Storm sweeps Clippers, claim share of Packerland title

The Kewaunee Storm claimed a share of the Packerland Conference Friday night by shutting out the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 10-0 and 4-0 in doubleheader action at Memorial Field on 104.1 WRLU.

Brett Paulsen pitched a six-inning complete game, two-hit shutout for the Storm in the game one win.  Kewaunee took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single by Collin Spranger and then the offense exploded with seven runs in the fifth inning to put the game away.

Brody Kollath took the loss for the Clippers going 4.1 innings and giving up five earned runs.

The Storm won the game in the sixth, finishing with a suicide squeeze bunt by Paulsen to make it 10-0.

In the nightcap, the Storm jumped on starter Bryce Plzak with four runs and four hits in the first inning and that was all the scoring Kewaunee would need.  Brady Pribek pitched a masterpiece by going the distance striking out seven and allowing only one hit while setting down the first 15 Clippers he faced.

Kewaunee (11-3, 15-4 overall) will now play Valders at home on Monday in non-conference action before Gibraltar comes after their game to finish the 4-4 suspended game that was halted after the eighth inning two weeks ago.  If the Storm wins, they will win the Packerland Conference outright.

Storm host Clippers in doubleheader on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm will host the Sturgeon Bay Clippers on Saturday in a key Packerland Conference baseball doubleheader at Memorial Field in Kewaunee.

The Storm (10-3, 14-4 overall) are coming off a 10-0 and 15-1 thumping of NEW Lutheran/Providence on Monday in doubleheader action, while Sturgeon Bay (9-5, 13-10 overall) swept away Sevastopol 10-8 and 13-0.

Kewaunee can clinch at least a share of the Packerland Conference with the Algoma Wolves (12-4) if they sweep Sturgeon Bay with a suspended game with Gibraltar still possibly looming.

Pregame for the first game will begin at 4:45 p.m. Friday with the first pitch set for 5 p.m. on 104.1 WRLU.  The second game will start about 15 minutes after the opener with both games on-air and streamed on New Radio Sports Network.  Paul Schmitt and Henry Annen will have the call from the Memorial Field in Kewaunee.

You can listen to the interview with Kewaunee Coach Dan Spranger on the podcast page here.

Kewaunee storms past NEW Lutheran on baseball diamond

The Kewaunee Storm baseball team limited NEW Lutheran to just one hit on the afternoon across two games on Monday, beating them 10-0 and 15-1.

In game one, Brett Paulsen kept the Blazers in check, allowing no hits across six innings of work while striking out 11. The game was bookended by big rallies for the Storm, as they scored four runs in the first inning and ended the game an inning early with six runs in the sixth. Brady Pribek led the way, going 1-4 but clearing the bases with a three-RBI double. Paulsen helped his own cause with two RBI, matching teammate Toby Kunkel, who had two RBI and went 3-4.

In game two, the two teams traded runs in the first inning despite the Blazers not registering a hit. Eric Kim would break through for the Blazers in the third inning with a single for the team's only hit. The Storm was already leading 5-0 when they scored 10 runs in the fourth inning, leading to the game's conclusion after five innings of play. The Storm took advantage of six errors and nine walks to score their runs. Ethan Paplam was the only Storm player with multiple hits. Waylon Delain drove in three runs while Pribek and Kunkel each drove in two.

The Kewaunee Storm softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday, falling 10-0 to Oconto Falls and 4-2 to Denmark.

In their matchup against the Panthers, the Storm kept it close until they gave up at least two runs in three straight innings including four in the fourth. Four players accounted for the teams five hits, including two from Maddy Reckelberg.

In game two, the Storm gave up three runs in the first inning and chased the Vikings the rest of the way. They would score two runs in the seventh inning thanks to a two run single from Breanna Riha, but they would get no closer. Braelyn Chevalier and Cora Schlies each collected two hits and four others registered at least one. Ali Repitz took the loss, giving four runs (4 ER) despite allowing 10 hits in the process.

