Southern Door made it a long Friday for Gibraltar, taking both ends of a doubleheader by almost identical 11-0 and 11-1 scores at Gibraltar Secondary School.
Alanah Kaye was the story of game one, throwing a perfect game with 12 strikeouts over five innings, including an immaculate inning in the fifth where she struck out the side on nine pitches. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, and Alanna Paye matched her with three hits of her own. Madyson Counard added a solo home run to center in the fifth. Southern Door finished with 10 hits and played errorless ball.
Gibraltar's Mia Glocke took the loss, allowing 11 runs, just two earned, on 10 hits over five innings.
Game two was more of the same. Southern Door erupted for six runs in the fifth to pull away, and Samantha Melville earned the win with five innings of work, eight strikeouts, and just one unearned run allowed.
Counard and MaKayla Bouche each went 2-for-2, and Paige Penovich and Grace Vogel each drove in two during the big fifth inning. The Eagles finished with 13 hits and swiped five bases.
For Gibraltar, Megan Gallant and Olivia Pelkey each collected a hit in game two, and Gallant drove in the Vikings' lone run.
Southern Door hosts Peshtigo Saturday in a doubleheader with first pitch at 11 a.m. Gibraltar is back in action Monday at 4 p.m. against Sevastopol.
