A lopsided 6-1 loss for the Algoma Wolves (0-1-1) came Tuesday evening to the Freedom Irish (2-1) following the first day of classes for many area schools after the Labor Day holiday.
For the Irish, junior Cal Calhoon led the way with a hat-trick, putting away three goals himself, as well as one a piece for seniors Andres Chavez, Sawyer Rueckl, and freshman Tristan Brennenstuhl.
It's a tough way to open the school year for Algoma, but they look to bounce back in their first conference match at Peshtigo (1-1) Thursday with a 4:30 pm start.