Ethan Paplham and Waylon Delain each had two hits, but Conor Kilgore's bases-clearing double in the fourth inning offered the game's biggest blow. Micah Vanness drove in two runs while Delain, Brett Paulsen, and Brady Pribek registered one RBI.

Ayden Smidle collected the win for the Storm, allowing four runs (2 ER) while scattering six hits and striking out four across six innings.

Kewaunee softball sinks Vikings twice

The Kewaunee softball team did not need a full seven innings in either end of their doubleheader against Gibraltar, winning the games 15-0 and 20-1.

A nine-run second inning set the tone for the Storm in game one. Four players got multiple hits, and Breanna Riha drove in four runs. Pam Prescott, Courtney Foy, and Megan Gallant each collected one hit for the Vikings.

In game two, it was a 10-run second inning that set the tone for the Storm. Riha had another three RBI while Jenna Rohr drove in five runs. All nine players for the Storm drove in at least one run against the Vikings. Ashlyn DeJardin drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game for the Vikings in the first inning and provided the team's only run. Emma Daubner registered the team's only hit in game two.

Storm tops Vikings 4-3, ties 3-3 in second game

The Kewaunee Storm and the Gibraltar Vikings battled in a tightly contested doubleheader Friday that saw the Storm earn a walk-off 4-3 win in the opener and a 3-3 tie in extra innings.

In the first game, Gibraltar jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Cameron Munao RBI single.  Kewaunee rallied in the third inning with three straight hits capped by a two-run home run by Brady Pribek to left field.

Gibraltar rallied to score two runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Aaron Brey and Munao.

The score stayed that way until the Storm walked off with the win with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning when Peyton Schuller beat the throw and scored on a fielder's choice grounder by Collin Spranger.

Waylon Delain picked up the win in the opener for the Storm going 3.1 innings and allowing only one hit and a walk while striking out three.  He also went 4 x 4 at the plate to lead the Storm offense.

Brett Isaacson-Krueger took the tough loss allowing the one run after replacing Aaron Brey in the seventh inning.

Munao and Brey finished with three hits to lead the Viking's attack.

The nightcap saw the Storm take an early 2-0 lead and Gibraltar came up with a key two-run single by Liam Lindenberg to tie the game in the fourth inning.  The Storm recaptured the lead 3-2 in the sixth inning only to see the Vikings’ Aaron Brey tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out, two-strike double to right center field, scoring Brady Kita from second base.

Both teams went scoreless in the eighth inning and the umpires and coaches decided to suspend the tied game with a possible rescheduling to complete it if the game would factor into the conference championship at the end of the season.

Connor Kilgore and Toby Kunkel led the Storm with two hits each and Manao and Marshall Maltby had two hits apiece for the Vikings in game two.

Brady Pribek and Jackson Walecka pitched four innings each in game two and allowed only four hits each and two walks a piece for the Storm.

Isaacson-Krueger went five innings not allowing any earned runs and Kita pitched the final three innings allowing just one run.

Storm battles Vikings in doubleheader on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm will host the Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings on Friday afternoon in a Packerland Conference baseball doubleheader.

The Storm (4-3, 7-4 overall) are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Southern Door on Tuesday with a 6-4 win in extra innings and a 6-0 shutout in the nightcap.  Waylon Delain picked up the win in relief of Brett Paulsen in game one, and Brady Pribek and Jackson Walecka combined for a shutout in the nightcap.

The Vikings (7-3, 11-5 overall) split a doubleheader with the Sturgeon Bay Clippers on Tuesday at home, winning 3-1 in the opener behind great pitching by Aaron Bley.  Gibraltar/Washington Island fell short in the second game 9-6.

The first pitch of the opener from Kewaunee High School is set for 4:00 p.m., with the pregame starting at 3:45 p.m. on 104.1 WRLU.  Paul Schmitt and Henry Annen will have the call for the doubleheader, which will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.
