Eagles Find Offense in Win over Clippers on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles traveled to Sturgeon Bay Monday night and took advantage of Clipper mistakes to win 13-2 on U102.1.

For the first time in their recent losing streak, the Southern Door Eagles scored first.  Part of what helped that become the case was shifting Tyler Neinas into the leadoff slot. On the very first pitch of the game, he would line a single into centerfield.  He would then cross home plate just two batters later on a sac fly by Colin Everard.  The Clippers are no stranger to their leadoff hitter finding success, though, as in the bottom of the inning, Patrick Haese would single as well.  He would also be brought home by the 3-hole hitter, Caleb Plzak, who brought him home with a single of his own.

The teams would swap runs in the 3rd inning as both leadoff hitters crossed the plate again.  Things would take a turn in the 5th inning when the Eagles would send 10 batters to the plate, taking advantage of some misplays by a few Eagles, scoring six runs.  Patrick Haese would replace Ethan Kratcha for a successful 6th, but some troubling defense would spell doom for the Clippers in the 7th as they once again allowed the Eagles to bat around, including another five runs to cross the plate.

Drew Daoust would go the distance for the Eagles, allowing just two runs, while Ethan Kratcha would take the loss for the Clippers.

The Clippers take on Gibraltar/Washington Island on Thursday.  Southern Door returns to the field tomorrow at NEW Lutheran and again on Friday at St. Mary Catholic. Friday night's game can be heard again with Jacob Nate on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network, starting with a 6:45 pregame and a 7:00 first pitch.
