In their first action since claiming the Packerland Conference crown in softball, Southern Door makes the trip to Institute on Monday to face Southern Door.
Southern Door took care of business at home Friday, sweeping Algoma in a softball doubleheader 5-2 and 13-1. Alanah Kaye was untouchable in the circle in game one, striking out 15 over seven innings while allowing just two hits. She helped her own cause with a three-run homer to center on a full count in the fourth. Grace Gutschow led the offense with two hits as Southern Door held on for the 5-2 win. Game two wasn’t close from the jump. Southern Door erupted for seven runs in the fifth to put it away, with Madyson Counard going 3-for-4 with a double and Harper Kramer driving in three on two hits. Samantha Melville tossed five clean innings to earn the win.
Sevastopol had no trouble on a nice Saturday at PBI Field, rolling past Sturgeon Bay twice in softball by scores of 18-0 and 16-1. The Pioneers wasted no time in game one, putting up seven in the third and nine more in the fourth to blow it open. Olivia Valenzuela went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and stole two bases, Taylor Kochanski added three hits, and Adi Sawyer tripled home three during the fourth-inning surge. Sevastopol finished with 15 hits and seven stolen bases. Game two was more of the same. Sevastopol sent the lineup around in a 10-run third inning, highlighted by a Brynn Schartner grand slam to center. Schartner finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Kochanski added two more hits. The Pioneers drew 13 walks and tallied 11 hits.
First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
