The Southern Door softball team toppled Kewaunee in a pair of games on Thursday, sneaking past the Storm 5-4 in game one before an 11-0 rout in game two.
In the first game, a Madyson Counard two-run homer proved to be the difference as it broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was a part of 2-3 day for Counard, joining Alanah Kaye as members of the two-hit club in the game. Kaye secured the win from the circle for the Eagles, allowing four runs (1 ER) on five hits while striking out nine across seven innings. Ali Repitz took the loss for the Storm, allowing three runs (2 ER) on four hits. Vivian Bootz and Breanna Riha each had two hits while Kambreia Last had the lone RBI.
In game two, the Eagles put the game on ice right away with 10 runs on nine hits in the first inning. Hits from Lilly Vandertie and Samantha Melville were the frame's biggest blows as they each drove in a pair. The Eagles tallied one more run in the third inning before the game ended in the fifth. Vandertie, Melville, and Harper Kramer all had two hits in the game while Kaye, Counard, Vandertie, and Melville also registered two RBI. Melville silenced the Storm's bats, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out four across five innings. Riha suffered the loss for the storm, allowing 10 runs (4 ER) on nine hits in the opening inning. Last, Riha, and Braelyn Chevalier registered the lone hits for the Storm in the lopsided loss.
The Eagles will play at Luxemburg-Casco on Monday at 4:30 p.m. while the Storm return to action also on Monday at Seymour at 4:30 p.m.
