Southern Door takes care of Algoma behind dominant pitching and big bats

Southern Door took care of business at home Friday, sweeping Algoma in a softball doubleheader 5-2 and 13-1.


Alanah Kaye was untouchable in the circle in game one, striking out 15 over seven innings while allowing just two hits. She helped her own cause with a three-run homer to center on a full count in the fourth. Grace Gutschow led the offense with two hits as Southern Door held on for the 5-2 win. Natalie Ray went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Algoma’s offense.


Game two wasn’t close from the jump. Southern Door erupted for seven runs in the fifth to put it away, with Madyson Counard going 3-for-4 with a double and Harper Kramer driving in three on two hits. Samantha Melville tossed five clean innings to earn the win. Algoma finished with three hits in the loss.


Southern Door hosts Sevastopol on Monday at 4:30 p.m. while Algoma heads to Luxemburg-Casco on Monday at 4:30.????????????????
