The Eagles could find the endzone late in the game, but it was not enough to take down the Marinette Marines 27-8 on U102.1, falling to 1-3 on the season.
The game started on a sour note for the Eagles. After deferring the kickoff, they would find themselves trailing before a single offensive or defensive snap. Marinette's return man, Braxton Polzin, would mishandle the kickoff at the twenty, but after chasing the loose ball down at the 1-yard line, take the ball 99 yards for a Marine touchdown. There would be a glimmer of hope for the Eagles, though, as on the very first, the Marines would lose their starting running back, Mason Hofherr, to an ejection.
The Marines added a trio of rushing touchdowns from QB Chase Macgregor in the first, second, and fourth quarters, from 60, 1, and 2 yards, respectively. However, it was not a clean game. Three times throughout the game, MacGregor put the ball on the ground, but the Southern Door defense could not recover the fumbles.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Eagles finally found themselves in the endzone after being shut out last week. Caleb Delwiche found Lauden Berg for a 13-yard touchdown and the ensuing 2-point conversion. They recovered the ensuing onside kick but ended the drive as time expired with Caleb Delwiche throwing a desperation play interception.
Tune in next week as the Eagles visit the Peshtigo Bulldogs. Join Jacob Nate for the pregame show starting at 6:45 PM on Friday, September 19th, with a kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.
