The Southern Door Eagles boys basketball team will have a quick turnaround against a familiar opponent on Saturday after they beat St. Mary Catholic 74-60 on Friday's regional semi-final.
It was a tale of two halves for Eagles star Drew Daoust. He knocked down three threes en route to an 18-point first half to help pace the Eagles to a 35-23 lead at the break. Daoust then turned his attention into a defensive state of mind, challenging Preston Fields for much of the second half. It allowed Caden Pierre to shine, scoring 22 of his team-high 26 points after the break. Daoust's night ended with 23 points, while Lauden Berg pitched in 15 points. Fields scored 22 points, and Mason Uhlenbrauck added 18 points in the loss for the Zephyrs.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday night to host Algoma in the regional final. The Wolves upset Iola-Scandinavia 71-58 behind 17 points from Braden Leist and 16 points courtesy of Parker Lischka. The Eagles beat the Wolves twice during the Packerland Conference schedule, toppling them in Algoma 63-52 on January 3rd and blowing them out in Brussels 85-46 on February 15th.
Bryan Mazur will have the call on 104.1 WRLU beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.
