Softball: Wolves, Eagles each get victory

When the Algoma Wolves and Southern Door Eagles took the field against each other on Thursday looking for their first win, each team got to leave with that accomplishment. While neither team got the sweep, Southern Door took game one 11-4. Algoma would answer back to secure their first win of the season, 9-7. Both teams are 1-2 this season. Southern Door will play host to Gibraltar on Tuesday. Algoma will also play Gibraltar in their next game, but that will be sooner as they play the Vikings in a road matchup on Friday, starting at 4:30 PM.

Algoma track begins season at home

The long wait is over for Algoma track and field as they prepare to host their first meet in more than 12 months on Tuesday.

The Wolves will host approximately half of the Packerland Conference on Tuesday with Gibraltar, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran High School, Oconto, and Sevastopol competing. The other half of the conference is heading a little further south to compete at Kewaunee.

The first events begin at 4:30 p.m.

Late season run halted in championship

Algoma’s improbable run would also fall short in the championship match. To begin sectionals, they beat Gresham Community in four sets. They took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19 before Gresham got on the board with a 25-21 victory to stay alive. It would be all Algoma in set four as they rolled for a 25-6 win.

In the title, Algoma would fall to Washburn 25-11, 25-15, and 25-6. Algoma would go from a struggling regular season to a mighty postseason run. The Wolves are recognized as sectional runner-ups.

Volleyball: Algoma looks to continue run

After being the surprise team of their region, going from a winless regular season to a regional championship, the Algoma Wolves will get a crack at Gresham Community on Tuesday. After wins over Kewaunee and Oneida Nation to secure a sectional bid, the Wolves are 2-7 on the season and the three seed in their sectional bracket. Gresham Community comes into the tournament with a 9-2 record. Their common opponent is Sevastopol, who has beat both in three sets. The game is set to begin at 4:00 PM. in Elcho.
