Southern Door sophomore Malaina Veeser capped off her cross country season with a top-25 finish at the WIAA Division 3 State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Veeser finished 24th overall in the girls 5,000-meter race, placing among the top runners in Division 3.

The state appearance came just one week after Veeser finished fourth at the Division 3 sectional meet at Sheboygan Lutheran, where she recorded a time of 20 minutes, 4.2 seconds to qualify for state.

Southwestern sophomore Mackenzie Knuckey claimed the individual state championship with a time of 18:49.4, followed by Cochrane-Fountain City junior Paxtyn Duellman in second at 18:54.8 and Boyceville sophomore Jaycie Oberle in third at 18:56.9.

Southwestern also captured the Division 3 team state championship with 112 points.

Veeser’s 24th-place finish capped off a strong sophomore campaign and gave Southern Door a top-25 finisher on Wisconsin’s biggest high school cross country stage.
