolves for the Blazers as he scored 16 of his team-high 20 points in the second half. Lischka and Braeden Leist combined to score 18 points in the second half to thwart any comeback attempt by the Blazers.
The Wolves were led by Lischka's 32 points while Robinson, Leist, Moen, and Aidan Zeitler all scored at least six points to ensure the team's Senior Night would not be spoiled.
The Wolves are back in action on Tuesday when they host Packerland rival Southern Door in the opening round of the WIAA Tournament. Jacob Nate will have the call on U-102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.
