Southern Door needed a clutch hit to get it done on the softball field Tuesday, edging Winneconne 3-2 in a tight pitchers' duel.
Alanah Kaye was locked in from the start, going all seven innings and striking out nine while allowing just two runs. The Eagles grabbed an early lead and Samantha Melville's solo shot in the fourth made it 2-0, but Winneconne tied it up with a two-run homer from Grace Mitchell in the sixth.
That's when Audrey Plzak stepped up, singling home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to give Southern Door the lead for good. Six different Eagles recorded a hit on the day, with Plzak, Madyson Counard, and Melville each driving in a run.
The Eagles improved to 20-4 on the season and haven't lost since May 5 when they faced Oconto in a 6-5 loss.
