Eagles softball secures two wins in weekend set

The Southern Door softball team piled up a pair of wins on Saturday, beating Wrightstown 7-0 before beating Chilton 6-5.

In their 7-0 shutout of the Tigers, Alanah Kaye kept things in check with a no-hit performance that saw her strikeout 10 batters. The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added five more runs in the third inning to put the game well out of reach. Grace Gustschow led the way offensively with a pair of RBI while Madyson Counard, and Kaye also drove in runs.

In their 6-5 win over the other Tigers, the two teams traded leads until the eighth inning when Counard singled in MaKayla Bouche to put them ahead before Samantha Melville finished her eight-inning performance with an 1-2-3 inning. Lily Vandertie went 3-4 to lead the Eagles as one of three players with multi-hit performances. Counard, Melville, Gutschow, and Reese Vogel all recorded RBI in the win. Melville allowed five runs (4 ER) on 10 hits across her eight innings, striking out eight along the way.
