Southern Door sweeps Sturgeon Bay on baseball diamond

On Thursday, Southern Door edged their Door County rivals twice on the road, winning 4-3 and 5-4.

In a great night of baseball, Southern Door nipped Sturgeon Bay by one run in both ends of a doubleheader. Game 1 saw SD jump on top 2-0 in the top of the 3rd inning, with a Tyler Neinas double being the big hit. A Sturgeon Bay throwing error in the 4th made the score 3-0, but the Eagles quickly returned the favor by handing the Clippers 3 runs on three errors in the bottom of the 5th. SD scored what proved to be the winning run when Drew Daoust led off the top of the 7th with a hit, eventually scoring on a Will Jandrin double. Daoust and Jerek Valley led Southern Door with two hits each, while Sturgeon Bay totaled two hits for the game. Tyler Neinas pitched the first five innings for the Eagles, yielding the 2 Clippers hits. He struck out 6, walked 0, and hit a batter, with all three runs given up being unearned. Will Jandrin earned the win with two perfect innings of relief while striking out 3
hitters.

Things got even wilder in game 2. As the home team, SD took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when Braylon Berg led off with a walk, stole 2B, and scored on a Tyler Neinas single. Once again, a leaky SD defense in the 5th inning resulted in a pair of unearned Sturgeon Bay runs and a 2-1 Clippers lead. The Eagles tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th on a wild pitch. A Southern Door defensive miscue in the top of the 7th inning directly led to 2 unearned runs, and Sturgeon Bay went to the bottom of the 7th with a 4-2 lead. After Berg flew to center, a Tyler Neinas single was followed by a Will Jandrin blast over the left field fence to tie the game 4-4. The rally continued when Isaac Baudhuin singled to right, with Baudhuin eventually scoring the winning run on a 2-out line shot walk-off single be Gaige Geisel. Jandrin pitched the first 6.1 innings for the Eagles. He was reached for five hits, striking out five and walking 0, with all 4 Clippers runs being unearned. Nick Beck won in relief, giving up 0 hits in his 2/3 innings of work.

Southern Door completed a 4-0 week and will resume Packerland Conference play next Tuesday when they host league-leading Kewaunee in a doubleheader. Game 1 is scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m.
