The Southern Door Eagles split a softball doubleheader with Oconto on Tuesday, winning game one 16-8 before dropping game two 6-5.
Alanah Kaye was the story of game one. She went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate, doubled, stole two bases, and struck out 10 in the circle while picking up the win. Samantha Melville drove in three and the Eagles pounded out 15 hits as a team to pull away.
Game two was a different kind of game. Southern Door actually out-hit Oconto 10 to nine but couldn't hold on, dropping a 6-5 decision when Oconto reached on an error in the seventh to walk it off. Madyson Counard went 3-for-4 to lead the offense and Melville tossed all seven innings, striking out seven. Braiya Wusterbarth hurt the Eagles with an inside the park home run in the fourth that flipped the lead.
Southern Door hosts Green Bay NEW Lutheran Friday with first pitch at 4:30 and game two at 6:30.
