Great defense led to good offense for the Algoma Wolves in the second half of its 52-37 win over Gibraltar in Fish Creek on Friday.
Both teams struggled to get their offense going, but a 7-0 run to start the game and a 5-0 run near the end of the half helped the Wolves build a 21-12 lead. Seven different Wolves players scored at least two points in the frame, led by Parker Lischka's seven points. Wyatt Bultman's prescence in the paint helped the Vikings keep the game close in the first half as he scored six points and had a couple blocks to turn away the Wolves' attack.
The Wolves' defense turned it up a notch in the second half, generating several fast break and set the stage for several easy plays at the hoop including Lischka's second dunk of the game. Unable to go inside, the Vikings had to rely on Aaron Brey's hot shooting as he hit four three-pointers in the second half.
Lischka led all scorers with 22 points to pace the Wolves while Charlie Prokash and Lane Cochart added nine points apiece and Aidan Zeitler chipped in four points.
Brey scored all 15 of his points in the second half to lead the Vikings while Bultman registered 10 points and Kayin Jackson contributed eight points.
Both teams will play their next game against Kewaunee with Algoma hosting the Storm on Tuesday with Packerland supremacy on the line while Gibraltar will make the trip south on Friday. Tim Kowols will have the call for Friday's game on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first tip at 7 p.m.
