Southern Door falls at home 39-7 on 104.1 WRLU

Category: Local Sports

The Southern Door offense could not keep up with the overpowering run game that came into Brussels on the Oconto Falls bus.  The Panthers took care of the Eagles 39-7, essentially ensuring that Southern Door will miss the 2026 playoffs.

The Eagles fell behind early after going 3-and-out, punting the ball away.  In just a few plays, Oconto Falls running back Croix Gardebrecht busted through the heart of Southern Door's defense on his way to a 59-yard score, the first of his 5 rushing touchdowns. On the Eagles' ensuing drive, they would turn the ball over via a Raymond Paye fumble on a mishandled pitch, but would be in turn saved by an interception by Axel Anderson, who picked Nathaniel White off by tipping it off his own hands, then helmet.

The teams would swap touchdowns in the second quarter, and with the Panthers leading 20-7, Southern Door would have the ball in the closing moments of the half.  QB Caleb Delwiche would take a shot to the midsection and be knocked out for the final play of the half.  Beau Schley came in and, with less than 10 seconds left, found his receiver, who, while trying to fight his way to the endzone, came up just short as time expired on the half.

The second half was all Oconto Falls, alongside Gardebrecht's 4th and 5th touchdowns, as second-team players for both sides scattered the field, JJ Pyleski added the final score of the game and the 39-7 final that sends the Eagles to a 2-4 conference record, and a 2-6 overall record heading in to the final week's matchup in Brussels on Friday October 16th with Bonduel.
