Eagles softball sweeps Pioneers

Southern Door captured Door County softball supremacy on Friday with 7-2 and 6-5 wins on Friday over Sevastopol.

 

The Eagles put the pressure on early with two runs in the first inning only to have the Pioneers answer with one more in the bottom half of the frame. It was 3-1 heading into the seventh when the Eagles four times to put the game out of reach, thanks in part to a double by Ashlyn Delfosse that scored three runs by the time the dust settled. Delfosse went 2-4 with four RBI while Madyson Counard, Hailey Veeser, and Lexi Tassoul also drove in a run. For the Pioneers, Jolene Luedtke and Brynn Schartner each had two hits while Addison Schauske and Luedtke accounted for the RBI. Alannah Kaye earned the win for the Eagles from the circle, allowing two runs (1 ER) on nine hits while striking out eight.

 

In game two, the Eagles came back 5-1 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game before Bella Price scored the game winning run on passed ball in the bottom of the ninth. Ashlyn Delfosse drove in three runs with a home run while Price and Hailey Veeser also collected RBI. Price and Madyson Counard accounted for five of the 10 Eagles hits. For the Pioneers, Jolene Luedtke had another strong game with three hits and two RBI while Naomi Rikkola, Brynn Schartner, and Kayla Ranly knocked in runs. Schartner and Libby Ash had two hits for the Pioneers.
