Wolves softball sweeps away Storm

The Algoma Wolves softball team swept their Kewaunee County rivals in a pair of matchups on Saturday, beating Kewaunee 5-0 and 13-3.

In game one, Macie Zimmerman struck out 12 batters and allowed just three hits in the win. Four Storm errors provided the Wolves' offense a spark as they registered five hits. Brooke Mattson went 2-3 with two RBI. For the Storm, Jenna Rohr suffered the loss, giving up all five runs (2 ER) on five hits across seven innings. Rohr also collected one of Kewaunee's three hits.

The bats came out for game two as the Wolves scored nine of their 13 runs in the first two innings as they ended the game by mercy rule after five frames. Nora Krause and Natalie Ray each drove in three runs while Hannah Nell and Macie Zimmerman each had two RBI games. Four Wolves players had multi-hit games. Rohr, Breanna Riha, and Lexi Hanrahan provided the offense for the Storm with RBI. Nell earned the win game two as he struck out five and allowed three runs across five innings.

Algoma baseball sweeps Kewaunee in offensive oddity

It was a tale of two games for the Algoma and Kewaunee baseball teams on Saturday with the Wolves taking both games by 20-19 and 2-1 margins.

In game one, Jack Cole ended the frenzy when he drove in Braden Leist in the bottom of the eighth inning. The two teams combined for 14 runs in the seventh inning to force the extra frame, including six by the host Wolves. Chase Romdenne led the assault going 3-5 with five RBI and a home run. Parker Lischka and Grant Vandervest had three RBI while three others had at least two RBI. The Storm piled up their own impressive statlines in the game with the top of their order all having multi-RBI games. Brady Pribek had five RBI and Waylon Delain had four RBI as they combined for four hits. Ethan Paplham had three RBI and two others drove in a pair.

The bats were tired from game one that Grant Vandervest's single in eighth proved to be the difference. Carson Leist drove in the only other run for the Wolves. Leist also had the lone multi-hit game for the Wolves. Ethan Paplham had two hits in the loss for the Storm as Kewaunee scored their only run on an error in the third inning.

Wolves make quick work of Vikings in doubleheader sweep

The Algoma Wolves allowed just one hit across two games as they beat the visiting Gibraltar Vikings 12-0 and 24-0.

Game one went six innings as the Wolves put up crooked numbers in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings to put the Vikings away early. Macie Zimmerman struck out 16 of the 18 Vikings she faced in her no-hit bid. She was also 3-3 with two RBI. Nora Krause led the way offensively as she drove in four runs with two hits. One of those hits was the result of an inside-the-park homer. Anna Dalke took the loss, allowing 12 runs (8 ER) on eight hits while striking out two.

Wolves softball sweeps Bulldogs

The Algoma Wolves made the most of their trip to Peshtigo on Thursday, beating the Bulldogs 6-0 and 9-4.

In their 6-0 win, Macie Zimmerman starred from the circle. She went the full seven innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 13 Bulldogs. She also contributed offensively, going 1-3 with a first-inning RBI single. Ryley Zimmerman and Sierra Slaby each had two hits, while Nora Krause and Megan Zimmer joined Macie in the RBI department.

During their 9-4 victory, the Bulldogs opened the scoring, but the Wolves came back with four runs in the second inning thanks to RBI hits by Brooke Mattson, Ryley Zimmerman, and Macie Zimmerman. The two teams would trade blows in the third and fourth innings before the Wolves added some insurance runs in the fifth inning. Ryley and Macie combined for five hits and seven RBI across their eight at-bats. Natalie Ray also drove in a run in the victory. Hannah Nell won from the circle, allowing four runs ( 3 ER) and seven hits across seven innings while striking out eight.

The Wolves are back in action on Friday against winless Gibraltar. They have allowed double-digit run totals in all five of their losses but got to Pioneer pitching in their last game thanks to a 3-for-3, two RBI day from Pam Prescott, and a multi-RBI day from Kylie Kwaterski. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

Wolves baseball edged by St. Mary's Catholic

The Zephyrs scored one in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the 7th to edge out a win against the Wolves. Braeden Leist got his second start of his high school career and was very efficient. He gave up one run on scattering four hits while the defense behind him was very solid. Wolves softball rally past Wolverines

The Algoma Wolves scored six times in the fourth inning to beat Crivitz 10-7 on the road.

The Wolverines responded to an early Wolves run with four in the bottom of the first, thanks to a grand slam by T Tracy. They would extend the lead to 6-1 with single tallies in the second and third innings before the Wolves made their run to take the lead. The Wolves scored three times on bases-loaded walks before Nora Krause slapped a single to right field to drive in two runs.

The Wolverines tied the game at seven in the bottom half of the inning, but the Wolves were gifted three runs (passed ball, RBI ground out, bases loaded walk) in the top of the seventh to come home with the win.

Algoma hosts first outdoor track meet of the year

The Algoma track team will stay put as the rest of the Packerland Conference go their separate ways on Tuesday for their first outdoor meets of the year.

The Wolves will host Kewaunee, Southern Door, and Sturgeon Bay, while Gibraltar and Sevastopol will join NEW Lutheran and Oconto for a trip to Peshtigo.

Both meets will begin at 4:30 p.m.
