Eagles softball capture regional crown on U-102.1

The Southern Door softball team improved to 22-4 on the year and will host at least one more game this season after shutting out Brillion 6-0 in Thursday's regional final game in Brussels.

 

The Eagles opened the scoring in the second inning when Reece Vogel and and Aubrey Plzak registered back-to-back run-scoring hits to make 2-0. They put the game well out if reach two innings later when Samantha Melville doubled in Madyson Counard and the Vogels singled in three runs of their own to make it 6-0.

 

Alanah Kaye did not need that much help from her offense allowing just three hits across seven shutout innings while striking out 13 batters.

 

 

Reece Vogel and Grace Vogel each went 2-3 with Grace driving in two runs and Reece pushing across one. Kaye, Counard, Melville, and Plzak accounted for the other hits as they outhit their visitors 8-3 to win the regional championship.

 

 

The Eagles will be back at home on Tuesday when they welcome New Holstein in the sectional semi-final for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
