Eagles baseball hosts St. Mary Catholic on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles baseball team caps off the week with a non-conference matchup on Saturday morning against St. Mary Catholic.

The Eagles have been streaky lately, winning six straight matchups after four consecutive victories were soured by a three-game skid.  Last Saturday, the Eagles took both games of a doubleheader against NEW Lutheran, winning 12-0 in Game 1 and 17-0 in Game 2.  Both games ended after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

In a Packerland Conference doubleheader played at West Jacksonport Friday afternoon, Southern Door took two games from Sevastopol. Game 1 saw Isaac Baudhuin dominate the game from the mound in a 2-hit complete game shutout for the Eagles. Baudhuin's gem saw him hit 1 batter, walk 1 batter, and strike out 13 Pioneer hitters. SD scored 1 in the 1st inning, and added a 2nd run in the 3rd inning. The Eagles took control with 5 runs on 4 hits in the 6th inning, which resulted in a 7-0 final score in game 1. Braylon Berg, Tyler Neinas, and Jerek Valley all contributed 2 hits to the winning effort, with Valley leading the way with 2 RBI.

Pitching again proved the difference in game 2, as Tyler Neinas and Nick Beck combined on a 3-hitter, with SD taking a 11-1 victory in a game stopped by the 10-run rule after 5 innings. The Eagles struck early with 4 runs in both the the 1st and 2nd innings to lead 8-0. The game settled in until 4 Sevastopol errors in the bottom of the 5th inning led to 2 runs and the final 10-run margin. Jerek Valley led the hitting with a 3-4 game, and Braylon Berg and Nick Beck added 2 hits apiece. Southern Door finishes Packerland Conference play with a 10-6 record.

The Zephyrs are 12-7 on the season, including 10-1 in the last 11 games. They responded to a 5-4 loss to Luxemburg-Casco on Wednesday with a 7-0 win on Thursday.

The first pitch, with Jacob Nate and Eric Fischer on the call, is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday. The pregame show on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com will begin at 9:45 a.m.
