Eagles break through late to top Huskies

The Southern Door Eagles scored 11 points in the final five minutes to make a one-possession game late into a 24-7 win over New Holstein.

The Eagles struck first when Drew Daoust scrambled for a 16-yard touchdown to make it 7-0. The Huskies matched it in the second quarter when Erick Burns scored the team's lone touchdown on the ground from 53 yards out to make it 7-7 at the break. Burns would go on to rush for 236 yards, but the Huskies would not find the scoreboard again.

Daoust used his feet again to put the Eagles up again late in the third quarter, rushing in from 10 yards out following a 44-yard punt return from Lauden Berg. The Eagles would pile it on in the fourth quarter thanks to Daoust's third rushing touchdown of the game, followed by a field goal from Lance Veeser.

The Eagles will go on the road to face last year's state runner-up, Wrightstown. The Tigers have already feasted on Packerland foe Sturgeon Bay on Friday night, winning the game 64-18. The winner of that game could face another Packerland opponent if Kewaunee get get past Kiel in a road matchup next week.
